Benji Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 Pretty disgraceful from the BBC as well today.... He's not asleep at all, he's actually partially deaf and was listening to the speaker next to him so he can hear the debate, they have apologised but how can an organisation of that size and responsibility get something so wrong? Tories hate the disabled innit.
johnny the fox Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 People like frank field and margaret beckett should take a good look at themselves for voting for Corbyn to get on the ballot.. A disastrous self indulgence to placate the "broad church" brigade ,how so called smart experienced politicians could so miscalculate is beyond me. I suppose there is no fool like an old fool. but they will be in the lords when the shight hits the fan no doubt..

The BBC have managed to issue a short apology now, for what it's worth. http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/sep/15/bbc-apologises-after-suggesting-partially-deaf-tory-mp-had-fallen-asleep

To be fair, he defo looks asleep! I could also argue the BBC have done nothing wrong - whether he is awake/ asleep deaf hearing - they have reported its going viral and said he was resting his eyes - which are closed. Edit: Meant to add at the end that even im not that naive!
Guest MattP Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 The BBC have managed to issue a short apology now, for what it's worth. http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/sep/15/bbc-apologises-after-suggesting-partially-deaf-tory-mp-had-fallen-asleep Poor bloke, sits there until 10pm listening to all the speeches and the nation's state broadcaster decides to smear him as being asleep, shameful but hardly surprising.
Jon the Hat Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 Fed up with this anti-MP shit now. Oooh he claimed 9p on expenses! Who gives a shit. You wanted them to put in place processes to make sure their expenses had an audit trail and they did. Oooh he bought a sofa for his poxy flat in London! You expect him to sit on the floor? Christ, talk about a lack of perspective. Even if he was asleep, and I m sure some of them do fall asleep, perhaps the comment should be "hard working MPs in parliament until 10pm on important union reform debate"
Carl the Llama Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 Jon doing a good impression of everyone's disgruntled grandfather grumbling off on a tangent to the conversation in the room.
Merging Cultures Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 Jon doing a good impression of everyone's disgruntled grandfather grumbling off on a tangent to the conversation in the room. He's not wrong though.
The Blur Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 Tories hate the disabled innit. Voters elected him not Tories themselves.
Claridge Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 Poor bloke, sits there until 10pm listening to all the speeches and the nation's state broadcaster decides to smear him as being asleep, shameful but hardly surprising. Why should anyone have to pay a licence fee in this day and age.
yorkie1999 Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 Why should anyone have to pay a licence fee in this day and age. Its not the fact you have to pay for a license, its the fact you have to pay for a license for content that is atrocious, how can they justify paying Gary Lineker and Graham the leaping leprechaun nonce Norton 2 million a year for programs that are on at 10.30pm. There's no comedy shows anymore just repeats of stuff from 30 years ago and hardly any live sport because they can't afford it because they're paying their staff too much. Its a flamin disgrace!
Guest MattP Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 Graham the leaping leprechaun nonce Norton is the best thing I've read on here for a while.
Rincewind Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 I actually agree with that MattP. Keep this thread non-political.

No disagreement here, the budget for them could be significantly better handled. That being said, I like the idea of at least one news media in the UK not being commercial, as media that exists to sell itself tends to make sure there are news stories that will sell...which does naturally lend itself to embellishment of truth to make sure that happens.

Keep radio ,a news channel and save us all £100.00 by binning the rest.

You know, I wouldn't actually mind it if they ditched their entertainment wing entirely and focussed purely on news and sport. I mean, who the fvck would miss Eastenders?

Rincewind Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 I watch it but more of an habit than eagerness to watch it. Watched it from the start. Not as good but they do cover some sensitive issues on occasions which may help people. But I would not miss it if it ended. I must be a cretin then Wookie.

You ought to get out more. The BBC content is possibly the best in the world. You should be praising one of the greatest corporations in the world, honoured throughout the world. Typically small minded English reaction

The Blur Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 Don't you think the people who voted him in were tories then? Why not? Tories supporters on a whole are far more compassionate to disabled people than the MPs themselves- just look at MattP for an example.
