It's interesting that people are slating Nugent for wanting money but view Izzet as a legend.

I remember Izzet leaving clearly, he stated he had a family to take care of and needed the money, and he'd had nearly a decade of far higher wages than Nugent. He'd had nearly six years on a Premier League salary, and was a millionaire times over by virtue of playing for us. He still ditched us because we couldn't continue paying his inflated salary and went to Birmingham in search of the coin. Is he to be viewed as a greedy twat too? It's also worthy of note that Izzet was on the transfer list for two years because he wanted out. Nugent has never made these kinds of desperate attempts to get away from us.

I'm not slating Izzet here, I remember him fondly, but it is interesting that Nugent is a greedy twat because he wants a pay rise in conjuction with his company's rise in division, but Muzz is a legend despite leaving us to seek more money and wanting out for a quarter of his time here.

Thats bullshit.

We accepted a bid from Middlesborough for Izzet 2 years before he left, who offered him more money but he chose to stay to help the team.

The reason he left was we didnt offer him another contract when his ran out as we couldnt afford to keep him.

Key words there are that we didnt offer him a contract. Izzet didnt have a choice, Nugent does.

The two are miles apart.

I really don't understand people who knock a player for trying to do the best he can do financially for himself. Just put yourself in the position that you have a gift for football that makes you able, out of all the wannabes to get a professional contract. You know you've got a limited career period and after that, unless you have a head for business, you and your family will be living on what you've accumulated. Why shouldn't you make the best of your abilities? Talking about Muzzy. He gave some damn good years to Leicester. Did I begrudge him leaving to get the most out of his career? No! I won't say I wasn't very sad to see him go though. As for Nugent. However frustrating some may find him, he's made a difference to the fortunes of Leicester City and, if he gets a better offer, and chooses to move on then good luck to him! If he turns up for some other team at the KP I won't be booing but I might want to see Was give him a few bruises.

Agree with this he was on fortune at Pompey and when they can't pay anymore he still wants to bleed them dry.

He is a greedy twat and is on silly money here and still wants more.

If I am to believe what was written in 'The Secret Footballer' book then apparently Pompey managed to pay a few players in full at short notice to stop a scandal.

Don't judge everything as it appears, especially in football where you have agents draining clubs left right and centre

And just where did you find the figures ?

Really? I'd be disappointed.

Yes it's always so disappointing when your top scorer and the guy who lead the club in assists last season signs a new contract. Can't really think of anything worse than retaining a player with such a record. Who has had the stupid idea of even offering him a contract? Ludicrous.

Oh well some things like England getting booted out of a competition never change.

Some no mark reporter put something about money and one of our players and half the forum is on his back with no proof what so ever.

Has anyone actually thought that by now if the 2 parties were that far apart that the club may have issued a statement.

Praps something like.

LCFC are sorry to say David Nugent will be leaving the club at the end of his contract.

After lengthy discussion the 2 parties can not come to any agreement on terms for his new contract.

Thanks for all you have done good bye.

Dyer and Nugent leaving means we can improve two crucial attacking areas of the pitch and give us a better chance of staying up.

They didn't with Dyer until he agreed his move to Watford.

Surely you get rid of your back ups from last season as opposed to ditching the guy who has lead the club in goals and assists last season? Dyer was a back up at the end of last season yet a lot of people wanted him to stay. Nugent was critical to our promotion and has been scoring goals, providing assists for a number of seasons, yet a lot of people are willing to get rid of him. It doesn't make any sense.

Seems to me that, other than some vital experience at the back, Pearson is making an extra effort to retain the players who can still improve. He seems to be making only nominal efforts to retain those who have reached their peak.

He's not just planning for next season, but for the season after...

Well it depends, maybe Nugent is asking for a little too much and Pearson believes he can bring someone in younger and better for that money.

Not really much to keep going on about, Nugents level is the championship he'll do about as much as hooper did at Norwich in the premiership! Yes he scores goals yes he gets assists in the championship but it's horses for courses and to be fair I wouldn't be upset he left for another club but it won't be a premier league club because he's not good enough!

Another premier league club could well take nuge. he can expect to spend a lot of time on the bench wherever he goes. however, a three year deal would probably be attractive to him. if we are offering only a one year deal then i'm not surprised he hasnt signed. if he spends the next year not playing and then becomes a free agent again, his value will be lower than it is now re a new contract elsewhere.

I would be very surprised if he signs a one year deal with us.

Although loyalty would say we should be offering him a two year deal at the least, i am impressed that we are clealry being ambitious.

This assumes the information we have is correct.

Nugent now a target for forest again

They can have him, with their wagebill + Nugent's demands they'll probably get a massive fine. That would be funny

No chance they will get a fine!

They have to get promotion to the Premier for that to happen.

Just a Transfer embargo for those staying in the Championship or going to League 1.

So we are a few weeks from back in training and a few including the manager haven't signed contracts. Cynical me, perhaps an agent whowstands to make 10/15/20% of an extra 5/10k a week over 104/156 weeks wont be trying a few tricks to get their guy and more importantly for them a huge chunk of cash. Nugent will look pretty stupid if he tweets about the Everton game then clears off. Gossip columns need to sell papers so fill them with any old tosh luckily for us England will be coping loads for a bit.

Losing Nugent would be a big mistake by this football club.

That said, no player should hold the club to ransom. And I do mean NO player.
