Wymsey Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 Might make Inler's future here more in doubt, considering the rumour that he wants to go on-loan.
Babylon Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 Great to see him making a return, an understated but very important player for us over the last few years.
Ric Flair Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 He's a decent player but he's nowhere near as good defensively as Kante and nowehere near as creative as Drinkwater. Great squad player to have though and if Inler wants to go to AC Milan then straight swap for Honda please.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 I'd say Drinkwater at his best is better than James at his best, but James very rarely has an off-day. He's very consistent and a great asset to the squad Tends to share the same trait with Drinkwater by enjoying taking a wild shot from 20-30 yards out every now and then and near enough never on target!
The Horse's Mouth Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 Think I still rate James over Drinkwater, but if Drinky keeps up how he's been playing this season and doesn't drop off like he's done before then I think he'll just get it. I've no doubt James will work his way back in sooner or later.
Bayfox Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 James may struggle to make the 1st 11 now. But if Kante needs a rest at any point he's the most likely replacement. Hope he comes back somewhere close the the player he was.

He's got very little creativity though has James and if you compare him to Kante as a defensive midfielder then it's easy to see why you'd go with Kante and Drinkwater. James and Kante would offer us very little as supply to our attackers.
Viva Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 He's definitely not good enough to break up our current midfield. I think he's more of a top end championship player.
Leeds Fox Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 He's definitely not good enough to break up our current midfield. I think he's more of a top end championship player. I'd definitely say he's capable of cutting it in the prem. At the minute, he's not better than either of our current pair, but he'd definitely improve one of the bottom clubs.
goose2010 Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 I would send him out on loan with a recall in Jan, He is a class player on his day but I don't think he would hit the ground running again in the prem needs game time first.
AKCJ Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 He's going to be an absolute steal for someone wanting a midfielder for a couple of months in Jan. Few months loan then come back to keep our weary squad at the top of the league.
kingfox Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 Our most underrated player and in my opinion one of the most underrated English footballers in the Prem. Well worth going to the U21's tonight to see Matty play.
fuchsntf Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 No. An onform Drinkwater & an onform James, DD starts for me every time. Opinions, Last 2 seasons I prefered James. Until James gets underway, and shows his fresh new form, we cant judge either way. Let the guy have some game time, before making unqualified basic comments. So with Inler, James, Kante, D.Drinkwater, King, it still shouldnt stop City investing in a top midfield player, if the door opens and gives us that improvement we are searching for.

I can't think of any games when they have both played that DD was far better, but you could be just about right. I'd say James is more consistent and he doesn't hit the lows Drinky does from time to time. If James was fit I'm pretty sure he would be starting on Saturday. DD was as bad as I've ever seen him last time out. In fact, he was should be benched for Saturday, King deserves be given a start he's looked good whenever he's been on.
Foxymcoxy Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 James + Kante would not be nearly as effective in attack as Drinky + Kante and Drinky + James would be worse at winning the ball back. There is an argument that he is better than DD but I don't see him forming a better partnership with anyone than what we've got atm.

How about the Championship winning season when Drinkwater was our best player?
My Nads Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 How about the Championship winning season when Drinkwater was our best player? Drinky grabbed the headlines in our Championship year and was a crowd favourite, but if we were more objective James wasn't far behind. More importantly James upped his game last year, but it's taken DD a whole season to make the step up. Just give James a chance before dismissing him. I don't see the argument about him not being as good playing with Kante. He might be better alone side Kante who's to say.

I seem to remember him missing a lot of chances and didn't contribute loads in our upturn in form compared to other players. e.g King
Guest kristianity77 Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 James injury couldn't really have come at a worse time for him personally. Like others have said, where does he fit in now? Coming off the bench for the last 10 minutes or so for fresh legs in the centre is about as good as its going to get for him I feel when he is match fit. I don't see who he can displace in this side. Hes got the same problem as Inler has. Realistically, its only going to be an injury or ban which sees him get any significant game time from here on in. I can see him being out the door to be honest sooner rather than later, which is a shame, because he is a decent player, but he is surplus to requirements as it stands.

I seem to remember him missing a lot of chances and didn't contribute loads in our upturn in form compared to other players. e.g King James was great until his injury and he doesn't get enough credit. He's played as a DM in the past, but it's not his role. He will be great along side a Kante, so lets see him play as a CM where he's at his best. I don't mean to knock Drinky in any way (unless he plays like last weekend) but I don't get the negativity towards James either.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 I must be the only one who thinks he's rubbish.
Fox92 Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 I must be the only one who thinks he's rubbish. I don't think he's rubbish but I don't seem to rate him as much as others in this thread.
Viva Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 We were bottom of the table for most of the season and I don't think James was a standout player.
Viva Posted 2 December 2015 Posted 2 December 2015 I must be the only one who thinks he's rubbish. I'd say very average!
