I am starting to really like my boss.

2 day off sick, and she says "I think the best thing is, that if you need to not come in tomorrow, then take the rest of the week sick".

Either this is someone talking out of experience, or she is quite possibly the best Boss I have ever had.

Ps, getting better, just very, very slowly

I know workers have annual leave to have time away from work, but genuinely feel that workers should have a right to temporarily stay away from work if they're really struggling mentally (via a GP visit and consultation).

We all got given a 'mental health day' extra day holiday at work, but bizarrely it had to be used by the end of May.

We di have sick leave ....   but very recently work introduced a "Disability Leave" policy.

Ita more for preventative than reactive.

Ie-  if I am having a hard week, I can take 2 hours off to recharge on a Thursday, but I need to request this on the Wednesday (in advance).

Unfortunately, I think I caught this bout a bit too late, so I'm on sick (paid full)

Ps- long term depression/anxiety is classed as a disability.

Signed off for 3 weeks....

I go on a cruise (preplanned) on Saturday, and go for a track day driving Aston Martins the next Wednesday.

All annual leave refunded!

Reasons to be cheerful.... part 3

One of my friends took his own life yesterday.  If there's anyone on this forum that's struggling please speak to someone. There's people out there that will listen.

How awful, I'm so sorry :(

Slightly fed up, managed to get a stress fracture in my foot for the 2nd time in a year, just whilst playing cricket. My feet are just awful, constant ankle problems that I’ve had my whole life that nobody knows what the problem is and then just breaking bones in my foot doing one of the things I love. Pretty frustrating.

It was a shock.  It just shows that a person can be really bubbly on the outside buy struggling on the inside.

absolutely. I’ve said that often to people… it’s not like a broken leg - a very visible sign of something wrong.. it’s hidden. And there’s so much courage needed to expose a vulnerability like that . Paddy Pimblett  was bang on the money.

Didn't recognise I had depression because I didn't want to hurt/kill myself.

Took PHQ9 test and ticked almost every other box.

Sleep apnoea induced depression confirmed by consultant after a month wait. Effectively, I stopped breathing 20 times an hour. This has impacted my mood for at least the last 2 years, in truth, I can't remember what normal feels like.

No local NHS provision.

Spend £800 on a cpap machine.

Three weeks in

Now having 1-5 episodes PER NIGHT.

Starting to feel good, 10,226 steps walked so far today, which is the third highest this year.

Signed off work for a further 2 weeks (6 weeks 8n total), when I go back, they won't recognise me.

The moral

If you can afford it, don't wait for NHS treatment for sleep apnoea.

Much love.

I have had a friend and a cousin let themselves go.  Hopefully it was quick for your friend.  X

I’ve been on/off suicidal for 4 years, maybe longer. I sought counselling finally earlier this year but I knocked it on the head about a month ago. Today has probably been one of my lowest ever, I’ve been walking the streets with my phone on airplane mode for hours just wishing I had the balls.

It takes balls to live, my friend.

I am the happiest man alive, and I've been there. Be unafraid.

I hear ya mate. Sometimes that thought of not hurting anymore is so tantalising! Sounds like I've had a similar day to yourself. Walked over 10 miles today just aimlessly trying to shake it.

Don't give up though buddy,  gotta be brighter days ahead surely

Bloody hell mate.

Give a mate a call or a family member asap, just have a char with somone.

You need to keep on the counselling mate as long term, even talking about it will help.

Little steps at first and dont think too far ahead.

Get over this hurdle mate and keep going.

Lifes too short, just keep people close who you can talk to.
