Robin JD Popley Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 Have just seen we are linked in today's Mercury with a move to bring Gareth back home. He's on a free this summer. Okay, he may be 35 now but perhaps a year deal? Never wanted to see him leave the first time around but understood why he left.
Woollett's Wellies Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 Really? http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/west-bromwich-albion-fc/2015/06/08/leicester-looking-to-snatch-gareth-mcauley/
Woollett's Wellies Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 Just noticed Robin beat me by 2 minutes. Mods please delete as required
Aus Fox Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 Yes please, great option for a free lots of experience.
lcfcsnow Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 If that's the calibre of player we're after you can't go aim for a top 10 finish, never rated him last time he was here but the fact he was part of our worst ever side didn't help.
foxfanazer Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 No we need a younger centre back if we sign Huth too.
sylofox Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 I hope there is no truth in this. I would not touch this with a barge pole would rather sign Huth. Watch Pulis put in a bit now if this is true
Tuna Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 Oh dear we need to move on from these sort of signings, spend some money.
Ric Flair Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 I don't see the point. There's enough experience in Wasilewski, Morgan and hopefully Huth. We need a younger and quicker centre half to come in and compliment what we've already got.
Daveaway Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 no need would rather have a hungry young defender, rather than someone who will want a years pay check, look at Upsom, I know he was injured but did he really bring anything to the table?
cc_star Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 All these CBs being floated is making me worry about Huth Come on, Huth would be the signing of the summer, make it happen Top/Whelan/Rudkin COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Babylon Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 If we are going to play 3 at the back we need 5 centre backs as a minimum. Wes Was Huth Moore McAuley Would have no problem with that at all.
Max Power Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 Could see it if the Huth deal isn't happening. Experienced Premier League defender for another. Otherwise I'd rather not. Find someone better and younger.
Captain... Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 If we are going to play 3 at the back we need 5 centre backs as a minimum. Wes Was Huth Moore McAuley Would have no problem with that at all. I would rather RDL as the fifth option, or even fourth ahead of Moore he looked good in that role when he played there, think we can attract better than McAuley, he would be ok as cover if picked up for free, but hopefully we pick up Huth and then someone younger and better to start ahead of Was, we don't want another Dad's army. New signing, Wes, Huth first choice, Was, RDL, Moore back up.
TOMBlcfc Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 Would rather not on first hearing tbh but if nige thinks it would be good then i'll go with it. Huth must still be the top priority though!!!
Nick Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 Not inspiring but as an Upson replacement I could see it I suppose.
TrentFox Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 As a squad player, he would a be a very good acquisition. His aerial ability, especially at attacking set-pieces, would be a great addition. Let's not forget that, as it stands, either Upson or Moore is starting our next game if we play 3 CBs.
Jimothy Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 If it as a direct replacement for Upson, i.e an experienced defender in his mid 30's who not expecting to play much but can come in a do a decent job when called on, then great. If it's instead of Huth, I'm worried.
LCCFox96 Posted 8 June 2015 Posted 8 June 2015 I'd imagine he'd want to stay at West Brom. I can't see a 35 year old wanting to up sticks at a club where he is playing regularly, is popular with the fans and has a new deal on the table from an established PL manager who is keen to keep him. Seems too much of a risk to leave that all behind for a one year deal elsewhere. I don't think we'd even be linked with him if he wasn't out of contract anyway, I think this is a free agent being linked to any other PL club story.
