Danny Drinkwater called up for England

Well Done Danny.

I doubt you'll be used in your rightful position, if played at all, but just sit there and smile on the bench, unfortunately that's as good as it'll get with Woy in charge, atleast your mate Vardy will be there so you can snigger behind Woy's back though!

If you ever wanted to know what is wrong with the current England set-up, it is this part of The Guardian's article about Drinkwater's call-up to the friendlies' squad:

"Hodgson has also recalled Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge who will be vying for the two likely striking roles with Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane and Theo Walcott.

Sturridge last played for England 18 months ago and Welbeck 12 months ago though, with the injured captain Wayne Rooney likely to reappear before the end of the season, all the other strikers are in effect competing for one place in the European Championship finals."

So three sick-notes (plus, in all likelihood Kane) are going to be called up, leaving Vardy to sit at home and watch England implode. How fvckin' stupid can one experienced manager be?

I love to see Leicester City players picked for England, but with Woy in charge I always feel they will have the confidence knocked out of them because Woy's tactics are hopeless. I just hope he doesn't shatter Drinky by playing him for 3 minutes at the end, or in a totally different position like right back, or on the wing. He's already messed around with Vardy and I just have no confidence he will do anything positive with Drinky.

Let Woy stick to his favourite spuds players for now please, and leave ours alone until someone decent manages England and can actually help our players, and play them because they fully deserve to be in their correct positions and not on the pitch as a Woy afterthought.

Of course he won't play him on the wing. That's Vardy's position!

Wasnt Drinkwater a bit of a makeweight in the Matty James deal?

Bet he's well chuffed now , about being injured , seeing how Danny has kicked on! lol

What are you on about? They were signed in different transfer windows. Are you talking about De Laet and James?

Kingy, Drinkwater, Kante and Inler all likely to be at the Euros.

There are doubts over Inler's inclusion in the Swiss team. Squad to be announced tomorrow Friday at around noon.

No, Drinkwater was here for six months before James - signed after he bossed the midfield Sven left while on loan at Barnsleh

On a sidenote, I'd also congratulate Danny Drinkwater on his first call-up for England.

Hope he gets at least a decent chance in a few friendlies. Would be a terrific choice for France, but Hodgson will undoubtedly cling onto his eternal favourites comes summer.

Obviously delighted to see Drinky there but its a disgrace to see somebody like Henderson ahead Noble who is in the form of his life. Big club mentality yet again.

Hodgeson has completely ruined England for me. Terrible selection and mind numbing tactics. Despite the fact two city players might make the squad, this is the first international tournament in my life I've not been excited about. I blame it all on Hodgeson.

How he is still here after the world cup debacle is astounding. First team out, eliminated after 2 group games, and I can't see how these Euros will be any different

Easier group and three teams going through, but I do agree with the gist of that post. We're no better than we were in Brazil.

Liverpool having five players called up to West Ham's zero is hilarious.

Hodgson's too old fashioned and boring, right man for the job at the time but now under him we're going stale. We've gOt a scenario where so many English players are on top of their game and scoring goals... yet a few of them can't called up because he's picking who are out of form, who are playing for the big clubs. Despite winning all the qualifiers he should have gone after the world cup!

We need a young man with fresh ideas with no matter what nationality he is.

Putting my England hat on Sturridge and Welbeck should be selected for France if fit,

and return from injury is successfull.Welbeck and Sturridge both can also play the

flanks, they are not slow I trust them more than either Sterling or Walcott.

Carrick, for me is finished. Henderson and Milner, should sit these 2 friendlies out.

Come on as subs, maybe.

Noble, not being looked at for these 2 friendlies is wrong.

Dier, Ali, Drinkwater should get time together.I want Barkley to be put under pressure.

Sterling and Walcott, should not be automatic choices, they have for me been well below par.

Vardy and Kane, both should be on the plane.Rooney comes back with any Inkling of form he

Will be there.

Lallana, is the marmite of English fans, either you like him or hate him.

Chamberlain, again injured, his seat looks wobbly.

The defence, sorry but any middle 2 worry me.Smalling has slowly progressed if fit, my only

1st choice, but for the 1st time for a long time, any permatation of a back 5 doesnt encourage

me.That is not Roys fault, we just dont have anybody.

I agree about the top line both Sturridge and Welbeck are good players and should be considered for the tournament, however fitness wise I don't think they were ready for the next two friendlies.

Sterling spends most of his time on the floor, Walcott only performs and plays when he likes and the same goes for Wiltshire, Henderson is probably the most overrated player I've seen and Milner hasn't been any good for years and yet he's still gets called up for England, Lallana is not the same player as he was at Southampton, Chamberlain is always injured. Yet as many as said players like Deeney and Noble can't even get a look in.

I honestly don't think there is a better candidate for Engalnd than Martin O'Neill after the Euros. Wouldn't be surprised if ROI go further than England. Unless Mourinho would take over of course but that's very unlikely

Is it just me or are Lallana, Henderson and Milner the most boring players to ever wear an Emgland shirt- being a Liverpool fan must be pretty tough at the min

I was listening to an interview recently with Martin O'Neill on some sort Irish channel and he was talking about the future and he as admitting in the interview he was missing managing a club, being able to work on a day to day basis. One interesting thing he did keep saying was that he was going to see how the tournament went and then decide on his future. Is it time with ROI limited?

For me if he was to leave ROI it would be for a club team.

“What he has done has been pretty evident to everybody,” the England coach Roy Hodgson said. “He’s had a fantastic season in a team that’s having a fantastic season.

“In that area of the field the competition is quite fierce. On this occasion I thought it was an opportunity to bring him in and see if he can reproduce the type of football he’s shown for Leicester at international level.”

I found those comments a little patronising but whatever, at least he's been called up.

I fully expect Wilshere to be out of his wheel chair by the time the tournament comes along anyway.

Not really patronising is it?

I'm thinking Pardew.
