There are few surviving sources on Billy Davies reign, although he is described as a noble and moderate ruler during the first six months of his rule. After this, the sources focus upon his cruelty, sadism, extravagance, and intense sexual perversity, presenting him as an insane tyrant. While the reliability of these sources has increasingly been called into question, it is known that during his brief reign, Davies worked to increase the unconstrained personal power of the ‘emperor’ (as he called the manager’s position). He directed much of his attention to ambitious team construction projects and notoriously nepotistic appointments. However, he initiated the construction of life size statue of himself made of Tunnocks teacakes and Treacle which initiated murmurings from among the supporters and the die was cast. In early 2014 AD, Davies became the forth Forest manager to be sacked in recent years, the result of a conspiracy involving officers of the club, as well as members of the supporters club and players. The conspirators' attempt to use the opportunity to restore the ‘Forest Republic’ was thwarted: on the same day the owners exhumed Brian Clough and declared him Emperor in Davies place.
