AjcW Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 SQUAD SQUAD SQUAD SQUAD SQUAD!! Can we have that on a banner at the top of the forum or something? Kinell some people! We are building a SQUAD and if that squad happens to include a former England defender who could teach our current England U21 defender a thing or two then im all for it!
foxfanazer Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 I think so, imagine you are Liam Moore and walking out at Anfield or Old Trafford, these places are going to be intimidating, having players like Upson and Konch strolling along like it is just another game will have a calming factor, he will know what it is like to face up against Suarez, Torres, Rooney, Van Persie and that sort of experience could be huge to help the likes of Moore and Morgan who won't have faced that kind of quality.Yeah I suppose you're right. If he isn't making much of an impact himself on the field then is his experience still important? I just worry about his age and pace
RowlattsFox Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 To be fair to upson if it wasn't for injuries he'd probably still be playing in the premier league. He has put together two solid seasons together so hopefully he is over the injuries.
WhispyWizard Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Yeah in the Championship. As I said in the other thread, if we were in Brighton's position (a Championship club), then I'd be pleased with him. Just that in the Premier League, at 35, I feel he could get caught out. He's never been the fastest player anyway, never mind now. Bovril made a good point regarding he brings Premier League experience, but that's all I feel he brings. I hope he doesn't get in the team ahead of Moore, that's more to the point I am making. In Nige we trust, though. I worry for Liam to be honest, he wasn't in the starting 11 much last season, so this season he may see even less opportunities. Pearson will no doubt put out the best team he can every week, and rightly so, so if Moores good enough, he'll make it in past Wasyl and Upson. Looks like we are building from the back, so are we going to go left, right or straight on for our next signing? For I LM - CM - RM I LB - Signed - RB I Signed
Manwell Pablo Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 47 games for a team with the second best defence in the league is hardly past it. That's probably more games than most players in the champ started last year. If we're expecting him to be first choice all the time in the prem, then I can perhaps understand peoples worries. But I'd imagine that's unlikely, it will be much more of a GTF, Hammond, Phillips type role that he will play. He's a year older now, and it was a Championship defense. It's an odd signing, I honestly don't think he improves on what we have, he's not the worst center back in the world though.
Haydos Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Do not understand this. Always thought he was average in the prem. Average in the Prem is better than what we need. Although I'm also underwhelmed by this his experience could be vital, would be hoping for another higher level CB tbh but I trust Nige with this.
Happy Fox Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Played 315 times in the prem, and has won the premier league and the FA Cup not bad for a squad player.
LCFC FOX Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Good signing on a one year, if we come back down we can extend it. As others have said its about the experience
JJS84 Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Good bit of Business, our 25 man squad is filling out nicely, but before anyone starts panicking there is still plenty of room in it to add some quality at the back, but his experience and reliability will be great on and off the pitch. It is also great we are getting good business done early, as previously mentioned, Derby and QPR don't even know which division they will be in yet and we have already made 2 quality additions to the squad, with a couple more rumoured to be on their way. A full pre season will be key to getting the best out of Upson and others, integrated into the squad and 100% fit and ready for the opening game of the season. This, I like the fact we're working on our squad so early, even Burnley haven't made any significant moves in the transfer market that I'm aware of. as for Upson, I'm hoping he is part of the padding that will make up the squad and we're getting these deals done early before we spend money on strengthening the spine. E I E I E I O, Back to the Football League we go... this is a bit boring, surely we should trust the manager on this one, his record on signings is pretty good, and i have no doubt it wont have been a spur of the moment thing, thought will have been put into this and he will give something to the team.
LCCFox96 Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 I wasn't and still am not too sure about this one. Obviously Upson is top drawer defender with bags of prem and international experience and still has the ability to play top level football. My main worry - and I must say with every CB we have not just Upson - is their pace. At 35 what Upson has in experience he will lack in pace in the premiership. But this is still a good signing, very much of the KP and GTF experience mould and is definately a solid enough signing for the bottom end of table. Welcome to Leicester City.

Guest Kopfkino Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 If Alex Bruce can mangage a season and possibly more in the PL, them Upson will be just fine
GLC Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Bags of experience! People need to remember, none of our CB have PL experience!
sly1 Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 O dear I'm fearing this, what is it with these old ones I know it's experience but c, mon leicester better signings please onwards & upwards or else championship drop so quick😕
WhispyWizard Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 If Alex Bruce can mangage a season and possibly more in the PL, them Upson will be just fine This, imagine the outcry if we'd signed Bruce
jamesmilner Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 experience = quality ? not really ,does it ? where does he fit in ? on the training field helping the non experienced prem players or on the pitch ? forwards are not going to quake in their boots at the prospect of him marking them are they ? Philips is experienced in the prem ,so its not the best signing . I just hope like nigel did last season , he will prove me wrong .
Corky Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 I love these underwhelming signings, usually means we do well. Now we can throw in a pre-season defeat at a crap lower league club and we're all set for a memorable season.
HitchinFox Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Good signing and great news that we're strengthening our bench. Upson will also add a bit of experience and presence to the dressing room. Liam Moore now has the likes of Wes, Was and Upson around (and big Nige of course) - great news in terms of him being able to pick their brains and learn from them.
MC Prussian Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 O dear I'm fearing this, what is it with these old ones I know it's experience but c, mon leicester better signings please onwards & upwards or else championship drop so quick We've only had two new signings so far - one of which is 35 and another one who is 26 (which, for a goalkeeper, is rather young). Let's see what the rest of the summer brings us before we hit the !PANIC! button, shall we?
Mjeb Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Good in the air , as we suffered on crosses some times last season , not sure how quick he is . But was in team that beat us twice last season , and was brightons player of the season . He can read the game very well , experience will be vital . We are in the premier up the city I cannot wait
WhispyWizard Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Gutted, but best of luck to him. If you guys had gone up, would he have kept his place in the starting 11? or would you have looked to replace him?
Dan Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 If Alex Bruce can mangage a season and possibly more in the PL, them Upson will be just fine Good shout. Damien Delaney too. I struggle to imagine Upson is a poorer defender than either of those two. This signing's growing on me more and more.
teblin Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Bit like the Wayne brown signing when we went into the Championship from League 1. Except Upson is a far better player than Wayne Brown ever has been.

Yes, yes and yes could not agreed more with this statement. we're working on our squad and that is no bad thing at this stage, am so excited to get this season under way.
