Clever Fox Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 Seems an honest lad in his interview. Don't expect him to play Saturday either. But may get a run before the game is over. I have a good feeling about Saturday's game regardless of who plays. The moral still seems to be high and we might catch Sunderland before they have a chance to add to their squad.
Captain... Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 I'm not happy with this signing at all. Atalanta paid €1m for him last year and we buy him for €8m. On the phone in on Radio Leicester the expert who was on said he's not really an upgrade on what we have. Also if I read Italian football fans comments every single one has said he was one of the worst defenders in Serie A and we've been ripped. I'm sure I'll see for myself in the coming weeks but I'm not enthusiastic about this signing at all. This appears to be a scouting team signing so I hope they've got this one right. It's all subjective, 8 million for us is probably the same as 1 million for a club like Atalanta, this the richest league in Europe, we earnt £70 million in TV and prize money. Atalanta earnt around £25m. They have average attendances of 15,000.What you pay for a player isn't a reflection of how good he is but how much you want him, and how much other clubs want him. We needed a defender and needed one quick, not going into the new season with only Huth and Was as experienced available centre backs is worth £5.6m to us which is a fraction of our prize money. Aerie A fans will think we were ripped off because no Italian club would pay that for him, but we aren't an Italian club we can afford to spend 5.6m on what could turn out to be a back up centre back. Because the alternative could be playing an academy lad at LCB or Fuchs who is an LB and not really looked convincing at LCB for an extended period or rushing Wes back without giving him a proper break.

I'm confused, Roma and inter are much more high profile then us. Other then wages, why would you choose us?????
Captain... Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 I'm confused, Roma and inter are much more high profile then us. Other then wages, why would you choose us????? Didn't they come in for him in January and he wanted to help Atalanta survive. Also I doubt he would be first choice at Roma or Inter. We can also offer wages on a par with top end Italian clubs, latest figures I can find is inter earnt £70m in TV and prize money in2013, we earnt more than that last season. They also wouldn't offer that much for him because transfer fees in Italy are not stupidly inflated like they are here.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 italia @atalanta06m45 minutes ago BREAKING: Nigel Pearson has signed a 2 year deal to be head coach for Italian club Atalanta. Pearson is "excited to have a substantial amount of money to spend on new recruits" the key component making people fall for fake tweets is not to exceed the character amount by nearly double
Wymsey Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 4-year deal for this guy is a tad risky, based on what some have said about him.

I don't agree with this at all. It's a global market, just because we are a EPL club doesn't mean we have to pay a premium. The price isn't determined about what you have it's about what the product is worth. Bill Gates wouldn't go into McDonalds and accept being charged $100 for a Big Mac. If we're knowingly paying more than his worth we are idiots.

Gerard Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 A Big Mac has a set price, a football player doesn't. As in an auction the player often goes to the highest bidder. Well he signed for €1m last season and we reportedly paid €8m. From what I've read he was one of the worst defenders in Serie A last season. There doesn't seem any logic why his value has gone up 800% in that time.
ealingfox Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 In all honesty he sounds a bit doggo but of course we'll give him a chance and show him support. If its a Steve Walsh shout I'll feel more assured.
Munshi Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 Now I want a big mac, thanks guys I only came onto this thread to discuss Yohan.

Gerard Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 Actually you are wrong. http://www.economist.com/content/big-mac-index Whilst a little tongue in cheek, the big mac index is indeed a marker of a countries wealth Haha, but we're not buying Big Macs in regional places, we are in a global market and perhaps a better example would have been a commodity like gold rather than a Big Mac. If I want to buy 10kg of gold it costs me the same whatever country I'm in. Internacional obviously think our €15m is better than Bayer Leverkusen's €10.3m. Some people comment on it like we have an endless pot of money and price is irrelevant. The truth is we are still one of the poorer PL teams and if we can't get value in our purchases then we will fall behind our competitors.

Delighted because I'm a big fan of Italian cuisine.
McFoxy Posted 3 August 2015 Posted 3 August 2015 I'm impressed with this link. Good work. I'm a fountain of knowledge when it comes to such things. Working in an international business, burgernomics is used as a way to highlight price differences across economic boundaries. It probably explains why Aranguiz doesn't want to come to Leicester. By the time he adds fries and a shake, his £50k a week won't get him so far

I was just highlighting the flaw in your argument, not necessarily disagreeing with you. Personally, I don't want anyone here who doesn't want to be here
AyewJoking Posted 4 August 2015 Posted 4 August 2015 I too am pretty cautious about this one based on what I've heard. I will ask my family in Italy what they think. ahh, the old" family in italy" trick
dayday Posted 4 August 2015 Posted 4 August 2015 Interesting that when he was in Atalanta's side they conceded 1.7 goals per game, yet when he was out they conceded 0.7. Bizarrely with more conceded goals whilst he was playing they won more games % wise,so expect a lot of 3-2 wins .
Ric Flair Posted 4 August 2015 Posted 4 August 2015 He does sound a little erratic, like many defenders we've had in recent years. Ranieri has a reputation of solid defenses but then so did Pearson and yet we never actually had one in his 2nd stint here. If he's a character like Wasyl who actually is half decent then it's fine by me. Looks a nasty bastard, alongside Huth he'll take bodies.
Captain... Posted 4 August 2015 Posted 4 August 2015 I don't agree with this at all. Disagree, as others have said he is not a Big Mac he is a unique commodity. Imagine you are playing monopoly, you are winning but you don't have any sets and the person in second has the light blues and the oranges. You have Trafalgar Square and Fleet Street and one of the other players, who is last has the strand. He has just landed on Mayfair and needs £400 to buy it so you offer to buy the Strand off him. You know how much he paid for it, £220 and offer him that. He knows how much it is worth to you and how much he needs to buy Mayfair, so he counters with £400, that is worth it you have £3000 so you can complete your set and build some houses. Second place comes in and offers him £500 because you not having the strand is worth it to him because it will stop you building houses and getting more money in. So you start bidding, in the end you out bid second place with £2200 10 x the market value, because it is worth more to you as it is the only chance to complete a set, it still leaves you £800 to build some houses and cement your position on the board. All these valuations are subjective based on a lot of factors, relative wealth and need are just 2 of them remaining contract is another and whether the selling club wants to sell, how long until the end of the window/start of the season. The other big factor is the cost of not getting someone in, starting the season without getting in another centre back and playing 3 CBs could have been a disaster one injury against Sunderland and we could have ended up with an academy player playing in some crucial early games or having to rejig our formation. Look at Andy Carroll, Liverpool had to do something because the alternative was to go the rest of the season with only one striker, they had £50m in the bank and needed a forward, Carroll was an incredibly exciting young English forward at the time, of course he wasn't worth £35m but they didn't have much time and Newcastle held out for the best deal, because Liverpool left it too late and had shown their hand.
