So they'll be our fans when we're doing well but nowhere to be seen when we're struggling?

Some will, some won't.

Every club has these sort of fans. From fans who would miss their daughter's wedding because Leicester have a friendly away at Doncaster to fans who would only go to the CL final if they were given a free ticket and happened to be in Cardiff that day anyway.

I care about the club being successful and bigger not the profile of the guy sitting next to me and how he came to being there.

Stopping people coming to the match because of our limited stadium capacity will only be detrimental to our growth long term.

Newcastle were averaging 36k in the mid 90s. They had a title challenge and later a CL campaign and their average attendance went up to 50k. They've been mostly shit for a decade bar one or two seasons but they've still maintained their 50k crowd every week.

I see no reason why we can't aim to be like Newcastle in terms of fan base.

Trouble is, Newcastle is bigger than Leicester (?? - I think Newcastle is bigger in terms of area and population) and they haven't got a major Rugby team either.

The issue with that is that there are a large number of kids who can't get tickets at a time where we should be capturing the entirety of a generation- there should be absolutely no need for any child growing up to become a glory fan at the moment. This is a massive chance to really grow the club, make no mistake. We should just go for it.

Didn't think of it in that sense, kids should have the chance to go to watch this

I'm still getting used to us being a popular club, i started going when Levein was manager so we weren't exactly fashionable then

So 55% say build it asap and 35% say build it in two years.

In June this thread will be two years old. In that time we have won the league the reached the CL quarter finals.

So as the vote is 90% for it now can someone do an open letter to the owners saying get the fvcker done now.

Perhaps they can add 500 seats for the Thai's they fly in for the real big games.

Undoubtebly in my mind would make us a bigger club.

The key to preserving high attendances and future growth is by appealing to kids. We should give more tickets to schools and reduce ticket prices all the way up until U18's (If we expand). This way the fan base grows.

A bigger ground means means we can increase to hopefully 30,000 season ticket holders. Which means we always hit our current attendance and all the big games will sell out.

Now is he perfect time to attract future fans and I fear if we don't act quickly we may lose another generation of fans to the "big clubs".

Then lose them for 20 years until they can afford to come again with their kids? Relative ticket price reductions are needed across the board for this to work.

Whilst I'd like to agree, I can't see it because as a club, we are one of the cheapest for season tickets in the league.

Dont get get me wrong, I'd love that but I just can't see the club doing it as the demand is currently there.

If we expand I'd even trial giving tickets to schools in the rest of the East Midlands to see if that has any affect. If we can't appeal to our surrounding areas as champions of England and the only PL team in the local vacinity, then we never will.

I'm sure there are loads of potential City fans waiting to be attracted in the rest of the Midlands, especially at the moment when the other teams are performing so poorly.

Total bollox we would not even get planning permission in that time. So nothing will be in place.

Interesting. I assume that would mean raising everything which doesn't currently have a corporate box at the back. It would certainly make our ground fairly unique- many stadiums have 1 bigger stand and 3 smaller ones, not the other way around. It would give us a chance to make the outside of the ground look much better as well, that's basically everything with the exposed concrete.

Knowing our owners, they would be looking to make the whole thing state-of-the-art, so I'm hoping it's true!

You'd be surprised.

My mate's lad plays for a junior football team and some non Leicester fans from Nuneaton asked him about getting three season tickets to watch PL football for him and his two boys but wasn't able to through lack of supply.

If we became big enough there would be a significant amount of people who would probably start watching us from footballing deserts within the region from neighbouring counties. I bet there are quite a few Forest fans still kicking about from outside Notts because of their legacy under Clough.

You spelled Nottingham wrong..

Utter crap I'd suggest. No planning permission has been sought yet, and there is no gaurantee that it would be granted in any case. Plus, such a project would take much longer than "over the summer" - see Cardiff's recent(ish) expansion for a similar sized project.

I just can't comprehend any fan who is against expansion.

An expansion isn't just for vanity sake but a necessity so the club can grow and a whole generation doesn't miss out on being able to watch their football team. I think we'd easily sell 30,000 - 35,000 season tickets if we had the stadium to fit them all and we could probably average 45,000. We're the a one team city in the 8th biggest city in England and the county has a population of one million. You can go for miles in any direction before you come to a league team and we could easily get new supporters from Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire.

It's amazing how many small thinking supporters we have who are happy to rest on their laurels and remain little old Leicester.

Superb post.

If we are to move to the next level then a bigger stadium is needed. It should have been put

In place at the end of last season and started to being built at the end of this season.

The delay to me shows a lack of confidence and points to the fact that the stadium will

never be expanded. It leaves us in with the likes of Southampton , Stoke etc , clubs just

driftng with no ambition.

Follow that route then in the next five years the fans will begin to drift and 32,000 will be adequate.

Said before I think the first step should be adding two/three rows on to the front and moving the advertising boards in for the running track, would take our atmosphere to the next level and it seems like it would be quick and easy

Only if those that bought those tickets sang.

We need to expand the stadium whilst we are hot. No doubt that we will sell 40k if we had that capacity tomorrow. It will attract those who wouldn't have gone to see us before and hopefully 50/60% of these people will retain their interest and become hooked before our next downturn in form.

Its now or never imo.

Of a 42,000 capacity we'd sell 36-38k every game for me. 42k for the big nights I.e Europe or when the top six coming to Filbert Way.

Great thing about the King Power is no matter how high up you are, you still get a very good view unlike a lot of grounds which make players look like ants. Hopefully the few more rows shouldn't make too much of a difference.

Agree with the expansion, we've been selling out games ever since we've come up. And I know many genuine fans who often can't get a ticket. Might open the door to hold the odd international game too

Genuine question (probably been asked in here before):

would you prefer...

32k sell outs each week

35k attendances with 5k empty seats each week

because that's what I'd suspect we'd get. Tough one I admit, but empty seats kill it a bit for me. Part of what's been great the last few years is it's almost a dream ticket, although realistically that's only the case in a few games. Not that I want people excluded but it heightens the sense of support.
