Kitchandro Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 What? Henderson for me was rubbish... Is that a whoosh moment or are you playing along? we did well but just lacked cutting edge, We played Slovakia. If you lack a cutting edge against Slovakia, you haven't done well. Vardy might have scored his chance but other than that it was pretty pitiful. What may have happened had we scored one is neither here nor there.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Im not worried about finishing second, what is more worrying is how that come about. Lots of teams have finished second and had great tournaments, but you have got to worry about that final ball, how many were over hit time and time again... from excellent positions as well! that is the concern
BoyJones Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 The object was to qualify for the next stage, job done, so lets chill a bit. Just goes to show how important two top full backs are to any team. That change was more key for me than playing the two donkeys in midfield Wilshere and Henderson. Tbf, Wilshere has got talent but is not match fit or match hardened. Henderson is conning a living as a footballer. Got to feel so sorry for Drinky. The idiot anchor man on ITV is frankly a disgrace, he only looks for the downside. Feel sorry for the four summarisers having to deal with a total plonker.
Webbo Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 The problem is, Webbo, that expectations should be a lot higher. Expectations are low because people have seen the squad selection, friendlies and qualifiers and know they should expect shambolic underachievement. Obviously I'd have preferred to have won but Slovakia barely passed the halfway line, they were playing for a draw. We're England, we're used to that, it's up to us to break teams down, we didn't, that's our fault. We've still qualified for the next round and will play a team that will have a go. Why anyone would find us not winning funny I don't know. What wanting us to be knocked out will achieve I can't see either.
Dr The Singh Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Can we give the job to Bilic. He knows the score. He was talking shite if you ask me!?
adam Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Coming second in that group is not acceptable. We should have brushed every team aside with little effort.
GaelicFox Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 I'm going to watch some porn and Leicester winning the title to make me feel better!! Faketaxi ? Remind you of work ?

Thracian Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Another anticlimax watching England with their predictable Allen Wade football. How complicated do they want to make it to score goals? So much build up it's like watching subscribers to a school for foreplay in action. Our midfielders just didn't want to take responsibility for having a shot. Our corners and set pieces would have made sitting on park bench seem interesting and even when we had a chance we didn't take it. Yet again the Spurs connection was disappointing and that includes Lallana who huffed and puffed but faded like a spent candle. Alli was awful, Kane uninspiring and the service to Vardy non existent but for one good ball and a few titbits. Our one star was Clyne. He did make an impression with some brilliant runs but we were so lacking in complimentary support up front for Vardy nothing materialised. It wasn't so much about individual's personal performances as organisation and the lack of specific but different threats . The final ball was too often pathetic, the far post was left vacant too often, apart from one big chance, and there was no hope in hell of winning high crosses so why did we play them? A new contract for Hodgson? I wouldn't pay him in snide dollars as a tactician or a man to get some imagination out of players. Look at our set plays for evidence. No invention whatsoever and no understanding of what they were trying to make happen. There was one glaring example near the end. The pedestrian Rooney took a short corner to Clyne I believe. He could have spun an interesting first time delivery to the back post but no, he returned the ball to Rooney who lost possession. Why return the ball at all? A straightforward delivery into the box didn't need the risk of additional touches when it could have been hit in from the initial corner and, no, the failed infant school manouvre didn't disturb the Slovakian defence at all. It all started so well with one and two touch passes dragging the Slovakians all overe the place. Gradually though it got more pedestrian. One and two touch became two and three touches. The initially good control got lax, passing got careless and we totally ran out of ideas. Ideas is what a manager is all about inspiring. Hodgson offered nothing in time of need. Wales beat what I said previously was a rank poor Russia 3-0 but we didn't capitalise on a 1-0 lead and gave away two points with a draw against the same opposition. We've clearly got capable players but not the attitude of continuous, varied, movement and clinical ruthlessness that frightens people. I don't know what Hodgson was like as a schoolteacher but he's no coaching genius. . .
Dr The Singh Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Faketaxi ? Remind you of work ? , I wish my life was so exiting!! I'm no way intelligent to drive a taxi!??
