Benji Posted 18 November 2014 Posted 18 November 2014 You're sat in front of the TV on Saturday and your lottery numbers come up. How much would you need to win to get up on Monday morning, walk in to work and resign? It amazes me the amount of people I've spoken to who have said no matter how much it is, they'd get bored so would continue to work. I just can't relate to that. Half a million and I'm gone. I might have to go back with my tail between my legs after five years, but what a great five years.
Rincewind Posted 18 November 2014 Posted 18 November 2014 I don't work anyway but i'd enjoy spending it. may use some of it to fund a good cause. Reason being I have no close family to leave it to IE. wife children. I'd see my brothers and sisters OK I'm talking about a few grand here. Anything less I would use to support myself in my waning years. But as I do not do the lottery it will never happen.
Soar Fox Posted 18 November 2014 Posted 18 November 2014 £1 million. Spend sensibly and not be to flash so I don't have to work again. Though I'd probably go to auctions to buy & sell cars as a hobby.
Swarles Barkley Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 8mil. just about right for new house, car, holidays, helping out the family and future family and to live out a comfortable life
jonthefox Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 A million would be plenty. I often wonder about these people who win 13/14 million or so. Can't help but think it would cause you more problems than good.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 £1mill, buy a standard 3 bed house - buy a not-outrageous car and just live comfortably, my set a bit aside to have a to at investing and making the cash work for me. And my open up a bar somewhere abroad just to keep me interested and again, make a bit of cash. The playboy lifestyle wouldn't interest me one bit.
Strokes Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 To quit my job, not much, £200k. To stop working altogether, im not sure I could do that.
Aus Fox Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 I love my job, I may go part time but I would still need to continues working, regardless of how much money I won. I would certainly take more time off, see the world have a bit of fun. But I genuinely don't think I would quit my job.
pSinatra Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 I've always said that if I won the lottery I would still do my job.......except I wouldn't charge for it. Most of my customers are old dears & it often feels like I'm running a charity, because I'm soft & do far too many favours for them. I suppose something like half a million would do me.
cambridgefox Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 Changing the subject .We did a survey at work on how much money you would want to be bummed by another bloke.Must be a celeb and who? I went for 100k and Ronnie Corbett ( gunna take me ages to save up mind) I think a million, however I would still do some sort of work.if I won silly money on the Euro I would honestly say I would share it with my already mates to live the same lifestyle as me eg Ashes Australia, some might not get time off work etc make them the same as you, enjoy it with them. What memories we would have.probably end up killing ourselves through drink or drink related incedent.
hairy Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 They say you need £2m to then earn an average income from it. Who wants average? £4m and I'll shut up shop

Good choice. Ronnie's wang is massive. They call him the tripod.
Bayfox Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 well 600k would cover my earnings for the next 20 years so I suppose anything above that would do. so lets say a million and I'd be tempted as I'd be mortgage free with with 750k in the bank.

Whilst gaining a nice but of interest. For me it'd have to be the jackpot. Although if I won £250k+ I'd quit working full time and try and get a part time job in the bookies or something simply so I can just have an easy life, whilst still being in work but also being able to watch the racing and everything else, whilst getting paid.
ousefox Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 I'd probably quit my job and try and set up a business with a bit of the money and see how far I could get with that.
filbertway Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 Probably around £10,000,000. Mainly as my main hobby/aim in life would be turning Coalville Town professional and aiming to get them into the football league. (Which I guess is work but it's living the fantasy of running a football club). As long as you keep busy and have hobbies, you shouldn't want to work.
kingcarr21 Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 Just quit my job after winning £2.70 on Euromillions last night. Gonna live the high life on 4 kinder eggs and a 10p accumulator
VLC86 Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 Just quit my job after winning £2.70 on Euromillions last night. Gonna live the high life on 4 kinder eggs and a 10p accumulator Rock and roll mate, fingers crossed you get some good toys in them! To quit work permanently it would have to be a couple of million. If I won £500k I would set up my own business to keep me ticking over, buy a few houses at auction and do them up to probably. Crazy when you look at people who have blown mega money, Look at David James. Madness.
ADK Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 I'd just be a company director, try a few business ideas, whack some of the winnings in a relatively safe investment too. Wouldn't carry on doing a 9-5 job like a complete mug. Money is a great enabler but won't make you happy if you have no direction. Interesting topic though. What would the magic number be? No idea really. 500k? I'll probably do this anyway at some point.
