Bamba's Babes Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 I'm not all that excited by his return, I see him as our 5th CM.
sdb Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 Matty is a tidy player. I'm convined we have 3 of the top 5 box to box midfield players in the league with him, Kante and Drinky. Other two are Yaya and Alli. That's a bold statement!! I'm not even sure any of them are really 'box to box' midfielders. Certainly not many goals to suggest so!
VLC86 Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 Have we had a decent goal scoring midfielder since Joey? Obviously King has bagged a lot for a midfielder. Struggling to think of another though. Yeah I can't think of another, especially not an Algerian Messi type guy who plays in midfield. Nope, not since Gudjonson.
Tuna Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 I'm not all that excited by his return, I see him as our 5th CM. Agreed.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 20 years on the game hath rendered matty james unpleaseurable to mine eye
dylanlegend Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 I'm not all that excited by his return, I see him as our 5th CM. Last season he was ahead of Drinky and King. People writing him off just as they did with Drinky. He's a good Midfielder, from what I've seen in a LCFC shirt he should be ahead of Inler and maybe King, although Kingy is more offensive and James is more defensive
Clever Fox Posted 9 January 2016 Posted 9 January 2016 James was quality in our Championship season, I was really looking forward to see how he'd perform in the Premiership. I accept it will take him a while to get up to match speed, but I hope he hasn't piled on the lard while out injured. As I think he has the quality to make it in the Premiership.
EnglishOxide Posted 26 January 2016 Posted 26 January 2016 I'd be shocked to see him on the pitch for us this season. He will only make the bench in the event of two injuries in centre mid.
Koke Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 Is James better than King though? Honestly. Watching King away at Liverpool was painful. He's done alright coming on as a sub a few times but starting him in a 2 man midfield is awful to watch. When James comes back he'll be 4th or 5th choice.
Swarles Barkley Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 People have short memories on this forum. James was arguably just as good as drinky in our championship season and was definitely better than him last season. He is a very good player and better than king so looking forward to having him back whenever that may be.
It'sblueupnorth Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 James was never quick but from highlights of the u21s games he's played in he's looked really sluggish imo, not many can come back from 3(?) knee ligament injuries. Can't see him getting back in if I'm honest, see him as 6th choice now.

m4DD0gg Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 This guy is going to really struggle to get back in first team. Can see him gone in 12 months.
gurru991 Posted 27 January 2016 Posted 27 January 2016 This guy is going to really struggle to get back in first team. Can see him gone in 12 months. I have to agree, it's going to be a struggle for him. I think some loan time in the Championship would be huge for him.

Andy King is streets ahead of James in my opinion. Several times this season he's been superb. He was when he came on vs Chelsea and at the start of the season when he played a lot more he was an important player for us. He's reliable.

I don't think James will get much of a look in unfortunately. King is good as cover. He's not great but did well in a 3 man midfield last season.

Disagree with this, James has more presence, a bit more dynamic and is just as tidy. Don't understand why people have suddenly stopped rating him, possibly because he's been out a while and we have done very well since, but that doesn't make him less of a player. He's ahead of Inler and King when on form for me

foxtillidrop Posted 28 January 2016 Posted 28 January 2016 When Matty James is 100% fit, I would put him in the team ahead of Andy King every time. The partnership between Matty James and Danny Drinkwater was instrumental in getting us out of the Championship. I would like to see how we play with a 3 man midfield of James, Drinkwater and Kante although I appreciate that it probably won't happen this season. Fair play to King though, he did the job when called upon during the Chelsea game at home. I would love to see him perform like he did in his early Championship days though his role seems to have changed over the years.
Long Eaton Fox Posted 28 January 2016 Author Posted 28 January 2016 Matty James - Brilliant when getting us promoted alongside DD Matty James - Brilliant when saving us from relegation alongside EC Very short memories from a lot of people. Come back soon Matty James!!!
