Right, time to ask again... Vardy for England?

It really depends how serious his injury is and how long it will take to recover from any surgery. I'm not going to stop him going, but it will need to be considered from a medical point of view.

He's said it will not get any worse, he just needs rest over the summer. So a couple of games wouldn't hurt.

I still think England will just go with three strikers and it won't come to it unless someone else gets injured anyway.

Worse case scenario is he gets called up but never makes it on the pitch delaying his treatment, obviously if he gets called up I would be made up for him, but in the usual club vs country debate club comes out on top every time, so I was surprised nobody had mentioned, but it seems people put Vardy ahead of club. Wonder if the club think the same.

We will see, if it does happen great for him, if it doesn't then he can put his feet up and start looking for that elusive Welsh ancestor.

I would absolutely love any player getting a call up for England.

There is no doubt in my mind that Hodgson will still pick Welbeck andor Lambert instead though, despite them not playing much.

It would be MASSIVE for him if he did get a shot at it & I think he would be explosive.

If he was played in the same system as we are playing (which I doubt) then he would be useful. 2nd most assists in the Premiership so far is a great stat to take out, for any player!

Not overly keen on the idea of one of our players playing for England tbh.

I am.

If we've got players in England squads then it means they are playing well for us which is good for Leicester City

Tbh I don't really care about England, my tribalism ends at the counties borders. IF he were to play in these fixtures and play really well, (we've already fended off bids for him in January) then it has the possibility (however unlikely) of turning his head. He's been playing with an injury, would rather he had a nice long break before pre season so he can be guaranteed to be at his best for us come the first game next season. Selfish as it may be, obviously be absolutely fantastic for the lad to get a cap given where he's come from, just would rather he stayed solely focused on Leicester City.

Until the big clubs buy them off us lol

Question is whether Vardy would want to leave - and I don't think he would after the 2012/2013-2013/14 summer: Pearson showed a lot of faith in him them to persuade him to stick at the sport when it seemed like he couldn't make the step up, I think with such a supportive manager and having finally settled after a difficult period, he'd be wary of tearing that all up.

I think a lot of folks on this thread are confusing a possible cap for Vardy with him being considered part of Englands top XI.

National teams have pools of players that are invited to camps and, just like clubs, will try out players in friendlies. With that in mind, it's perfectly reasonable for Hogdson to consider Vardy.

Over the last seven matches, however, few English forwards are playing better than Mr. Vardy.

If he can replicate the form he's showed in the last 7 games over a longer period of time, then I'm sure he'll get a call up to the squad and may even see some pitch time.

Same with Ulloa for Argentina, their boss said after banged in the goals early season that if he can keep it up, he'll receive the recognition. However, he never kept it up. But now the side is firing again, who knows if he can hold form, not just for 5 or 7 games, but for 20 or 30... which is really what it takes!

He would cause more problems than a lot of English strikers and I think would offer something different. Could be perfect foil for someone like Rooney with his workrate, closing down and pace beating a man.

Why not?

I know the journo whose wrote that through a work mate, I will get him doing some digging to see if there's any truth in it.

Spoke to him, certainly being considered (Hodgson was watching out for him) but still sees it as unlikely. A good performance in the next two games would give a strong case.

As much as I'd love him to get a call up, I don't think he'd be able to do what he does for us for England. International defenders are stronger and quicker, so the likes of Ramos, Pique et al would deal with someone as direct as he is really easily. However, he is potentially a good player for the closing stages of a match when players are tired he can potentially exploit that.

He won't be playing agianst Ramos or Pique - this is more an option for the next couple of international matches.

I dismissed it originally but his pace and work ethic would be a great asset and let's be honest the England team is pretty average these days anyway.

There are a few sides to this argument:

FOR

1.) His pace scares players. It doesn't matter what level you're playing at, pace is lethal.

2.) There's not much choice. The younger strikers look likely to be going off to the U21 tournament; that leaves Rooney and Welbeck and to be honest, they don't always play up front. Most games you see Rooney at CAM and Welbeck on the wing.

3.) He's energetic. My biggest complaint with the England squad is the lack of energy in the play. It's fair to say that lacklustre, tired performances are not common with Jamie Vardy.

AGAINST

1.) This may seem harsh but also true: He's not good enough. For all the energy, passion and pace, there are unforgettable moments of inadequacy. Take for example the Southampton game where he didn't look up and put Mahrez through on goal. That has happened a couple of times this season and you'd expect your England international to be capable of making the killer pass.

2.) Charlie Austin. I can't see Vardy getting in the England team ahead of Charlie Austin. Maybe they will both get called up but I'm pretty sure Austin, the younger, goal-scoring striker, would take priority.

3.) This is a very cynical view but it should probably be considered: Is there any point? Vardy is 28 and will probably never even be in contention after the summer when others are available.

Don't think he's good enough to be a permanent international whatsoever. However, the current situation may lead to him getting a cap with strikers at the U21s, injuries etc... meaning Hodgson's choices are a lot slimmer. As the in form striker with pace and double digit assists(?) it seems he may not be far off a call up.

According to Squawka it's 8 assists for the season. Level with Oscar, Hazard, Sanchez, Navas and Downing.

Didnt he play for Chile instead or something?

As a Leicester fan I love Jamie Vardy - but he is nowhere near good enough for England. He doesn't score enough, doesn't look up enough and lacks composure. I don't have a problem with these deficiencies in his game as they are the reason that he is playing for us rather than a top 4 team (similar to Fryatt lacking pace or Schlupp lacking composure and a final ball).

If you include penalties won he's on 12. Joint 2nd in the league with Di Maria. Fabregas top on 19.

Regardless of whether you think winning penalties is an assist or not that is a phenomenal achievement for him , and he's probably only played 3/4 of our games

I'm not sure I understand how anybody can justify Vardy NOT being good enough for England. He's one of the most in form footballers in the world at present. Probably THE most in form Englishmen.

He doesn't have the skills of a typical international striker playing for a country in the top 30 of the FIFA list, but anyone discounting Vardy an England chance doesn't know Roy Hodgson.

He fits Hodgson's work ethic perfectly and I can see why Roy would be looking at Vardy.

At the World Cup last year Hodgson played Welbeck, Rooney and Sterling in that weird "flowing" shape behind Sturridge - with Henderson and Gerrard between them and the back four.

Even when we played a second string against Costa Rica – after we'd already been eliminated – he still stuck to the formation.

If he sticks to the 4-2-3-1 formation, it is easy to see how he likes the idea of a Vardy coming on for the last 15 minutes as an impact player – to put the tired legs of opposition defenders to the test. Plenty of positions he can come on for - lone striker or one of those three supporting forwards.

Vardy wins penalties - and will do so especially with international referees. Hodgson will know this thanks to his vast experience.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Vardy would be a world beater - far from it - but I can see why Hodgson might consider him, purely as a bit-part player for a very specific role.

Not saying i'd throw him straight into the England starting 11, but he'd be a handy player to have on the bench. England don't really have a player like him.
