Leicester City have sacked director of football Terry Robinson but insist manager Nigel Pearson’s job is safe.

Robinson has been dismissed following crisis talks between Pearson and the Leicester board on Saturday night, with the club bottom of the Premier League after 11 games without a win.

Leicester’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City has forced the club’s Thai owners into action and Robinson has paid the price for their summer transfer business.

Despite the £8 million record signing of Leonardo Ulloa, many of Leicester’s signings have barely figured including former Aston Villa winger Marc Albrighton and Manchester United’s Nick Powell.

Danny Simpson only made his debut in last weekend’s defeat at Aston Villa while Matthew Upson has not played after suffering an ankle injury.

Ulloa, signed from Brighton in a deal which smashed the club’s previous transfer record, has also struggled in recent months and only scored one goal in 11 games.

Pearson is also under mounting pressure after the club’s alarming slump but his position is not believed to be under threat at this stage.

The 51-year-old was called in for talks with chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha after Saturday’s game and it is understood the decision to relieve Robinson of his duties was made during those discussions.

Robinson’s departure is likely to increase speculation that Leicester will move for Tony Pulis, should Pearson eventually lose his own job. Robinson and Pulis are said to have had a fractious relationship during their time together at Stoke, where Robinson was the academy director.

Leicester sources insist the link is coincidental, however, and stress that Robinson’s exit is purely down to what the club have judged to be poor dealings over the summer.

When most of us use this board it's a bit like chat in a pub - we hear stuff and say stuff - coz we can. But when you are in a more diplomatic situation, I have always found it wise to take time before venturing an opinion (so that you know where everyone else is and what that barriers are you have to deal with). The fact that bourne or stringer may be making noise about this is probably down to their own need to be listened to... rather than them having any insight. If the owners were unhappy with last summer they have had time to deal with it... I believe this is simply about putting the right people in the right roles (or letting go of someone they don't want in a role) ready for us to do some business...

Agreed. I find it difficult when people have their Twitter accounts but then so blatantly intertwine them with their line of work.

For example Bourne and Stringer will constantly be urging listeners to Tweet to their personal accounts as part of their job but then will think that the line of "all views are my own" gives them free reign to give their opinion independent of their role at BBC Radio Leicester. Essentially now, when I see Stringer and Bourne Tweet from those accounts I associate it with Radio Leicester because you can't selectively differentiate personal/professional when it suits.

The guy has every right to his own opinion and to express it but I just think it's a little naive at first glance.

Good news for me and suggests Pearson has the backing of the owners. I stated in another thread a few days ago that one of the scouts tweeted something along the lines of its good to see a target performing but frustrating it isn't for you. Looked like a clear dig at the person in charge of negotiations.

Also, for the people saying Cambiasso wasn't a Pearson signing, EC stated he signed because of how much Nigel wanted him. Why did the signing take so long? NP talked about having to 'accelerate' the deal when we got a few injuries, did he mean instructing the owners to go above Robinson and now to the demands of the 3rd parties linked to the deal?

Look at the appearances of the signings. Powell, Albrighton, Upson, Simpson etc. Do the number of appearances strike you as the managers signings?

Also, look at the success rate of our signings under Nigel before Robinson came in and look after. What stands out like a sore thumb is the success rate nose dived in the summer.

Sure Rob McKenzie, one of Walsh's team had a lot to do with Albrighton

Rudkins got it.

Is this a joke I'm missing or are you saying that we've promoted our youth team boss to be in charge of player contracts?

I know Neville was club secretary..suppose he had an input into all the contract stuff too...thought Rudkin WAS DOF before?

I dont know what goes on behind the scenes. But to me this sends a big message of support for Pearson from the owners that could filter to the players to say dig in and get the results. Could also be a signal for an interesting January

I thought it was Andrew Neville?

Don't get me wrong these players would have been on a list but what choice?

A good DOF might sign 1 of the top 3 choices, a crap one might get the 8th choice. Don't forget Albrighton was on a free so low risk.

Agree though, them articles are a great read.

Nice that the Pearson lovers have got their scapegoat for his failings . So Robinson gets the boot and we can all blame him for the lack of quality players in the summer. Pearson was the manager then , if he was not happy with the so called restrictions put on his buying why the hell did he not speak to the owners and tell them that he had no chance of stopping up with what we had ?

All a Red Herring to take the heat off the man who is to blame for us being at the bottom ---------------Pearson.

Why are we writing off all our Summer signings already? I know a lot of them haven't made the immediate impact we'd have liked, but that doesn't mean they're definitely not good enough.

Ulloa - The only striker we have who is showing signs of being able to score in the Premier League regularly so far.

Cambiasso - Started really well I think.

Simpson - He's only had a couple of games, but he looks like an improvement on De Laet to me, certainly decent competition anyway.

Powell - Loan, not had much chance.

Upson - Injured.

Albrighton - Been used in bits and pieces, effective occasionally.

Hamer - Much better second choice than Conrad, has done well when he's been called on.

Plus some academy kids who have been signed for the future. It seems we haven't done all of the business we needed to, but I think it's harsh to write any of these players off at this stage. We've had sixteen games and for one reason or another most of our new signings haven't featured in any of them. Of course I don't know exactly what has gone on between Robinson/Pearson/the owners, but I genuinely think it's way too early to decide the players we have signed aren't good enough.

It's perfectly possible that he did, they didn't agree and he's being proved right. I doubt that, but it's possible.

What we shouldn't be doing is using Robinson's sacking to influence the argument about Pearson staying or going when we have no idea what he's been sacked for.

This is a good point - I too dislike it when Bourne says send me your comments to MY twitter account... and then he reads them out in front of those who text to the bbc number. One other gripe last night was the obsession with mentioning the rugby and the fact you could hear it on DAB or online (but on from the commentaries link...) - I am sure any tigers fans knew what to do... I also don't understand why they have a 1 min station id piece when folk are queuing up to call... I used to text in and say "this is the phone in not Alan young spouts bullsh1t..get some callers on" - now even Alan's not there for our entertainment

When you read that, it does put it into perspective. If you didnt know what league we were in, you could easily get mistaken for them being signings of a championship club going for promotion
