kingcarr21 Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-31794823 Anybody going to be buying one? Price range from £299 to £13,500. Cant quite see the point of one to be honest.
bovril Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 Apple Watch, day 15. Granny Smiths still not moving.

Cant quite see the point of one to be honest. Nope... long time apple lover since the first macs but this will be the first thing they produce I'm not the slightest bit interested in buying. I have a phone in my pocket that already does most of the stuff this can do. It's unique features are just a bit gimmicky.
Jon the Hat Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 I think the price point is pretty good, but until we know what the apps are going to do hard to say how useful this is. There are some things I can see it being very handy for, apple pay / contactless, boarding cards etc, controlling music. Oh and telling the time. If it stops me picking up my phone when an email comes in that would be helpful. Obviously the expensive ones are to fleece the more money than sense brigade who will pay stupid money for something for the sake of no one else having it, so they are irrelevant to the conversation.
Finnegan Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 Apple Watch, day 15. Granny Smiths still not moving. I'm really glad I'm not the only one who read it like that.
Monk Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 Perhaps by release 2 or 3 it may start to get interesting, still a very early stage product right now, just like the iPad really. I can see the appeal but right now the functionality doesn't stack up for me.
Jimothy Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 Who wants a watch that you have to charge? I know it says 18 hours, but this is Apple, it'll never last 18 hours. Once you've spent most the day fiddling with it it'll be dead in 6-8.
DB11 Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 I've been thinking of getting a watch.. but I think I'll stick to a more designer analogue one If I was going to get a smart watch I'd probably opt for the Pebble
Carl the Llama Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 Thought this was gonna be about the imminent start of cider season. Alas it's about a pointless gadget for people with an excess of money and/or self-importance and a deficiency of common sense.
Fox92 Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 At this moment in time I don't want one (not that I could afford one anyway) but in the future as technology continues to evolve it may be an essential item to have. I doubt anybody would have predicted what mobile phones are capable of these days - from internet banking to buying train tickets on the go.
Brooksy Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 I enjoy checking how many likes my selfies have got and tag myself at nandos on a regular basis so this'll be perfect for me, cant wait
ousefox Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 I'm not a big fan of Apple usually but I do quite like the look of this. Seems useful, although I guess it would just mean using your phone less. I'll probably get one in a few years if they've been successful and developed further.
MooseBreath Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 They look crap. There's at least half a dozen much nicer Android watches out already with a much more mature app market. Apple just copying everyone else and doing it badly. Not that I'd buy any smart watch currently. They can't really do anything new yet, they're basically just small smartphones that you attach to your wrist instead of putting in your pocket. I'm waiting for next level fitness trackers to come out. I want to know my fvcking cholesterol levels while I'm eating a steak and shit like that.
Sir Fynwy Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 I bought a smartwatch to see if there was any point in having one, sold it within 2 weeks because it needed charging far too often and offered no major benefits, I'm pretty sure that there will never be a smartwatch that is worth the bother until one is capable of taking the place of a smartphone.
Stadt Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 You need an iphone to connect to it anyway, pointless.
Fox92 Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 Have I Got News For You made a joke out of it as with everything. Their tweet was quality
Jon the Hat Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 Ah yes, judgement of people who might enjoy a bit of technology on their wrist. Personally I don't care if people want to wear one or not, it doesn't make them a willy puller or a bellend, just someone who thinks gadgets are cool.
Jon the Hat Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 How they laughed at the iPad! A tablet computer? Don't be ridiculous. I also saw an article the other day from 20 years ago laughing at the idea that the internet could possible do anything important.
Webbo Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 I also saw an article the other day from 20 years ago laughing at the idea that the internet could possible do anything important. I'm not sure this forum is the best place to argue against that.

Samilktray Posted 10 March 2015 Posted 10 March 2015 The gold iPhone was bad. But gold Macbooks are an abomination.
