Wes Morgan - Unsung Hero?

How long will Wes be able to keep it up? The fact that he has managed to maintain such a rich vein of form WITHOUT a summer break shows what a class act he is.

Most players (Sanchez, Aguero) have been injured or blamed poor form on a lack of rest but Wes seems to keep performing which is a credit to both him and out backroom staff for keeping him fit

Morgan is my favorite player ever for Leicester, I love the guy, maybe I am biased because I met him 2 times and he is a awesome guy. He is hugely underrated, even last season when people were moaning at him, he was doing great in my eyes, he never had a good CB to play with, they were always changing.. played with about 5 different CB's last season.

Now the team is stable you see how good he is.

Another thing I want to add is yes I think Ranieri has improved him BUT not by as much as you think.. I swear Morgan has always been really good for us, but the defence was always changing before, never had a consistent CB partner until now.

I agree Morgan was good last season, but I don't think his errors had anything to do with changing partners. He had played with Moore and Wasilewski already.

His errors were small and infrequent that just happened to have been highlighted by a goal every time it happened. It's the way it goes, and its not like he is the only one last season, the whole team got punished for small errors at various points.

That's probably why we are relatively more solid now (despite being more open and attacking). We would not be the resilient and well drilled team we are now if we hadn't been punished in a big way last season by ruthless teams.

He has been a rock ever since we signed him tbf. He is fitter, faster and stronger than he was when he signed too which always helps and credit has to go to the fitness staff for that.

Felt so sorry for Big Wes at points last season. It seemed that every little thing he did wrong ended up in us conceding a goal. I'm sure there were even times when he didn't do much wrong but it'd still end up in us going a goal down, like when he headed the ball onto Cambiasso's knee when we lost to WBA at home! And perfectly summed up how his season was going against Spurs at home, a game we deserved to win, when he slid in on the spurs goal and the ball basically hit him in the face and went wide. I just though to myself if that had been at the other end he'd have caught it so sweet the ball would have ended up in the top corner of his own net

Maybe the fact he literally hasn't stopped for a season and a half has helped? No time to get unfit and have to get fit again. However the fact that with the prospect of another Copa America he could be playing 2 seasons without a rest, something is going to have to give eventually!

THIS. fantastic point.. Morgan is a big guy and he is the type of guy if he was out of action for a while he will quickly put on weight, he has always been a big guy even when he was young. I actually think its benefited him a lot by keep playing without taking 3 months off in summer like everyone else.. if Morgan had 3 months off without playing and training he would put on weight fast, he is built like that.  Its a good thing he doesn't get a break in my opinion.

Think it has helped him that we have adopted the "Italian tactical way'. I think he feels a little more protected and able to do his job which has helped him tremendously. He was never a bad defender, but so many attacks got through to him and there was so much he had to deal with. Defensively, we are operating as a team now, not just as an attacking force....

Morgan really wasn't "good" last season, at least not for the most of it.

I'd say the most miraculous part of our run from April has been Morgan's transformation into a quality Premiership centre-half.

He's hit 44 appearances in all competitions in the last 11 seasons, and managed 36 in the one before that. He'll turn 32 in January, at which point he'll be nearing 600 games. It's phenomenal consistency and as we can see, he doesn't seem the type to need a break.

Wes has benefited big time from how the team has played. We know we can score more than we concede. So conceding becomes less of an issue. And the defence is protected more by a midfield full of bite and energy,

Walsh and Elliott used to heap tons of praise onto Lennon. They were the first to say having him in the side made their jobs easier (and actually made them look better players). I'm convinced Morgan and Huth would be saying similar about Kante.

Backhanded compliment.

Why can people not give him credit for just being a good player? Without taking it away by crediting Huth or Kante for making him look good.

He's a top defender, no two ways about it.

10/10 performance for me with Kante not far behind. Our penalty area was like Syria at times, there was so much being dropped into it. But in the end I wasn't bothered, quite the contrary.

I was so certain we'd deal with the crosses it was more comfortable to watch that when they were working the ball down the left and finding just a bit more space and a few more options than I liked.

But as soon as the ball was hoisted in I had no doubts that Morgan and his three-man backing group would deal with it. In terms of footballing centre-halves Morgan's not that big. But he's grown to be a giant at Leicester these last few months.

Class performance tonight. Really feels like we have a top centre half in Wes now. His decision making has come on leaps and bounds and he looks every bit a top prem defender.

Well done Wes!
