It's pretty dark days to be a City fan at the moment if truth be told.

Who would have thought we'd be this bad?

Nige has gone from pretty much hero to zero in less than one season.

Yesterday was really really disappointing.

I remain amazed however at the strength of feeling on the night he was 'sacked' (posters stating they had been crying, pictures of Jesus reincarnated etc) to the strength of anti-feeling yesterday.

Dark days. We need a spark from somewhere...

That spark won't come while Pearson remains in charge.. Worrying that some players yesterday looked disinterested almost?.. Wonder if he's losing the dressing room now with his arrogance and pigheadedness?

forgot to mention - we set up yesterday as if we thought villa would not have been allowed to watch the arsenal game. one of the reasons it worked at the emirates was arsenal don't care as much about how the opposition is likely to play, especially a side like us. They will have made some provisions but based on our normal 4-4-1-1 set up and the small poss that we would play a diamond. We surprised them and they didn't really have a plan to play against our formation.

Villa would have prepared for us to set up like that and they tactically stifled us. We had a good 20 min in the first half but we had allowed villa to get a good foothold in the first twenty minutes to get rid of any nerves they may have had.

so what was our plan B? Sherwood (who clearly can see what is going on in front of him), changed their tactics at the interval. Did no one in our camp think that might happen? did we have no plan in case villa changed their style completely and went direct?

This is what the manager and his team (not the players) are paid a decent wedge to sort out. They clearly struggle to do it on a weekly basis and this is one of the big differences at this level. We are found wanting and that's a big reason why we languish at the bottom.

A lot of the times I don't agree with you and yes I was sad when he got 'sacked' - sentimentality I suppose, but think you've hit the nail on the head this time

Hold on...We DID have a plan B..and played it at exactly the time most were asking for it to be played.

Unfortunately it was the WRONG plan b.

Read the match thread. Which posters on there who were calling for the change then castigated Pearson for having made it?

Babylon is right..He can't win.

Why do you keep referencing this... it was clearly a joke.  :D

I would give him a 50 year contract, he can manage us after he is dead .

Last week showed, NP cannot be killed...

I don't think anyone wanted Was to be the man who made way, but the point is that you don't just get one go.

Mahrez might as well have gone home after 25 minutes-he did nothing and didn't look bothered. Ulloa was a good enough call-then leave it 5/7 and change it again and put Albrighton on for Mahrez. Then with 10 minutes to go in a Cup tie where we're losing put Vardy on to run at them and maybe make a bit of space for Kram/Ulloa. Not nothing. Just not nothing.

Even after we scored, with 3 minutes to go we didn't chase-we didn't look like it had even occurred to us that another goal was a possibility. Such a sad turnaround from Spurs and Arsenal.

No it does not.

He's failed in his job of keeping us in the PL, barring miracles.

Living in the past is not productive

Well the seasons not over yet still enough games to get us safe, were only five points from saftey yes we've played some awful football and it's so FOOKING frustrating knowing how we can play at times !

I've said before our football seems to blow hot and cold so frustrating taking one step forward and three back with our performances, but now I believe we can go forward and survive the drop with or without PEARSON who knows its up to the board not us !

I've always trusted in NIGEL to take us forward and survive the drop but yes it's frustrating when you see his formations team choices , others on a regular basis and they have the right to their own thoughts and comments have called for his head and they have the right to comment but if the board were to sack him today who would we go for?...

Yes he's frustrated us leaving a player with Albrightons ability still playing his buddy MORGAN who at times is inept of a decent performance etc etc etc he needs to sort this out and I feel with Huth coming back in the side will help us to be better at the back, and he'll play MORGAN instead of Was he needs to sort out a winning side and formation and stick with it !

It's never been easy being a foxes fan over the years a great roller coaster ride of emotions let's not get carried away with an awful display at villa park get behind our manager and players for the rest of the season and I still think we will just finish above the bottom three !!

It's not just Babylon saying that .... he cannot win because he doesn't set the team up to win.

To watch the most dire half of football and then watch us deteriorate for 15 minutes in the second half before he realised he needed to change something ... and then getting the subs all wrong .... is just bad management.

