Kitchandro Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I'm not enthusiastic about this tbh. He's never struck me as very inspiring. Let's face it though, this is more the first bloke than wanted it, rather than our first choice. I don't think many City fans will be filled with confidence after the last couple of weeks. As I said in other threads, we need to be moving forward season after season, I hope he can help us with that. If we stutter towards lower mid-table/bottom 3 for too long we risk losing our best players and stagnating. Hopefully, Ranieri will play to our strengths and we'll play some good positive football. This is of course imperative if we are to avoid struggling. We'll see, but I'm not really sure what to expect from this season.
conLAD logan Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I can imagine a lot of the back room staff will stay, hopefully claudio can bring some of his own team to work with the club and take us up a level. Exciting times ahead
ian_marshall Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Delighted with this appointment. Don't get why people are saying he'll end up being another Sven buying average players for large sums. Yes, he has a tendency to spend big, but also has a reputation for attracting top players which generally speaking tend to cost a lot. If we and more importantly the owners have aspirations to push on to the next level then surely fans have to accept that this will come at a premium as the best players don't come cheap. So long as the board are prepared to back him with their own money and not rack up debt, then I don't see what the problem is.
RedSoxUK Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Christian Damiano This is Ranieri's assistant at Parma, Juventus, Roma, and Inter - has coached in England with Liverpool and Fulham, last role as Technical Coach for Inter. Unsure if he went to Monaco with Ranieri, think he could be settled in Italy - if not then I can see him coming in as a coach / possibly replacing Shaky as assistant. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11096/9401965/christian-damiano-top-coach-on-what-english-football-can-learn-from-europe
filbertstreet Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Can he speak English yet? Remember him having trouble at Chelsea
Happy Fox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 TC made a good point on SSN. At Chelsea he had/bought players that were capable of challenging for the league, which he doesn't have here... He will surely be able to attract better players?
Fox 4 Life Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 TC made a good point on SSN. At Chelsea he had/bought players that were capable of challenging for the league, which he doesn't have here... We aren't challenging for the league.....
ktfox59 Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Class? He is a tax dodger who is bitter he never got the england job and his reputation has nose dived.i remember during the odds thread, mentioning harry being so low in some books, then he pops up talkin austin up. I remember thinking it sounded wierd. Maybe he did apply hence bitter tweet. Maybe bookies were aware of his interest too.
Guest ttfn Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 TC made a good point on SSN. At Chelsea he had/bought players that were capable of challenging for the league, which he doesn't have here... We're not challenging for the league though so that's completely irrelevant. He's proven time and again that he's capable of extracting the maximum from his resources.
STUHILL Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Most worrying part is that it comes that there is little plan or football knowledge at the top level of our club. The first target was a club legend and the second target was the only bloke who publically spoke up for the job. That suggests to me that the hunt for a new manager was clueless and directionless. Really?? Wow. If you call it clueless to appoint someone with this guy's CV and experience then I don't know what you were hoping for. Are you really assuming that we just went for him because he declared his interest and no other reason?
ImBlue Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 And we are where we are now entirely because of Nige, who they they sacked and replaced with Svenieri...It's not the worst appointment, but if Shaky goes it might well be. It shows the Thai didn't understand how good Nige is to replace him with a big name old manager again! Because he has a stature in the game and managed top European clubs, the owners have got it wrong? He might not be the right fit for us, only time will tell.. But his building jobs with Monaco, Juventus and Parma suggest he can progress clubs. Maybe with money, but we have plenty of it and I couldn't care if he spends £50m if we get into the top half.
Finnaldo Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 He has done nothing for us yet. Nothing. He has big shoes to fill, we were expecting improvement from Pearson this season. Ranieri must deliver that. He must meet expectations of fans to make up for the sacking. Of course we will get behind him, but he has to earn our respect. That's exactly my thinking, I was absolutely gutted to lose Pearson and he needs to prove his quality, but the people saying they're 'gutted' and already calling him Sven 2.0 need to at least wait for a few games, just like we gave Pearson time after two unsuccessful play-offs.
Fox92 Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 We're not challenging for the league though so that's completely irrelevant. He's proven time and again that he's capable of extracting the maximum from his resources. Yeah, with a lot of money.
KP Fox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Just realised that it was Ranieri who sold us Dennis W*se. Ranieri OUT. Look at it this way. He got rid of the little short a*se!
purpleronnie Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 My concern is we've got rid of a young, hungry manager and appointed what many fans consider a footballing dinosaur. Risky.
shailen Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Not sure about him, and I hope he won't be disillusioned about our realistic aims and try to overplay. Always thought he's managed good teams that were ready made rather than build any team from scratch. He's good for our clubs image but not sure about his tactical nouse. We shall see though.
CosbehFox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Really?? Wow. If you call it clueless to appoint someone with this guy's CV and experience then I don't know what you were hoping for. Are you really assuming that we just went for him because he declared his interest and no other reason? He wasn't even in the running or betting before he said anything.
promised land Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Is he fluent in English yet? From what I recall while at Chelsea he had an interrupter, and one who made things up apparently.
My Nads Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Most worrying part is that it comes that there is little plan or football knowledge at the top level of our club. The first target was a club legend and the second target was the only bloke who publically spoke up for the job. That suggests to me that the hunt for a new manager was clueless and directionless. It looks like that was the case, but I hold the slim hope that he said he wanted the job because he had already been offered it, however unlikely that sounds.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Fantastic news! I am elated to have Claudio Ranieri confirmed as our new manager, a man with vast experience. At last I can look forward with renewed confidence, to a great new era, for Leicester City.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 It is possible to be grateful, and to admire, what Nige did AND be happy at this appointment I know this is a crazy idea for some....
Webbo Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 My concern is we've got rid of a young, hungry manager and appointed what many fans consider a footballing dinosaur. Risky. Many fans talk out of their arses.
Kent Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I wouldn't say it reeks of Sven Mark 2 but I guess there are similarities which is my only reservation after it bit us in the arse before. Really hope it comes off, this season's either gonna go really well or really bad...
Happy Fox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Yeah, with a lot of money. So? it isn't as if we gave tuppence for NP.
