Matty James - Come Back Soon

It is amazing how the Vardy who played in that match against QPR is the same Vardy who has hit 13 in 11.

I've never seen a transformation like it. Since erm Vardy in 13/14 from 12/13  :D

Even so this one is far more dramatic.

Haha the wank being touted in this thread is ridiculous, some people have short memories. If Kante gets injured or someone buys him in the summer Matty automatically comes into the side for me, showed he is the perfect foil for any more advanced midfield partner over the years. Like Kante he just lets his mate play better.

I don't want to be in the Europa league next season. CL yes, europa no. We've not got the depth and our pl form would go to crap.

Europe is what you make of it. If you go into it with the right attitude, which I think we would, it would be a great adventure. I don't think we'd get relegated, so for a club the size of ours at the minute, the Europe league has to be our aim! ( along with possible domestic success) do understand where you're coming from though

I can remember last season and I still didn't see much from him. In the end of season player ratings based based on the votes from on here in each match, he was rated as our 12th best player with an average score per game of under 6. That's about right - Average.

It depends on what our ambitions are now for the future. If we want to try and kick on and be a consistent top half team, then I think we need better quality than him. He is fine as a back up player, but not a starter in my opinion.

James wasn't outstanding last season but we are comparing him with Cambiasso last season, and Kante this season.

He is as good as King, and *possibly* as good as Inler right now, so its not outrageous to think he should have a place on the bench.

It would be a mistake to sell him for sure, because we don't know how good he is with the benefit of playing with a seasons experience of the Premier League. Not only that, but he might be capable of doing what Drinkwater is doing but better.

We have fierce competition in midfield that's for sure.

James and Kingy will make a cracking centre midfield pairing for the Europa league next season.

Provided they're both still at the club next season and fully fit and running, they'd surely make a decent back-up midfield duo. No debate there.

I think it's a shame people are writing off Matty James already. He's a guy that's phsyically strong, technically dceent, always gives 100%, and a mentally strong lad. Also seems general good bloke to have around the squad. We've seen him improve year upon year, and I'd not be in any way surprised to see James force his way into the starting line-up.

Far too good a player to let go on loan!

would happily send him to forest or wolves or somewhere for a month when the windows open to play 4 or 5 games in 4 weeks and then he'll start making our bench. wouldn't even think about any loan to buy or longer loan or even worse selling him just because he got injured.

Christ, everyone was looking forward to James returning and knocking Inler down the pecking order yet when his recovery seems to have stepped up a gear, he's suddenly not good enough.

I'll say this about any player on the fringes of this team, that until they've played a few games we shouldn't judge them. Not one player is performing worse this year than last. There's been improvement across the board with those that WE always knew had a bit of quality now being recognised nationally.

So it comes down to either one, two or a combination of these things that resulted in this. Either they're all over-achieving, which is unlikely, or that they are now fulfilling their true potential. Whatever it os, I'm sure if/when James gets his chance in this team he'll also do exactly the same.

Stats can show quite a lot of things...

Don't bring up the stats thing again! lol

I did that last season to my detriment!

The stats show that Cambiasso and James were our best and most consistent midfielders last year in several areas. Backs up what I thought last season.

That doesn't show a great deal. Stats similar to King really. I see you didn't add goals. One assist from James all season doesn't make him the great creator either. At the end of the day the stats for most of the midfield last season wouldn't have been great.

I prefer to use my eyes. You can't say he had a great season.

And that James was the better one (stats wise). Which is what I said last season.

But that's past...what would be interesting is to compare those stats last season with those of the current midfielders THIS season. Is that possible?

The biggest positive of James' return to fitness is we do have the option of the Drinkwater/James combination again if it is needed. So successful in the 13/14 season. That with the brilliance of Kanté who should be starting every game, King and Inler we have very good strength in depth in central midfield.

James isn't quick enough to replace Kante. We are playing with a fast paced style at the minute and both Drinkwater and Kante are at the heart of that. It's been a while, and I do like Matt James, but he was never exactly the fastest and certainly not box to box which Kante provides.

James is quite like Hammond - forward-thinking, consistent and likes to 'clean up' (tidy player) situations in the middle.

Posted

Whose gonna give way to him?

No one at the moment but he was excellent for us last season, imo, and its just great to have him back in contention.

Posted

I think James could be just who we need to come off the bench to help close out a game; he's a physically strong player who makes safe plays.

Posted

He'll play his part over the next few years.

He's never played every game anyway.

24 in his first season

35 in his second season

27 last season.
