Jamie Vardy

Recommended Posts

Or.

It's that some people like to have a hard earned drink and wind down. A side effect of that is that you might say some silly things in the moment.

There is no racial abuse going on here.

I'm not calling it racist.

I'm saying that it's acohol induced aggression. The cure is education about alcohol.

If you need drink to wind down I'm sorry for you and clearly it doesn't have the effect you want. It winds you up.

You're one of many missing the point. He's allegedly used an iffy term and a person's race to insult them.

It's more the intent and the fact that he's mentioning their race. I don't know why people find this so hard to grasp.

Jamie Vardy is a dirty, cheat.

Wes Morgan is a dirty, black cheat.

Shinji Okazaki is a dirty, Jap cheat.

All fine according to a lot of people on here. The mind boggles.

First one ok. The others not. Sad we are talking about this and not the performance yesterday.

Not exactly the professional behaviour you'd expect of a footballer representing our team and is inexcusable if true.

However, my thoughts from the video are that whilst it does to some existent sound like the word being referenced it really isn't conclusive from the quality of the audio. Add to the fact that he also has quite a strong Yorkshire accent and isn't the most eloquent I can understand why a journalist who has no background on him might assume that he has used this terminology.

Also, there is no time/date stamp on the footage so this could have been filmed at any point in time.

Furthermore as someone further up the thread has mentioned we cannot see the person who he is referring to do it is very difficult to judge the context of the slur. Who's to say that this wasn't directed at a person of non Asian descent who Vardy knows but who goes be the name referenced or something similar sounding?

I think without all of the facts this is a bit of a non-story, although if more evidence surfaces which conclusively shows he's guilty then I'd expect similar treatment to those who have recently brought the club into disrepute. Irrespective of whether or not he is guilty I'd certainly expect the club to have a word with him about his conduct and possibly issue a fine.

Think the Sun are trying to make something out of very little, drunk men at casino full of testosterone, having never been to a casino imagine there is imagine there is a fair bit of aggression going about, often used to call someone a Japanese bitch and never thought of it as offensive.

Sorry but I don't see Jap as a racist term.

Well it is, so, that's on you, sorry.

That's like me coming on here and saying I don't think Paki is a racist term. Sorry Bert, that's just daft.

I hope he hasn't said it and I hope it all blows over but let's not be outright retarded, here.

Too many people retrospectively analysing this from a measured, educated perspective. In the heat of the moment, there's no way Jamie had thought about how this was a derogatory term 70 years ago. If he didn't, neither should you. Stop wasting your time.

Get him to apologise, no further comment from club or his Mrs (for the love of God, no more tenuously linked writer quotes).

Sorted

Well its not though is it. That is known to cause offence. In the context I may have used "chinky" in the past as in food, I don't see it as offensive, nor do intend it to be.  If someone were to go "Get out the way you stupid chinky ****" to a Chinese person, then yeah I agree its racist because it is meant to be offensive and their race is being singled out in order to offend. That is racist, and believe me, I hate racism - we can agree on that.

Type Chinky in google :

Chinky:
  1. 1.
    a Chinese person.
  2. 2.
    British -
a Chinese restaurant or a Chinese meal.

You conveniently left out

I don't think the two terms are comparable.

Your (and I'd have thought most of the board's)attitude to the word "Paki" is strongly influenced by being brought up (?) and living in an area of the country with a very high sub-continental Asian population and hearing of the experiences of many of your peers who are of that background.

As for "Jap" people don't have the "need" to understand any racist connotations for it as there simply aren't as many Japanese people around.

Ignorance of the offensiveness of the word "Jap" is far more understandable than "Paki" in my opinion but clearly that doesn't make either ok.

Thing is, whilst you have newspapers happily running headlines using the word Jap (something you would never, ever see with Pa*i even in the sun). Then people will use the word without thinking / realising it's offensive.

If I was Vardy I would print out those sun articles and if he's asked about it, just say "Sorry didn't realise, I read it in the sun so thought it wasn't offensive".

No.

Well you seem to have brushed over this incident pretty quickly. I think it's amazing that you have the nerve to attack Haydos for getting on his high horse for seemingly having a problem with blatant xenophobia, while you're complaining so forcefully about sexism. Some consistency would be nice.

What a crock of sh1t.... I'm sure our oppressive government would love to make it illegal to speak any abbreviated word....no grey areas then....hold on though....using a colour might be just as bad.....

We all have our own hobby horses.

As I explained I think the bigger problem here is alcoholism, I don't think Jamie is a blatant Xenophobe but if you do fair enough. I hope that you are not a hypocrite after this attack and are as loud about sexism as you are about "xenophobism" but somehow I doubt that.

Sounds like chap to me. One of my mates was there that night and said how the players was all talking to fans for most of the evening. They wasn't drunk. The video clearly was edited in a way to make it worse. The casino should release the other footage from different cameras to show exactly what was happening and the supposed victim.
