weller54 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 We really should have scored 6/7 on Saturday...Okazaki looked busy and tidy but he's NOT a finisher, neither is Vardy... Defoe had one chance and scored.. If he was in our side on Saturday he would have had 3/4!!... We still need a poacher, a natural Goalscorer.... Perhaps Charlie Austin?
Nick Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Too early to tell yet. We scored 4 ffs! Austin wouldn't have had those chances because he wouldn't have had the pace to exploit them.
Simmsy Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I feel the last position that needs improving is striker, if Austin was cheaper/on a free it'd be worth the investment but I just don't see him being worth the massive outlay when we have a lot of strength in depth in that position.
lgfualol Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I think our strikers are fine. Ulloa is a good finisher and I think Kramaric will show his talents for finding the goal more. I'd rather use the £12-15m that we'd spend on Austin for other positions. Also I'd have thought any of our players would have scored that Defoe goal.
AKCJ Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Defoe would not have scored 3/4 if he was in our team because he doesn't get in the positions that the others do. He also missed an absolute sitter right at the start.
Lestoh Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Defoe had one chance and scored? My man, did you see the opening 5 minutes of the game?
Guest Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Kramaric was supposed to be a goal machine when we signed him.. he didn't really get a long enough run of starts to prove it or otherwise.
Lestoh Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I'm probably in a minority here, but I think I'd be happy buying Austin and sending Kram out on loan in the Championship to get him some game time.
Ric Flair Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Natural, instinctive finishers are hard to come by. It's true that Vardy isn't clinical in the sense that he'll finish most of the chances he gets but his work rate and pace means he creates so many chances for himself and the rest of the team. Okazaki looks of similar ilk but we can't comment on his finishing just yet. Ulloa and Kramaric have both been very prolific prior to coming to us and that's why I think we've plenty of goals in us when any of our strikers play. Ok, if we can bring in a natural finisher who will compliment the team then i'm all for it but we don't need another striker just for the sake of it. I'm still expecting Kramaric to go bang at some point for us.
Rincewind Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Austin did not score enough against us last season in the last game. (if he played) Or enough to keep QPR up. The important thing is would he fit in with our style of play or different systems.
Ricey Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Ulloa is an instinctive finisher, he'd have taken one or two of those chances. However you then sacrifice something is regards to build up play, so maybe with Ulloa we wouldn't have created as many of those chances.
MrSpaM Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 We scored 4 and people are already moaning about our finishing?!?
shailen Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Be more happy that we are creating chances. Our strikers are more than just players who score. They both press really well and have pace and power to destroy and scare defences. If we had someone like Defoe, I don't think we'd create anywhere near the same amount of chances, simply because a lot of our chances result from pressure and mistakes by the opposition. Vardy could improve his finishing but he's shown he can be lethal and so has Ulloa and Kramaric. Basically what we are looking for is a striker who can do all those things and finish, and if he was out there he certainly wouldn't come to us. I'm more than happy with what we have up front. If I'm going to criticize anyone on Saturday it has to be the defence. Huth particularly looked poor, but we all know he's much better than that.
Tuna Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Need better than Austin. The fact no one but is went in for him says it all.
cc_star Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 We wouldn't have created all those chances with a Defoe type player in the team. Its the hardworking ethic that created them
goose2010 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 8 Shots on target 4 goals scored 50% conversion rate simply not good enough

I think people forget the pace at which Vardy and Mahrez run, then factor in that pantillimon is massive, to slot the ball home in those circumstances is pretty difficult. We aren't going to finish every chance, even if we put Messi up top. We scored 4 goals you can't really ask for more than that, surely?

How do do you know for sure he isn't a finisher? His all round game looked superb but a chance didn't fall his way. We scored 4 and looked dangerous every time we went forward. I really don't see what there is to complain about?
Ric Flair Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 That run and little chip past Pantillimon from Vardy that was so close to going in was unbelievable.
Babylon Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 That run and little chip past Pantillimon from Vardy that was so close to going in was unbelievable. That and where we played the ball out from the back down the left wing with some brilliant passing and Mahrez blazed it over. Can't believe that wasn't shown on the highlights.
fazzyfox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I'm confident that Kramaric is a finisher, I just hope he keeps his confidence up whilst out of the side. The momentum of scoring for fun in Croatia potentially ebbs away in time but if he's a natural then that technique should remain.
Fox92 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 We would have scored another two or three if Mahrez and Vardy would have passed. Vardy should have played the ball back when he tried to lob the goalkeeper and Mahrez was virtually messing about with the ball towards the end.
