Dickov22 Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 Imagine if Danny Ings (Liverpool) scores 7 goals this season, he's a guaranteed starting spot for tonight. Problem is, Vardy plays for little Leicester and is 28 years old. That's basically all there is to it. Kane is supposedly England's future so I can see why he gets a starting spot. Walcott arguably is too and has been in good form (for 2 games). Sterling has been utter dog muck for Liverpool. Vardy has been a bit unfairly treated if he doesn't start later.
wattolcfc Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 The problem for me is that in most qualifying games using Vardy would be next to pointless. He is best running behind defences and against 'lesser' sides they tend to sit back, which means Vardy's game is null and void as he is not he most skilful player England possess and relies heavily on pace. In a tournament, against the top sides, he would be a perfect player to start with as they will be on the offensive and we could counter. The problem is that Vardy won't shine for England until we play the top sides and by then he may not even be in the squad. Here's hoping he starts and plays a blinder tonight, but I can't as us having many chances to get in bend in their defence.
Ashley Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 Just been in the bookies to put a scorecast on, no option for Vardy in Hills. Standing next to some bloke and he turns and says to me, wouldn't bother they've already said Vardy won't play tonight and they will play him on Monday instead?? Anyone else heard this

lgfualol Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 Ergh he better play, there is no reason to watch it otherwise. Bore yourself to tears and your team's player doesn't even play.
foxfanazer Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 Well at least I ain't got to watch the shite then
ScouseFox Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 to be fair judging by estonia's record so far they will be as defensive as everyone else who comes here and vardy wouldn't be much use.
The Doctor Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 Kane is what? 21? It's not that surprising he has had only one good season by that age. I would be surprised if he ever got over 20 league goals again because, like you say, something about him is just a bit shit. He has no turn of pace and last season seemed to just bundle through challenges rather than offering any pace or skill, and everything he hit seemed to go in (Huth og at White Hart Lane a case in point). It seemed last year almost like he'd done a deal with the devil (the fact that he looks slightly Satanic probably makes me think that too). But I still think describing him as a "one season wonder" just 8 games after that season finished is very harsh and Vardy has done no more in his career in the top flight to suggest he's any less of a one season wonder than Kane. Criticise his form all you like, but "one season wonder" just seems like a weird stick to beat Roy/Kane with when you're championing the merits of Vardy. I wasn't being entirely serious, but I would say that usually good players show something while on loan, Kane when played down the centre had a pretty average scoring rate, and with us made De Vries look like a balloon d'or nominee. While both at the moment have just a four month good spell to their prem careers, given their comparative histories just since Kane started out in the championship. I'd say Vardy is more likely to keep it up.
MooseBreath Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 I reckon if his name was James Vardington-Burrows he'd be the first name on the sheet. Literally, he'd be in goal. That's how well he'd be perceived. #classwar
Oxfordfox83 Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 I wonder if people are as annoyed with the fact that the Captain tonight, Gary Cahill, is clearly bang out of form and playing in one of the worst defences in the league, whilst someone like Scott Dann is clearly in form and playing in the joint best defence in the league, didn't even make the squad let alone is going to start ahead of Cahill, as they are with the thought that Kane is starting ahead of Vardy tonight. Or is that different? There are two elements to being in a team. The first part is the quality and form of different players, and the second part is how they gel-the understanding, the trust, the familiarity, etc. Now, I can completely see why you don't just pick the best players week to week-there has to be some consistency otherwise the chance to gel is zero. But by the same token, you have a to allow for some transition, and for the team to manage the emergence of new players and for established ones to drop out of form. Dropping Cahill would possibly be fair on his current form, but more than anywhere else on the pitch, the back four need to gel, so I can see why you'd leave him in, especially with the captain out and no need to win. I don't think it really matters, although God knows we need to being through more English centre backs. Vardy is a bit different-we're not dropping anybody, since three of the recent regular starters are out, and up front you don't rely on the 'gelling' so much. As Manwell had it, I'd have liked to see Austin and/or Kane play last year because Welbeck can't play football and Rooney is a flat track bully. Now, I'd really like to see Vardy play, partly because he's Leicester, but mostly because he's totally different. If we're 1-0 down against Italy/Spain next summer, I think he'd be the ideal man to come on and run at their tired old men. It might never happen, but I think those kind of games are where you'd see the best of him...
The Doctor Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 Where have I said you can't judge him on a 2 month purple patch of course that has to be taken into account that's one of the reasons he's got his call up. I have said that Kanes season last season and his performances from the bench for England are just a better reason to start him than a 2 month purple patch. That is all. It makes me laugh because pretty much for the entirety of last season while Kane was the topping every goal scoring chart going for pretty much the whole season yet you'd struggle to find a poster on here that thought he was worthy of a start in a England shirt. Fast forward to now and Vardy should be a shoe in because he's got a few early goals and is top of the scorers charts. I think some of you have it in for ugly people. Let's be fair, Kane didn't get going until November last season and was done by early April. His purple patch was the same length as vardys so far
FrankieADZ Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 Vardy is on the bench tonight then, Hopefully he'll play Monday
Matt Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 Team's been announced. Kane and Walcott. **** England.
adam Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 Hodgson out What a boring ****! Bizare how Kane gets in ahead of Vardy. Surely you reward englands top goal scorer this season in a nothing game .Harry Kane has been useless since April!
Dan Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 I can't get on board with the argument of Kane being younger. That's alright in the long-term, but we've got a tournament coming up in eight months. I'm not too disappointed to be honest because I can see Estonia being defensive, hard to break down, not suited to the way Vardy plays for Leicester and if my fears were confirmed that he'd not get the space to deliver, then I think it's likely to do him more damage than good. The France game in November will be the most suited to him as they'll leave more space for him, and that's where he can be ridiculously deadly. I'd imagine he'll get on at some point.
Wymsey Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 **** this game. No point in having the game anyway on the main channel; would rather watch Corrie (which I haven't for years).
AKCJ Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 ****ing sick of this same old ****ing shite. Watch ITV crawl up Kane's arse when he gets his 3 yard tap in. Hodgson is a coward.
Guest Lcfc82 Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 If vardy played for one of the big 6 clubs, he would 100% start tonight. If he doesn't get a start against Lithuania either there's no point in calling him up.
Dan Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 If vardy played for one of the big 6 clubs, he would 100% start tonight. If he doesn't get a start against Lithuania either there's no point in calling him up. That's the flip side of it. I can understand it if it's tactical, but given it's England I don't think it's unfair to suggest that if he played for Liverpool or Spurs then he'd probably be playing tonight.
ScouseFox Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 wounder for vards that, must be on such a high being picked three times in a row for england, country's most in form player, top scorer in the league, captain is injured, all the other strikers are out of form or injured... still doesn't play.
The Doctor Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 Right, no need to watch then. Dull match where an offside goal will deflect in off Kane's arse and the commentators will be praising him as the second coming.
Guest Col city fan Posted 9 October 2015 Posted 9 October 2015 I did say... Is anyone surprised? It's Hodgson after all.
