AmarteyAndChill Posted 7 May 2017 Posted 7 May 2017 Liverpool added about 10,000 new seats at Anfield &it took just over a summer?

Could have a public swimming pool also, to replace St Margaret's Rumoured to be 100% renewable energy, theyre calling it the "King Power Flower Power Tower"
Quorndon_Fox Posted 7 May 2017 Posted 7 May 2017 Think they'll sort the membership out first and see what demand then looks like. agreed though that we need at least 42k so we're not having to keep adding on every few years. If only we'd built this in the first place.....

Have you ever been to an away ground like Villa park, Etihad, London stadium where fans are split over two tiers? The atmosphere usually is dire as one tier can't sing with the other as it can't bloody hear it. Plus they are behind the lower tier and not like the old double decker style stands where they're directly above. Thats why Spurs new ground is having one single tier behind a goal, just like the Westfalenstadion There's a reason why they're not two tiered.

I am inclined to agree - particularly about Spurs looking to emulate the 'Yellow Wall'... I don't share your view of Villa Park though. Although The Holte End is not as formidable as the old single terrace/kop it's still a brilliant stand and every time I've visited - even last season - it was both loud and intimidating.

The people in the double decker were not the type to sing. Also the low roof must play a part in our kop being recorded as the loudest. When other kops held twice as many but had high roofs.

To some extent, but given the fickle nature of Spurs support you want to at least be designing a stadium that lends itself to or is conducive to creating an atmosphere. Upton Park was worth a minimum 12 points a season in my opinion, look what has happened by transplanting the same fans into the sterile environs of the London Stadium. Roker for example was always louder than The Stadium of Light.

This would be the dream, however with Safe standing not being implemented and the amount of moaning you'd get from existing season ticket holders in the kop I cants see it ever happening.

That's kind of my point they don't build two tiers like the double decker off old, different atmosphere and character to the ground, now second tiers are back further with much higher roofs.

So because others don't have it we have to follow like sheep. If we are spending money let's at least be unique. The last thing I want to see is a bigger bowl ffs.

It won't - but as discussed earlier it was the inspiration for the blueprints of the new White Hart Lane.

I don't want to go from a blue St Marys to a blue Stadium of Light. I want something unique that we can be proud of. Also expanding the Kop solidifies it as the home 'end', attacking and extended version in the second half every game would be great. Also more tifo room.
AKCJ Posted 8 May 2017 Posted 8 May 2017 A new stadium won't necessarily mean a poor atmosphere for Spurs. They just need to ensure that there is at least one big area full of likeminded fans who want to sing and cause a racket. They need to advertise that the big stand behind the goal will be the area for singing. If they do what West Ham did and just let everyone sit where they want then it will result in a shit atmosphere.

Unfortunately fans rarely organise themselves and the club rarely dedicates a certain area (especially new grounds) to those who wish to sing. They just wait to moan about it later. You would hope that those who choose the large 1 tier stand will do so because want to create an atmosphere, guess we'll see.

I think people will read between the lines. Spurs have already said that stand is being built to a specification where it could be changed to rail seating when it becomes legal, plus the equivalent stand at WHL stands up at the moment.

Yep, hope that happens, you just wonder if all the fans buying tickets for that stand will be aware.
SemperEadem Posted 8 May 2017 Posted 8 May 2017 Can anyone with a better memory than me tell me how the club marketed the kop when we moved grounds? Did they want it to be an area for the vocal support or were they behind a break away i.e L1?

They definitely marketed the Kop as, 'The noisy area' and tried to push singers and the old SK1/2/3 STH's to move there.

From my memory they wanted existing kopites to move to the new one, however people quickly realised with the relocating of away fans that meant if you wanted to keep that banter side of things, moving to L1, I think L1 was organised by fans or just happened by choice, the club didn't play any part. However I think it clearly split the old SK1, I very rarely see any of the faces who I used to stand in with in SK1 in the Kop, I know a few are still in there, but probably chose to move behind the goal so SK2 etc and a lot of others opted for L1. essentially the moving of grounds split our core noise into smaller fractions.Dotted about, as some opted for a better view, others to be near the away fans and myself and my mates still went for the back row of SK1 as we wanted to stand and knew we stood more chance if not blocking views.
davieG Posted 8 May 2017 Posted 8 May 2017 They encouraged people to go to the equivalent stand which meant the new kop included both the old kop and most of the double decker which was as you know people that generally liked to sit.

Ted Maul Posted 8 May 2017 Posted 8 May 2017 A lot of people went into the Kop assuming that, at some point, it would be swapped with the family stand. In terms of our expansion, extra tier on the east stand and an extended, single-tiered Kop would be perfect.
