Nalis Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 I assume it would go to head to head with Newcastle's 6-2 2-3 nudging them ahead.
Alf Bentley Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Novelty fact: Going into the final match of the season, only 3 clubs know what position they're going to finish in: Leicester, Sunderland & Villa.
katieakita Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Hopefully Sky will have cameras everywhere, If Spuds don't win an Arsenal win takes it down to goal difference Spurs are +13 on Arsenal but Arsenal have the trump card of playing Villa.

That would be hilarious, wouldn't it? If Spurs gained a hard-fought draw at St. James' Park, but lost out on goal difference after Arsenal thrashed Villa 13-0.

What??? I think Spuds are a safe runner up I can't see any team in this league overturning a 10 to 12 goal difference. Not even the mighty foxes!

Guest Col city fan Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 I should say that although I criticize Sunderland, I'll not say a bad word about Big Sam. One of football's best characters and he's very good at what he does. As for Norwich, they deserve to go down. Their strikeforce is one of the worst in prem history - Bamford, Embo Carney, Jerome and Naismith & previously Hooper. Just woeful. Fook sake..so you follow football? Embo Carney! lol
Donut Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 There is absolutely no way, no way on EARTH that Newcastle squad should be getting relegated, its an absolute shambles. If they get a half decent manager in, and Pearson would be an excellent choice, they could monster the championship and score 105 points. Its beyond belief for me theyve gone down, just in terms of talent.
norwichfox Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Yeah happy for Sam, always liked him. Living in Norfolk and the Norwich fans I know are so delusional! I live in Norwich and my son's a Norwich fan and my Son in Law and grandson are Villa fans and grandson an ST holder. My son is driving me to the victory parade, so I guess it'll be a very frosty journey, cos I'll be bringing up events throughout the season during the journey...both ways
Tuna Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Reports coming through that Roberto Martinez has been sacked. This amuses me greatly.
HEGGSY Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Martinez sacked. Long time coming. They are ****ing wan, and that's being kind.
Dan Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Yep official confirmation everywhere. Inevitable really. All looked so bright for him at first but it's gotten more and more shambolic as it's gone on. They'd have gone down next year if they still had him. Looked more out of his depth by the game.
Wymsey Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 I don't know what Everton fans expect. They were alright under Martinez initially but, after a few losses pressure then mounted. Newcastle would be an excellent prospect for him though.

Ahh filtering through on twitter and beeb now... out before the awards makes sense really.
Koke Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 I don't know what Everton fans expect. They were alright under Martinez initially but, after a few losses pressure then mounted. Newcastle would be an excellent prospect for him though. It wasn't just a few losses though. 2 consecutive seasons in the bottom half of the league with a 20 goal striker in the side. 4, yes 4, home wins since last year April. They've conceded 3 goals or more to 11 clubs this season. These are some shocking stats. Everton are not some tinpot club, and Martinez is nowhere near good enough for them. He's a fraud. He's managed 7 seasons in the Premier League and have only had had 1 top half finish. I wouldn't want Martinez near our club. If he took over us now he'd take us down within 2 years.

Their strikeforce is one of the worst in prem history - Bamford, Embo Carney, Jerome and Naismith & previously Hooper. Just woeful. I agree with the Norwich fans bit. I work with a few, and pre season they were saying they would finish top 8! Thought their squad was easily good enough from previous p league experience. A couple said we would be relegated, probably pulling my leg, but I kept quiet, and as each week passed kept smiling to myself . Don't understand why they kept Bassong, after seeing JV skin him so easily , and he looked shaky every game. Anyway, I've got the bragging rights for another year!
Donut Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Martinez was the best thing sinced sliced bread when he was in his first season with the club, and then it all went badly wrong. The Everton fans have expressed some fickle opinions though. I remember watching the full time devils channel on youtube, the day of the game Everton beat Man Utd and then Moyes was subsequently sacked. Fans were singing the praises of John Stones, condemming the football played by Moyes given the style Martinez' team was playing with, commenting how much game time Martinez was giving to the likes of Stones and Barkley. Fast forward to now, a fair few fans want Moyes back for the solidity he gave, condemming players like Stones for overplaying and making mistakes, and bemoaning the way they cant see games out. The grass isnt always greener, and maybe Moyes deserved even more credit for building Everton to where they were without having the likes of Lukaku to call upon.
kingfox Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Seems De Boer might take over Everton, hopefully he can replicate what Koeman has done at Southampton and get Everton back amongst the top six.
Zola Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 yes, Martinez is out, and De Boer quit Ajax also today.. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/roberto-martinez-everton-sack-manager-ahead-of-final-game-of-season-a7025981.html i wonder if Nigel is as good as some say, why he would not be offered a job like this? I prefer Koeman or Benitez any day...
Leicesterpool Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 I remember Villa were after Martinez once but he didn't them down, he's avaliable now so that's one name Villa could be considering. However I can see Martinez more like going to Newcastle.
foxfanazer Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Can't say I'm surprised after sitting in the away end last saturday. The fans were at their wits end and the players had clearly downed tools. I was surprised however at the vitriol directed at players like Barkley and Lukaku. Ok Lukaku has made it pretty clear he wants to move onto bigger things but wwithout his goals this season they'd have gone down. And as for Barkley, i thought he was massively overrated by Everton fans but apparently he has an attitude problem. They should look to someone like Koeman imo but will probably reappoint moyes
Fox92 Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 No surprise Martinez has gone. Players have gone backwards under him and with that squad he should be pushing top 10.
Guest Col city fan Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Martinez epitomizes the modern day. Image over substance. He talks a good game but actually most of it is bull-shite. His teams and how he gets them performing is rarely anything akin to what he's saying in interviews etc. I actually DONT think players like Lukaku and Barkley are over-rated footballers. I think they have the potential to be exceptional footballers. But not under Martinez. I'd like us to sign big Romelu. As a striker, I think he's got everything. But only in the right team, for the right manager AND for the right price. Image over substance...a feature of the modern day..and Martinez. And also why those outside the LCFC community have grown to love us. We have turned it upside down. We are substance over image.
Wymsey Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 Newcastle need to cling onto Townsend and Shelvey, as I think they're too good for the Championship. Bet they're p'eed off now.
Raw Dykes Posted 12 May 2016 Posted 12 May 2016 yes, Martinez is out, and De Boer quit Ajax also today.. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/roberto-martinez-everton-sack-manager-ahead-of-final-game-of-season-a7025981.html i wonder if Nigel is as good as some say, why he would not be offered a job like this? I prefer Koeman or Benitez any day... I'm a huge fan of Pearson, but I don't think the Everton job would suit him, at least in this moment in time. I don't think he'd be seriously considered for it, either. I expect chairmen of most established PL clubs would look at last season and remember the bizarre press conferences and the fact we were rock bottom for months, which is fair enough. NP is tailor made for the Villa or Newcastle job. They've both been run into the ground, much like we had been when he arrived. NP's main strength is that he'll stop the rot, strip the paint back to bare metal, and put solid foundations in place (how's that for an analogy cocktail?). That's exactly what those two clubs need. Sure, he has his limitations. He's no master tactician, and he's ultra-defensive with the press, but we've seen what he can do with a decent-sized club at its lowest ebb first hand. I don't think Everton is anywhere near as far gone as Villa or Newcastle. I reckon they already have enough good players to do much better under a different manager.
