Concourse Redesign - Ideas Needed

Recommended Posts

Do you know who's to blame.... the people who order "One bovril, one hot chocolate, one mars bar, one bottle of fanta and a packet of walkers crisps". FFS man just order a beer and GTF out of the way.

  ;)

Marshall bagging at the Calderon would be a decent pic to put up

Or me soaked in bloody Terry Butcher style after smashing my head open when he scored.  :D

Haha - does anyone stand in the concourses long enough to formulate an opinion?

Because if anyone locked you up in a prison like that you'd complain it was cruel and likely to disturb you psychologically.

They've not been designed for the fans but with the modern necessity for security in mind.

But while understanding the logic, the prospect of standing there like some sort of Russian gulag detainee is worse than grim.

Not that facilities for the basic punter have ever been attractive at football grounds and I've love to see better.

But really the facilities need to be outside within a purpose-built area rather than encouraging the gathering of fans inside the ground pre-match and at half-time, which should really be discouraged rather than the other way round.

The other problem with improved facilities - particularly food and drink - is that many fans can't watch 45 minutes of football as it is without needing a piss or finding some reason to nip downstairs. And the more they have, the worse they get, making watching on television increasingly attractive.

By far the best way to enjoy a game that I've found is through an executive package with a decent meal, uncrowded bar and quick/easy access to decent seats.

The food's always seemed okay and my only real criticism is the bar.

It's all about corporatism I suppose but I do wish there was the option to buy more interesting beers or ciders instead of the mass-market stuff. Again though, it's easier and cheaper to buy my own, watch the game on telly and not have to get the car out!

Just what our Labour Council would prefer i'd imagine (no drinking, no driving, no parking) and perhaps even the only comfortable choice in times to come as the council impacts on even more freedoms that we've previously taken for granted.

Yes, we will probably still be allowed to leave our homes - in approved clothing. But we'll be ever more closely watched and controlled. Don't believe me? Come back in 10 years time.

Perhaps have some benches in the concourse for the older supporters, who don't like standing for to long. Also try and arrange segregation on the steps for fans who wanting to go up or down, it's a pain when come up stairs just as they half time whistle has been blown and the crowds are steaming down the steps and expect you to just jump out of the away.

There are 32,000 seats nearby.  :D

Yeah but you can't take beer into the stand

If they can't stand up for 5 minutes to have a beer, I'm not sure wandering up and down packed stairs will even cross their minds.

lol at central heating, seats etc. how long do some of you spend down there?! you get seats, tvs and central heating in the pub pre game, half time is 15 minutes long and then you go home.

They use heat lamps in the West Stand, or did anyway.

This

If you can't spend two hours in the cold every two weeks then there's something wrong with you. Wear extra layers, it's pretty simple.

By redesign could we make them bigger if we do expand on the stadium.. take them back to the white metal poles and tidy the ground up abit?

They should add a few strippers, a casino and an IMAX cinema for pre-match chillin.

No need for the cinema if we have strippers and a bit of roulette.

I went to Goodison Park the other week and one thing I really liked about there is that they have an illustrated chronological history of the club around the outside.

Without the graffiti, obviously lol)

Something like that in the concourse might be quite cool. It would be good to educate fans, perhaps those who haven't been very often before, about our history. I think knowing more about the club makes people more attached to it.

I was impressed by this too and read it all around the ground while almost walking through horse shite doing so.

How about the wall up the staircase after the first flight, putting a large picture up of the programmes from very early right through to the current day, only need one from a season, iconic if there was one, maybe 10 programmes long and 10 deep, give you enough to work with. If its made into a large poster each stand or staircase could have one.

Toilets should be in one side and out the other but it rarely works when you see it at aways.

Full scale pictures of players from today and the past for kids to size upto, a Morgan, Cambiasso, Walsh etc on the walls.

Our Championship winning season, or the great escape logged onto a wall, just one pic a game with a few words underneath it, could use some from the past too.

Song lyrics dotted about, 'the whole world smiles with you', sort of thing, just a line or two here and there.

Pictures of old tickets etc from the cup finals of the '60's, old player pics training in the snow, at wanlip gravel pits, aerial pics of the ground, filbert street, pics of queues for play off tickets in the '90's.

List is endless for wall art.
