I'd hate to take it away from him but did anyone else think drinky's shot may have hit Fuchs on the way through? Looked a bit like he thought about claiming it but quickly changed his mind when he realised what it meant to Danny.

Thought it did on the last replay I saw. If so, what a fella Christian is. Would be his first goal for us.

I am starting to think Danny Simpson is looking particularly sharp, playing well and establish himself as an important first team player

I'm starting to think he's probably being considered for a place in the England squad. I know Roy's a Spurs fan so Walker is a guaranteed a spot but there's not much else out there is there?

I'm not saying I think he's international quality but he's playing every week in a team that's flying high and is now frequently keeping clean sheets. I'd be surprised if he's not being considered.

Id take clyne and walker. Simpson has been fantastic for us, don't get me wrong, but don't think he's got the passing ability to play international level- he can't keep the ball that well

Morgan and Huth phenomenal again.

Even at 1-0 up I was very comfortable. Morgan has come leaps and bounds from last season.

Clynes got the first team berth nailed down and simpson won't get past walker. Chuck in the idea that stones can play there and simpson has no chance

Relieved and happy about our return to form. Let's not kid ourselves. Since the Chelsea games we've been below our best and it looked like we were going to struggle scoring goals again. Two goals from our strikers and first Prem goal for Drinkwater as well as a clean sheet from what I honestly believe is the best defense in the league right now, is as good as it gets. Luckily Stoke weren't up to much and we were able to try and try again to forve our high pressing and attacking game on them without worrying about potential counterattacks.

Amazing levels of concentration with only 5 shaky minutes before Vardy's goal (Joselu chance). Fantastic to see Mahrez, Vardy, Kante, Drinkwater getting back to their normal high standards. Ulloa made an instant impact and scored a very important goal for him personally, while Okazaki is finally looking like an integrated part of the team.

Only gripe really is Albrighton who is just very limited. He should mix up his game much more, like when he fashioned the Vardy chance first half by crossing with his left. Did cut in a few times but most times ballooned right footed crosses into nomans land at the far post. Cross it near post man!

If we finish top 4 and West Ham don't, I would like us to go all out for Payet. He would make such a difference on that left hand side.

There must be some mistake :-

We don't score goals from outside the box.

Vardy is on a goal drought and needs resting.

Ullua is "useless"

Albrighton has created more chances than any other english player, is a fact I saw bouncing around the Internet yesterday. Enough said. He is also second in the assists chart behind only barkley. Of course he is limited and needs replacing.

One guy nabbed for spitting. Another one for mooning us. And another for racism.

A right pleasant bunch lol

Used to have a shop in Stoke. It was so cheap I just bought it on a whim when I was driving past. It started raining every time I opened the door, so I soon kept it shut.

The BNP were strong there at the time but the racism was two-way and vitriolic.

One sign painted on a local bridge read, "You've got your flag but we've got your country!" I suppose they'd need something to make it worth getting soaked all the time.

Awful place - like the aftermath of a bombing raid in some places. But at least the incomers felt at home - and more so as the potteries closed and so many of factories became derelict too.!

Stoke had their own way of attracting inward investment too. So many in-town speed cameras you felt guilty if they missed you. One of my lads even got flashed twice on the same hill. Going upwards trying to find a car park and downwards on the same road when he'd failed. I think they needed the fines because nothing else seemed to make any money at the time.

Even the Britannia Stadium was left open in one corner, forever creating a draft from the frustrated sighs of so many locals remembering the "good old days".

PS: Wasn't Garth Crooks born in Stoke? Little wonder he couldn't find a good word for us! I bet he had the game as a banker "away win". lol

To be fair, having seen some of their faces, he was probably doing us a favour showing his 'Arris.

The stat surprises me in some ways though not in others but either way it doesn't mean he can't improve.

Like Drinkwater, he needs to score more and, given the number of times he actually puts the ball into the box, I'm sure there'd be an even greater return if we get people arriving in the box like yesterday and if he works hard on getting still more accuracy.

I'm not being picky either. Every player needs to work on their game no matter how well we're playing. Because it's the details that can make the difference.

Think where we'd be with the points from those penalties! Yes, it's over now and hopefully we'll have learned something, but they do illustrate my point about detail and being demanding of ourselves.

That said, from what I saw, Albrighton seemed pretty good yesterday and there's no question he's a valuable asset. As for Mahrez, he did his confidence lots of good with that last goal, and I was pleased for him.

I know it's harsh, but when you tally up how many attempts he has at creating chances (not to mention he takes some of our corners), you kind of expect some of them to fall to a Leicester player. He is a good player, don't get me wrong, I am nitpicking in a side that is actually competing for the title(!). I just feel that we could do with a bit more composure and improved decision-making down his side in particular. He is often overly keen on getting the cross in quickly with his right, way before Mahrez has had a chance to get into the box.

We should try to exploit the positions of Vardy and Okazaki in particular better in those situations.

I have no complaints over his work rate, and the fact you mention proves he's getting into good positions himself. I just feel that Payet would be an upgrade, who has all of what Albrighton has and a bit more...

Brooks shouldn't be taken seriously. Look at the bloke! He chats nonsense ALL the time and I don't think anyone actually takes on board what he says seriously. He is a joke and should be treated as such.

I just smile every time I see Albrighton or read one of his interviews in the press.      Cast aside by 'The mighty Villa' to join that other Midlands club ...   'Little Leicester".

Albrighton has played in every PL since the start of our great escape. His only two substitute appearances were coming on at half time during the West Ham home game last season and the Stoke away game this season.

Albrighton is our most underrated asset, gem of a player. Next game look how many attacks come and start from his side of the pitch.

He's not as flamboyant as Mahrez but he does some simple stuff which is class touches made by an experienced player who reads the game well.

I would argue that there is a reason for this: Mahrez. Partly because the opposition shuts him down, partly because he constantly drifts inside (which congests play to the left and centre) and partly because Simpson does not overlap. Conversely, Albrighton is very direct and Fuchs is far more offensive and is much easier to catch out than Simpson hence teams attacking down that side more (which also results in balls getting overturned on our left side).

Again, I don't want to lay into Albrighton because he's been a very good team player at the very least and has provided some great assists too this season. My thinking goes beyond this season, in the case we actually stay in the top four.

Posted

We seem to mainly attack down the left in the first half and down the right in the second, certainly in home games anyway. The majority of the game seems to take place on the dugout side of the pitch. I think it's because Albrighton is more direct and then Mahrez is better at exploiting spaces and tiredness.

There'll be a few more who've played a substantial amount of those games too.

Doesn't mean the bar's not being lifted or that some of our recent performances haven't been as good as some of the others.

Albrighton, like others, will have to continue maintaining, or even improving his best form, to stay in the first choice X1.

Some have done that. few have found it harder.

Football with a successful/ambitious club is like that. The challenge gets harder. Look at the problems Inler, Kramaric and Benalouane have had yet I imagine all three thought they'd be first team regulars.

Albrighton is one of the reasons we are where we are. Our success last season started around the same time as Albrightons inclusion in the team. Simply because he gave us the width we lacked during our losing stretch. Added to this his directness and crosses caused trouble for defences.

As said he's not as flamboyant as Mahrez but his non stop style allied to his defensive covering makes him invaluable to us at present. I do agree though that he should be scoring more Goals.

What Garth Crooks knows about football you could write on the back of a postage stamp with a broken pencil. Utter conman 'expert'.
