Happy Fox Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Shame. You are more than welcome to come back here in a coaching capacity.
ElusiveEd Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 He will probably want another managerial position but i'd love to think the door was open for him here in some way. But then again, would we risk disrupting what is obviously already working? You only hear good things about him and i wish him luck on his next move.

Something like the Steve McClaren situation went to QPR as a coach, but if a job opportunity comes up he can leave with best wishes, the man breeds class and is NP's pal.
Mack Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Would do him a World of good to come back and get on board with us in a coaching capacity until something else comes along. I am genuinely gutted for Powell, from what I heave read about the Charlton situation he cant solely be blamed for their poor return of points this season and in my opinion he deserved better from them.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Sad news, like the bloke. Last throw of the dice for a desperate club.
lancyclaret Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Bad move by Charlton - he got them to finish 9th last season. This season has been harder and he has been forced to sell two of their best players - Kermogant and Stephens. This new Belgian owner is just using them as a feeder club for Standard Liege.
indierich06 Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 The new board sold his best players from under him so he has to play academy players and Standard Liege rejects, they couldn't even maintain a half decent playing surface meaning loads of games were postponed and he's had zero support from this new bloke who couldn't seem to care less about the club. Feel really sorry for him, he deserved a lot better than this given the status he still has at the club. In my opinion, the bloke can hold his head high and be proud of what he achieved on a budget of next-to-nothing and with such a lack of backing. I've lived in Charlton for the past three years, and while I wouldn't say they're my second team or anything like that, I don't mind seeing them do well and when they were in League One, I used to go down for a few games when the tickets were on offer. Always liked Powell because of the Leicester connection too. Won't bother about them anymore. EDIT: having looked at the table, their position doesn't really reflect the fact that they've had some alright results lately, but when you're about three games behind everyone else, of course it's going to be hard. I'd love him back at City, but I can't see Powell wanting to take a step down and start coaching again now he's got the experience of managing. Would like to see him get a job at a decent sized League One club and build them up like Charlton - hopefully somewhere where he'll get a bit of support from the board. Not suggesting for a minute that their managers would be sacked, but I could see him at a Brentford, or Leyton Orient.
Banks Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Hopefully he comes back to us in a coaching capacity.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Not fair on Chrissy P if this is true IMO Class man, class act, true gent
Super_horns Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Not going to be a popular move with fans or players. Going to be tough for the new guy to pick them and get results quickly.
indierich06 Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Heard the owners going to install some random foreign bloke. Because that's obviously the key to success in the Championship. I would love it if he came back here to work with the players and the youngsters again.
LcFc_Smiv Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 I think we should tempt him back with a standing ovation at our next home game, what minute you ask, well I was thinking 19 (number of games he played for us), 29 (his kit number), 22 (number of penalties he scored against Logan in the warm up before the game) or 1 (the number of penalties he saved against Logan)..... There's only one Chrissy Powell, one Chrissy Powell........
Jon the Hat Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Wankers. This new owner doesn't deserve him and I hope they go down. Can we tell Lamby to **** off now?
breadandcheese Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Hopefully he won't be out of management for too long. Another case of a manager being expected to produce results whilst being undermined by the owner.
Fox92 Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Not surprised but the owners is just using them. Be surprised if they stayed up anyway.
bluebeau Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Sky Sports News are stating that Charlton have sacked manager Chris Powell. Chris is regarded as a legend by the Charlton supporters, so it's a sad day for them & also for Chris because he has always had a special attachment to the football club. What are the chances of Nigel Pearson bringing Chris back to City? He was highly regarded at City by all concerned, management, players & supporters. Would you like to see him back at City on the coaching staff?
foxfanazer Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Would love him back here. One of footballs real good guys. Would imagine he'll look for another management job somewhere though
MC Prussian Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Where's Lamby? I hope he's ok. Sad day for Charlton, he had them perform so well last season and was facing a much harder challenge this year around (with the promotion bonus long gone and whatnot). He should've stayed, but when a new owner knocks on the door and wants to change things around, Powell was always to be the first victim on the list. Hope he'll find a better club that is more patient with its mid- to long-term planning. Powell's a great coach, a great motivator and a genuinely professional and decent guy. I wish him well - or else he can always come back to our club.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 Bad luck for a very likeable guy. Seems odd timing, with their 4 games in hand they have a real chance of getting back to safety but I guess their new owners would rather try anyone else ASAP, seems to be the way these days Would like him back here as part of the coaching staff, Pearson and Powell are still great friends so it could happen but I think he'd get another managerial job soon enough
Blanesta Posted 11 March 2014 Posted 11 March 2014 That's a real shame, I was hoping he'd get on well in his first managerial position.
