Rusko187 Posted 6 April 2016 Posted 6 April 2016 Now let me begin by saying that I know this isn't done and dusted yet, that there is a whole lot more work yet to go. However the point of this topic is this, assuming we don't suffer a monumental implosion we are pretty much in the champions league.. Personally I cannot see this not being a foregone conclusion already. HOWEVER teams usually work towards the goal of getting to this impressive feat.. meaning they've already built a solid team, have excellent strength in depth and 9 times out of 10 have heavily invested in their squads. So what do we do? I understand we have some superb players and I would be hard pressed to pick a position I would "strengthen" but strengthen we must if we are to have a good crack at the CL. Now usually teams in recent history who go out and buy a LOT of players in a short space of time and make wholesale changes are doomed to fail, dressing room balance is upset and you lose your team ethos etc. How do we handle this? Should we breakout the war chest like our owners have hinted at previously to get here? Or do we simply bring in few players who will make significant changes but run the risk of no depth? No one could have predicted this so I for one am torn between splashing cash and getting "exotic" players or stick with the tried and tested formula of picking up gems on the cheap (if that is even possible for us now).
Jace Posted 6 April 2016 Posted 6 April 2016 For me the owners original objective of cementing ourselves as a top 8 Premier League team sounds good to me
Harry - LCFC Posted 6 April 2016 Posted 6 April 2016 I'll think about the future later. I'm only interested in what we can achieve this season right now.
Foxxed Posted 6 April 2016 Posted 6 April 2016 The words are coming out all weird Where are you now, when I need you Alone on an aeroplane Fall asleep on against the window pane My blood will thicken
LJS Posted 6 April 2016 Posted 6 April 2016 I don't care. Obviously I'd prefer us to establish ourselves as a top club but however shit what follows might be will all be worth it for what we could be about to achieve. I'll have seen us win the league and compete in a European Cup. I've already seen us win the League Cup. I'd want to tick off the FA Cup at some point before I croak. But a league title in the next few weeks will earn the club a bit of patience from me.
glar84 Posted 6 April 2016 Posted 6 April 2016 Agreed. I'll take the 1 season of glory and winning the league (fingers crossed) for now. It's something I never thought I'd see! Even if 10 years of mid table follow, mid table pushing for Europe each season, from where we were, would be pretty good.
PAULCFC Posted 6 April 2016 Posted 6 April 2016 The words are coming out all weird Where are you now, when I need you Alone on an aeroplane Fall asleep on against the window pane My blood will thicken ah,cant beat a bit of RH......and i was getting all optamistic!
Countryfox Posted 6 April 2016 Posted 6 April 2016 Back to stage 3 ... consolidate position and move up the league, as step 8 (potentially) 'Win the league' came a bit sooner than anticipated. But tbf as we are now most likely in Europe next season then perhaps steps 4 and 5 should be skipped. A busy summer ahead.
Benji Posted 6 April 2016 Posted 6 April 2016 Couldn't care less. Our first 11 could all be sold and I'd accept it for winning the league. This is a once in a lifetime experience that fans of just the top 4 or 5 clubs get to live. Winning the league this year will be it for me, I'll dine out on it for the rest of my life. Just enjoy it.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 6 April 2016 Posted 6 April 2016 Is it down to the lake I fear. My exact words when I saw the thread title
UPinCarolina Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 ah,cant beat a bit of RH......and i was getting all optamistic! Oh Leicester City, Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry
EnglishOxide Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 Why can't we have both? Pricey signings mixed with cheaper signings. As long as they bring something different, or of more quality to the table. It depends on how many players leave, but overall I think we need about 2 extra players to fight on 4 fronts because there's no way we won't have more injuries to contend with. Our squad is a good size as it is, and the dressing room doesn't need an overhaul. Out: Schwarzer, Wasilewski, James, De Laet, Lawrence, (Dyer) That would leave us with; Kasper, Iversen, (new keeper/youth product needed) Fuchs, Chilwell, Simpson, Benalouane, Moore, Amartey, Morgan, Huth, (new RB?) Schluup, Riyad, Gray, Albrighton Drinkwater, Kante, King, Inler (new winger and cm?) Okazaki, Ulloa, Vardy, Kramaric (new striker)
Koke Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 Just out of curiosity, if we bought a high quality CB who has Champions League experience who'd he replace, Huth or Morgan? Who's the better player and defender of the two? I'm leaning towards Morgan, though obviously Huth has also been brilliant.
Webbo Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 Is it down to the lake I fear. Aye( aye, aye, aye, aye, aye)
Bluetintedspecs Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 Aye( aye, aye, aye, aye, aye) Aye aye aye aye aye aye aye aye
Simi Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 Can we not just enjoy this moment and not worry about the future for a bit? People are becoming obsessed with what we're going to do. Who should we sign?! Build a new stadium! Enjoy it.
Fox_in_a_Box Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 Id honestly take going down next year if it meant winning the league this year.
ARTY_FOX Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 Win the champions league. That's what we do next. No biggie.
Steven Posted 7 April 2016 Posted 7 April 2016 Can't think beyond Sunderland Quite. A win at Sunderland and Spurs losing will put us two wins from immortality.
