lgfualol Posted 22 March 2015 Posted 22 March 2015 I turned it on just as they went past the pile of concrete and steel and thought what a good advert for the city that was. Or the Ladbrookes on the corner of a street. I couldn't be as religious as these lot on TV. All seems a bit silly from my point of view.
promised land Posted 22 March 2015 Posted 22 March 2015 Or the Ladbrookes on the corner of a street. I couldn't be as religious as these lot on TV. All seems a bit silly from my point of view. Firebug had a good exposure, what's with all the throwing of roses? That's all come about since Diana got killed in the Paris underpass. I bet the flower sellers have made a killing selling them today.
Rincewind Posted 22 March 2015 Posted 22 March 2015 Was quite enjoying this until Soulsby appeared. i was enjoying it until they turned the sound on in the pub while I was watching Hull v Chelsea on the other TV.. I had my back to the other screen so could not see it. I thought it would be all over and done with by lunchtime and all his relatives would be in a boozer toasting his life.
Webbo Posted 22 March 2015 Posted 22 March 2015 Anyone watching? I had to turn the radio off cus the prayers were creeping me out. "Lord save your people" Yeah. Why do religious services have to always resort to that kind of thing? My family are justing watching to see if they recognise anyone.

Vacamion Posted 22 March 2015 Posted 22 March 2015 From Twitter: "People are throwing roses on the coffin of Richard III as they proceed through Leicester. He truly was the people's child killer."
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 22 March 2015 Posted 22 March 2015 From Twitter: "People are throwing roses on the coffin of Richard III as they proceed through Leicester. He truly was the people's child killer." There is now great doubt that it was Richard, who ordered the Princes to be murdered, in the Tower of London. I really felt very emotional, at seeing the hearse make it's way to the battlefield, and wouldn't have missed it for the world. I just wish I could have been there in person.
Spudulike Posted 22 March 2015 Posted 22 March 2015 I thought that it was fabulous. Don't think that it could've gone any better. Perhaps this might've changed some peoples jaundiced view of Leicester. Very proud.
Jimothy Posted 22 March 2015 Posted 22 March 2015 I thought that it was fabulous. Don't think that it could've gone any better. Perhaps this might've changed some peoples jaundiced view of Leicester. Very proud. Not likely, we've already had someone moan about Ladbrokes being in view in one shot, like that wouldn't happen in the vast majority of British cities and towns.
Larry_LCFC Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 I was slightly surprised to see it all being shown live on channel 4, including the "funeral". Slightly over the top was it not?
Steven Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 Watched the parade but not the service. Thought the city did itself proud. Now if only the football team could join in .....
Babylon Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 Some really sour, vitriolic crap being posted from 'oop North' on various sources....Slagging off events as 'Amateur' and 'Cheap'. There really, really never has been, (nor will be), anything so sour and bitter as a beaten 'Yorkie'!! Most of whom don't have the first clue about him. How many times I've seen stuff like "He's the Duke of York, he wanted to be buried in York, Leicester weren't interested in him before this, they just want the money" stuff spouted is laughable. The vast majority of them have no clue he's not even the Duke of York. When you point out that he's the Duke of Gloucester, born in Northamptonshire, wife buried in London, Father (the actual Duke of York) buried in Northants. That there is no record of him wanting to be buried anywhere in particular they go a little quiet.

Even the BBC called him Richard of York during last nights bulletin. Clueless. I think that half the problem is the name 'York' that is no more than an aristocratic title but has been confused, deliberately by some, with the City of York. Two very separate things that many find difficulty understanding. Even the white rose didn't have any connection with Yorkshire until the last century.

The "Leicester weren't interested in him before" stuff also grates. We've had roads, schools, pubs, statues, plaques, monuments etc around the county for hundreds of years. I'm sure I read a service had been held ever year about him at the cathedral along with your battle reenactments at Bosworth. He has become as much a part of our history in the 500 years after his death as his was theirs.
Spudulike Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 I'm hoping that after this week attention is refocused on restoring St Mary de Castro. I'm not religious but the church is an architectural and historical gem and must be preserved. One of the 5 medieval churches within the City of Leicester. How many other cities can boast that !!
Parafox Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 I was slightly surprised to see it all being shown live on channel 4, including the "funeral". Slightly over the top was it not? It was. 2 hrs of live coverage. Jon Snow was struggling to find anything new to say and when they cut to the female reporter, she was worse. No offence, but she seemed to struggle to find any indigenous white persons to interview. We decided not to go into the City to watch so stood by the road at LFE with several hundred others all the way from Desford cross roads. The hearse went by at about 35 mph with police outriders. Bit of a let down really. I had hoped that there would be a bit more to see along the route.

Wait till they find out Leeds castle is in Kent.
Footballwipe Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 Glad I'm not the only one who found Soulsby's appearance there sickening. Probably held the cathedral and uni up by the balls on the procession in the city until they agreed to let him walk behind the coffin. An utter contemptuous media-whore and watching the coverage was genuinely tarnished seeing his faux stoney, serious face floating around. Any opportunity to be in the limelight.
Babylon Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 Thought I'd see what the local Yorkshire paper had to say (they ran a campaign against Leicester). Pretty much nothing but a short article. Main news story on their site is "Cross dressing robbers fire two shots"

Smudge Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 Richard's emblem was a white boar not a rose, Nige could have that on his track suit.
