Leonardo Ulloa (Brighton) - Bid accepted

Even if we do get an offer accepted, there is absolutely no guarantee that we'll be able to agree personal terms...

If we can't agree terms with a player worth 800k then it might not be straight forward with ulloah

What does the fee paid for a player have to do with a clubs ability to agree personal terms with a player?

And who is Ulloah?

I hope we don't sign him because the mispronunciations of his name will annoy me all season. On that basis I'm also ruling out James Rodriguez.

It all depends on who NP wants. If we have other targets to go for ,fine BUT if not the squad does need some extra quality and time gets short. It would be better if new additions could be in by training camp.By keep going back it strikes me that perhaps other targets have been negative. I am convinced the squad at present is not good enough to stay in the prem.Good morale will only take you so far after 10 years away i hope we dont blow it!!

My take on it as well, we need 3 quality signings, plenty of time but I had hoped we'd have had at least one in by now.

We have to accept that most players will choose to sign for 18 other sides in the PL, we have to offer more in fees and salaries than others do.

No we wouldn't as that is why we've put such a huge price on him. Either pay up or look elsewhere instead of insulting us with these embarrassing small increases every other day.

Don't make me laugh Brighton are just after as much as they can keep knocking us back see how far they can take us !!

Actually sunshine Ulloa is not worth £3m let alone the £10m your greedy little club is asking sorry trying to take the pi$$ out of us £10m YOURE HAVING A LAUGH !!

KEEP HIM YOUR LOSS !!

He's worth whatever Nigel/whoever wants to pay.

£10 million is ridiculous and we aren't going to be spending that on him so calm down.

Don't worry bud I am calm it's a joke to think Brighton think he's worth but £10m let him stay at Brighton we don't need him !!

Ulloa is no akinbiyi as far as lack of talent is concerned. he could turn out to be a waste of money but fortunately, thats not a problem at the moment as we have a fair size pot and NP doesnt look like spending too much of it on fees. You need to have a gamble sometimes.

Yes we have a fair size pot but would hate to think we wasted ex amount of £m on that player !!

No thanks !

Ive been reading this thread and thought I would give my opinion. Ulloa looks the player we need, he scored plenty of goals in a Brighton side that didn't exactly fulfil.

All those that say he isn't should ask them selves how many goals would he have scored had he played for us last season? I would say more than 25. How many times did we create 20 chances and win 1-0. He's a goalscorer and has adapted to life in England, he can also score with his head. How many headed goals did we score last season from corners? not many. We are crying out for a player like this with the chances we could give him.

The other thing to think of is Upson, surly a player with his many years in the game would advise Pearson if he thought Ulloa was not up to the job? Finally Upson is bound to be in contact with him as they were team m8's.

Get him signed asap...its a no brainer for me.

Some good points in there. I thought that as well about Upson. He strikes me as a sensible type of bloke and I'd imagine he's actually got something to do with it - given the amount of experience he has in the top flight then he'd have a pretty good idea of it he's up to it.

The fee puts me off a bit but that isn't something as a fan I should worry about. I'm warming to the idea of him joining the club.

The bottom line is that Pearson and his team know better than us. Vardy, James, Drinkwater, Mahrez, Knocky????

Those signings mean we respect his opinion and judgement. If he's what we need, the price is insignificant to us. It's about a system and a team ethos as well as an individual's ability.

Bang on! If Big Nige and his team want him that's good enough for me. :)

All good players, all yet to make the step up to the top flight, with a squad of players with little experience of playing in the top flight I would like to see some premier league experience in, players who know the division, for 8 to 10 million it's looking like we have got to pay for this bloke, you could get a player with experience and a reasonable amount of quality.

Before I get, we ain't going to get players of that quality, I would rather loan or buy a fringe player at a top club, who has something to prove, but more importantly has played in the premier league.

This bloke doesn't fill me with confidence, and for 8 to 10 million doesn't have the quality to demand that sort of transfer fee.

Gee I wish our fans were thinking just like this. Excellent post.

Hopefully Nigel thinks differently to this. I think he's capable of getting the most out of the players he's got and 'tweaking ' a few areas.

many people want to buy 'top club' fringe players because they think that that means they will be better than anything we can source.

Thankfully Nigel doesn't seem to do that. Harry Rednap does though. And it's not been great for him.

Also. Who did fill you with confidence before we bought them?

Beckford? Mills? Fernandez?

The post referring to Upson (England international by the way) advising Pearson is spot on, but what about Wes and our defence advising him too.Twice we got run ragged by Brighton last year, and no doubt somebody will refer to the old "we were all p@ssed" line, but even if we were, good forward play is good forward play, and Wes and the boys are better placed, along with Upson, and Pearson Walsh and scouting team (who must have watched him dozens of times) to put a value on the player, than anyone on here.

Oh, and it was the best centre forward display from a visiting striker by a mile last season.......

Agree with all that.

look elsewhere now please nige, don't want to be spending 7 million plus on a player who scored 14 and assisted 3 times last season, got to be better options about the market.

norwich just signed a player that scored 22 for 3m

I know this is probably a forbidden opinion on here, but I get the feeling the club is finding it harder than they expected to get the right players in for the prices and wages they want to pay.

I know it's only early July, blah blah blah, but Nigel usually likes to get important business done quickly and he is obviously trying to do stuff, it just isn't happening.

Therefore, we are either going to have to start the season with a weaker team than Pearson would like or adjust what we are prepared to fork out.

For me, the latter is the least bad option.

Ulloa was out for a couple of months last season, and he carried on scoring when he returned so it is pretty likely he'd have improved his tally if the injury hadn't have happened.

so was vardy. all i'm saying is that it's time to look elsewhere much better options than spuffing 7-10 million on ulloa.

if we was in brightons situation id snap there hands off for 5mill for vardy.

brighton are trying to squeeze as much as they can fair play to that but time to move on.

I think you are probably right.

I personally can't see us offering much more, but we'll see what our club is prepared to pay to get their man, we don't look like we've given up on him yet.

Still think there is room to make money on him at these prices. If course, he's a big risk but if he scored 12-15 next season then we'd easily turn a profit. If you find players who prove themselves in the Prem then you instantly increase their value. I'm looking forward to what Drinkwater will be worth in 12 months time!
