Bert Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 60 caps doesn't mean he's still good enough? I think he'll really struggle with the pace of the premIf Alex Bruce can do it, so can Wasyl.
hackneyfox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 If Alex Bruce can do it, so can Wasyl. Not confident about Wes and Was, too small and slow. We need a 6'5" pacy centre half with Premier experience. Not asking for too much.
st albans fox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 re GTF - i think he had a clause in his contract whereby we had to offer him another one if he made a certain number of appearances. perhaps he doesnt want to go elsewhere and is staying here on a 'low' wage.

He did, but I think we could have stopped playing him is the point people are making. Nige always strikes me as the sort of guy who will look after people who do right by him. GTF contributed and got another year, fair play to him... he might not end up in the 25 though if we sign a few more.

Babylon Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 You really don't like him do you!? Be surprised if he doesn't end up in the 25. Eh.... I've not had a bad word to say about the bloke last season, in fact anything I've said has only been positive. Next season is a different matter though, unless he comes back having shed a stone in weight I would personally feel like it's a waste of a spot in the 25, and that we should be looking at better longer term alternatives.

Agree. I don't think there's time to be sentimental. Nuge isn't going to be good enough for us in the Premiership. Move on.
Rob1742 Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 I think we will want him to stay at a price. But like Lloyd Dyer, we maybe able to get a better option for our money. Lloyd is right for Watford for three years, but wouldn't have been for us. Nugent, maybe because he was on a huge contract he now wants to better that, which won't be possible. My money is on him staying. I can see them looking around for something better, but can't see that he will get better. My thoughts are he was probably on 35k per week last year. This year he will be offered something like 2 years at £20k per week, reduced to £10k if we go down. It will be a hard pill for him to swallow after what he has enjoyed. But, the only options available to him would be a championship team maybe offering him £15k per week for three years. Or maybe Burnley would offer three years. If we are to offer big sums out, he wouldn't be one of those that we would offer it too. Kasper yes, as there is good money to be had if we sold him. But Nugent on big money would be a financial liability and not a financial asset.
Babylon Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Agree. I don't think there's time to be sentimental. Nuge isn't going to be good enough for us in the Premiership. Move on. We were talking about GTF. On Nugent I completely disagree, not that I think he'll be a success (who knows), but that he definitely should be in our squad. You just don't get rid of your top scorer and top assists man.

You do if you can afford better and get more value for money in someone else. He's been paid well for 3 years, and for me his performances don't warrant a Schmeichel-esqe increase in wages/contract if that's what he's after.

That wasn't the point being addressed, but no you are right I wouldn't want to keep any player at all costs. We don't know what's been offered or what's being requested, so we'll have to leave that with the club.
Bert Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Agree. I don't think there's time to be sentimental. Nuge isn't going to be good enough for us in the Premiership. Move on.But other teams in the prem believe he'll be good enough for them? He wants to stay. In his agents hands at the minute.
harpendenfox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 But other teams in the prem believe he'll be good enough for them? He wants to stay. In his agents hands at the minute. Well surely he just instructs his agent that he wants to stay? The agent works for him at the end of the day.
st albans fox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Well surely he just instructs his agent that he wants to stay? The agent works for him at the end of the day. we've debated this one before but in the instance where a player is already at a club, i suspect his agent is less important although you can be sure that nuge's agent is busy getting offers elsewhere which will earn him more dosh so he can try and convince him he should move on. they're only interested in driving the best deal for their client (and therefore themselves).
GingerrrFox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 His agent can push all he wants, but at the end of the day the club have set their stall out and if he wants to stay he signs. If not he can go and see if the grass is greener.
J.Lisemore Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Get the feeling he's probably just waiting for QPR to make a bid or something. Anything for more money.
sylofox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Not sure it's the weekly wage that is problem. IMO it is probably the length of the contract that is the problem. Just as it seems to be with Dyer.
Stevosevic Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Came here for the money, and will leave for the money if it's on the table. We'll see.
GingerrrFox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Not sure it's the weekly wage that is problem. IMO it is probably the length of the contract that is the problem. Just as it seems to be with Dyer. Obviously I don't know and would never pretend to know contract specifics but I was told his wages were so high that there was no chance we could keep him if we hadn't been promoted. You have to weigh up if the money could be better spent elsewhere, plus he wants more money than before.
J.Lisemore Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 I would be very disappointed if we gave in to his demands of a pay rise to be honest. He's had a brilliant season, and its seems strange to say, but I think we'd be better off looking at other targets. Obviously it'll all be rosy again when he signs a new deal in the end....

You have to weigh up if the money could be better spent elsewhere, plus he wants more money than before. How do we know he wants more money. I know nothing the contract length was as said my opinion. As I have said before once money is mentioned so many seem to believe it. But when someone say's we are linked with or in talks with a player everyone wants to know where the storey is from.
Agent Fox Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 We can do better. Invest Nugent money into another striker.
Mark_w Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 Came here for the money, and will leave for the money if it's on the table. If Nigel Pearson thought that Nugent was only here for the money, I have a feeling he would have been playing for Bolton last year.
lgfualol Posted 11 June 2014 Posted 11 June 2014 His agent needs to just get a contract signed and stop pushing. Eventually the club will look at replacements (if they havent already) and maybe just stop trying to come up with a deal. I think he'd be decent next season.