Cadno'r Cymoedd Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Coming second in that group is not acceptable. We should have brushed every team aside with little effort. That's why we love England so much.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Coming second in that group is not acceptable. We should have brushed every team aside with little effort. No one is suggesting as such, but we know where we need to improve for the next game. 3 goals against those teams isn't good enough that is for sure, it is just whether Hodgson or the players he took even have what is required to change that in such a small space of time.
GaelicFox Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 , I wish my life was so exiting!! I'm no way intelligent to drive a taxi!??
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Absolutely hate Hodgson. Coming out basically criticising other three in the group for sitting back. Did he not expect this? Awful manager. Almost wish we had drawn with Wales now so he could have been sacked instantly.
EGBFitness Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Slow, boring, predictable. Are we the most boring international side ever? I love how we only decided to push forward and have any kind of urgency at 85 mins!! We might scrap through round 16 but guaranteed no further
jaqo88 Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Are we the most boring international side ever? Not our fault Slovakia parked 11 men in their box for the whole game. At least we tried to score, even if it was a failed attempt
Guest Col city fan Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 I honestly think it's far more than whether we qualify or not, whether we come first in the group or not etc... I really do. I simply want to see a vibrant and exciting England side, playing with some leadership (who is leading the side on the pitch...Rooney?), playing with some pace (there was ONE single attack I can think of when the early ball got Vardy on behind Skrtel) and playing with some FLAIR. Creative players, unlocking defences with a single pass, having shots and just doing something skillful. I'm afraid the team reflects Hodgson. It is well drilled, solid, doesn't concede many....but it's dull and unexciting. As an England fan, I want to be excited by our National team. Tonight, I'm afraid I was just frustrated and generally bored.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Not our fault Slovakia parked 11 men in their box for the whole game. At least we tried to score, even if it was a failed attempt He certainly can't say Slovakia are more exciting
fazzyfox Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Regarding Hodgson's interview, The last time I heard the word dominate used that many times I was on the phone to Madame Whiplash. Why can't the interviewer grow a pair and say "Roy, there were lots of pointless backwards passes today, is that something you encourage, if so then why?" Followed by, "Can you explain to your Tottenham players that constantly blasting long shots over the bar when their team mates have run the length of the pitch to get into good positions is a selfish glory-hunting annoying thing to do." Followed by "Jordan Henderson.......what exactly is he blackmailing you over".
ScouseFox Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 not sure i agree with slating roy either. think we've created more chances than anyone else in the euros? he's not the one putting 10 yards shots straight at the keeper over and over again, is he? sure some of his selections are nuts and he is a bit of a drip but he's sent out a team that has, three times, performed a ridiculous amount better than their opponents but not taken some very easy chances. we've literally never been threatened at all defensively, bossed all 3 midfields and should've, comfortably, won all 3 games. but we didn't and that's life. hodgson obviously is the scapegoat because he speaks funny and looks stupid but the fact is he's sent out a team and a plan that has been easily good enough to win all 3 games. hopefully he keeps at it and we click more going forwards, we're easy capable of winning this thing and i'm only like 75% drunk.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 In my opinion, there's a lot of comparisons to be made between this England side and NP's Leicester side of Autumn/Winter 2014. Players who were technically pretty good, massively under performing, playing a system that doesn't suit any of the players on the pitch. I loved Nige then and I backed him through all the shit, so I don't really have much choice other than backing Roy as well. What annoys me is people who backed Pearson then who slate Roy now, where's the consistency?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Jordan Henderson passing the ball backwards on 94:56 pretty much sums that up. FAO Glenn Hoddle - can you truly dominate a 0-0 draw?
Dodgy Bob Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Phil McNulty hasn't held back in his report on the BBC. He has been digging at Hodgson since the abysmal pre tournament friendlies and he has given him a bit of a pasting again tonight. Can't disagree with anything he says. It's going to be fun watching Hodgson slated all over when we lose against Portugal.
adam Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 I can't get over Hodgson reckons Henderson had a good game .That sums it all up.
