dylanlegend Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 I'm thinking Pardew. Really? Pardew? Surely not. That list is pretty depressing.
NewburyFox Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Really? Pardew? Surely not. That list is pretty depressing. He does brilliantly for the first year or so at a club before collapsing so maybe we should let someone else handle the qualifiers and just appoint Pardew for the actual tournament. Guaranteed winners.
Wizerud Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Pearson at 66/1. That would be interesting. And WENGER?! at 25/1? Wouldn't mind seeing it though. But Gary Neville at 9/1? Let's see if he can manage ANYBODY before handing him over the England reins. Would love Eddie Howe actually, really rate him, but he'd be doing himself a disservice taking the job so young.
Super_horns Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Howe plays the way the FA want our players to in the future as well. Would the players respect him as well coming from "little old Bournemouth" and only really playing in the lower leagues? That list does sum up the lack of real options - which is why Hodgson still has a job.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Neville as England manager would be so wrong. His response to Carragher when asked about not playing Vardy up front and only out wide because 'we've got Wayne Rooney' was beyond embarrassing.
benpicko Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 I swear down people on reddit only ever take a player's previous match into consideration when talking about them, some really odd comments on there
Ric Flair Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Was Drinkwater's goal vs West Brom given as an own goal?
ARM1968 Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Think Eddie Howe is potentially one of the greats, but too young at present for the England job.
Voll Blau Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Would love Dyche to get it just to see what feeble excuses he can come up with.
Len Finsbury Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 As Claudio showed with Greece, and other very capable club managers have also demonstrated, managing a national team is a completely different kettle of fish than managing a club. Managers that haven't exactly lit up club football may well be more suited to a national role, which is why some of those names could be strong possibilities. One of the things that you don't need to worry about at International level so much is man management such as discipline etc and it could be this that people struggle with every day at a club but wouldn't hold them back if in charge of England. I'd still back Gary Neville to have a shot. He's not ripping up any trees in his first managerial role but he's thrown himself in at the deep end considering the size of club, expectations and language barriers there. What I would do is avoid the managers that tend to be fiery such as Pardew. His temperament is probably paramount to the success he's had at club level and wouldn't necessarily translate well. The club careers of Klinsmann and Low aren't anything to write home about but they're successful international managers. I'd still rather have an Englishman. They value the job more than a foreigner and less likely to leave for a big club job when it becomes available.
shen Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 It's the statements he makes when he has called up the players from the smaller teams that doesn't sit well with me Shen. Comment about Vary being lucky to be here (like it's some sort of competition he has won at his dad's work place) and now the statement about Drinky being made in such a patronising way. I just can't stand the bloke. He is so snobbish of us and 'the rest' of the premier league or below. It really bugs me. Surely Hodgson has already been less conservative than his predecessors, but I can accept the view that he takes a 'safety/experience first' approach in general. It's the eternal question for international managers though, do they go for routine and culture bearers or do they go for form? Preferably a good mix. People arguing for Antonio or Noble instead of Henderson or Lallana are missing the point a bit, I feel. Not sure the alternatives are substantially better than what's already there, then Hodgson might as well go with the tried and tested. As for next manager, I see Mourinho as probably the best alternative from that list. He'll have a clear concept, command respect all around and he's got good knockout tournament credentials.
Thracian Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Hope he does well. He's worked hard on his game and fully deserved his chance.
HighPeakFox Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Was Drinkwater's goal vs West Brom given as an own goal? Yes
ThaiFox Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Would love Dyche to get it just to see what feeble excuses he can come up with. Well, he couldn't say 'many, many pound notes'! so that's one excuse gone!
Matt Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Honestly can't think of anyone better than Pearson to take over. The FA would never take him though, too controversial. Grow some balls FA!
Carl the Llama Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Imagine Nigel clearing out the egos in the England dressing room and making the players work for each other on the pitch.
ajthefox Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 I'm thinking Pardew. So many horrible/completely unexperienced names on there.
FireFox Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Would Albrighton get a call up under Pearson though?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 I think we're looking in the wrong place. Who's 5,000/1?
yorkie1999 Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 How in hell have we ended up with 8 international players in the starting 11
ThaiFox Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 Honestly can't think of anyone better than Pearson to take over. The FA would never take him though, too controversial. Grow some balls FA! Imagine Nigel clearing out the egos in the England dressing room and making the players work for each other on the pitch. They will never go for NP. The FA will go for Howe, Sherwood or Neville because they say the right things and are the right types, but certainly not the right managers for England. Hodgson has taken England backwards. Hopefully Vardy & Drinky will take no notice of him, otherwise they will go backwards too.
Ozwin Posted 18 March 2016 Posted 18 March 2016 There isn't a top English candidate right now so can see us going foreign again after Woy.