Whilst you enjoyed the first half and thought we'd had a good half, and played well!!!! Anyone that has ever watched a game of football could see that we were appalling against a avery very poor side and the tactics were wrong from the start, and then changed badly as well.

I'm not going to get into a circular argument with you, suffice it to say you were one of the ones calling for a change..In fact to a 4-4-2. So Pearson did as you had wanted. I said stick with the 5-4-1. It had limited them to only half chances and we still looked like we could ride it out.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make here. You are making yourself look ridiculous. Nigel did what you suggested, formation wise, and it backfired big time. As I suggested then and there, that it would.

If you are saying he should have replaced Morgan, not Was..I agree. I'd have also got Cambiasso off for Hammond..The former was gone...

But tactically, you got exactly what you called for.

I've said it all along, NP is clueless tactically but would you listen?

Even the mods on here know I'm right as they refuse to show my posts instead of eating humble pie.

I wonder if the real truth will come out about him once we have removed him from our club?

Plan B ? I didn't mean a complete change of formation - that would be plan D or E!

Seriously, they stifled our pattern - surely we would have made provision for this within the 5-4-1 formation? Surely we would have expected them to have a plan to counter our formation?

More importantly, when they went direct in the second half ( wasn't this considered in the interval? Even the pundits were calling for them to play like that ) , that's when we really needed to change our tactics. But we didn't and then, bizarrely, we changed to 4-4-2. If you are going four at the back then at least have an extra body infront of the back four to compete for the second ball.

If pearson was thinking that he didn't want a replay at any cost and therefore change it to force a result then fine but that didnt excuse the lack of tactical reaponse in the first quarter of the second half.

so excited to be in the minority of fans at goodison who are actually going to support the team and manager. isn't this gonna be a fun away day.

You sure you will be able to get down off your high horse to make it to the game

Dark days. We need a spark from somewhere...

I remember the years in between 2004 and 2008 being worse than this - and some consider our stint in League One a failure (of course, it was a brilliant season from a sportive perspective).

Right now, there's little darkness about the situation. It's more so the fact that reality settles in, telling us that we're not as good as some made us out to be back in August.

All in all, I'd go as far as calling it a disappointing situation - yet the season's not over, so there's still hope we'll rediscover both the knack for scoring and prevent costly individual errors from happening.

It's a bit worse than disappointing mate its quite frankly embarrassing we are going down with a whimper.

According to the Opta stats we had two shots on target in the whole match.

Even if you included Was's header against the post that would be two in the ninety minutes.

And this against a truly dreadful Villa team.

The facts speak for themselves!

Makes me laugh how people keep coming up with cliches and writing so much bullshit they're starting to believe themselves such as 'There are worse teams that us in the league'. Erm..are there? Villa are awful, probably the worst team i've seen this season, they've beat us 2 times out of 3 though. People need to step back and look at the bigger picture, stop cocooning themselves.

Posted

Talking of stats, had a gander on flashscores and apparently we had 48% of the possession?! I don't believe that for one second, the majority of the times we touched the ball it was dumped straight to the Villa defence and then we'd get 9 men on the edge of the box ready for the next attack.

Surely it was closer to 70/30.

I'm pretty certain that we had/have the players to stay up this season. The problem as I see it is we have a Manager who sets the side up and  encourages negative ball possession 35/65 to the opposition. This in itself doesn't have to be a total disaster but, unlike Burnley for instance, that opposition possession is almost exclusively in our half. It's why no team actually hammers us. The frustrating aspect is when we have to chase goals the players are more than capable of taking the game to the opposition (ie. Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal),

Posted

Certainly Pearson is responsible for our embarrassing, and inept season, but let's keep him until the end of it. Let him be the one who will have failed miserably, shown up to be a massive failure.

A new manager, and a fresh start, will blow away the cobwebs of the nightmare we are having to put up with.

Genuinely a bit dissapointed there hasn't been an announcement today. I suspect after last weeks debacle that that is it for this season, Pearson stays.
