Merging Cultures Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Yeah, a fair bit. I seem to remember us counter attacking teams which mainly gave him his success. Aside from a few sexy little runs in the box like the goals against Chelsea and Everton. Not sure how you counter attack a team that isn't attacking though. No that's fair enough. As you said there was little space. But there was no service or attempt at passes to unlock the defence. Lots of 'shots' from the edge, crosses and balls in over hit. I watched Vardy make space at times, only for the ball to go backwards or sideways.
iamafox Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Based on how England have performed in the tournament thus far, no-one can say that they deserved to qualify.
Matt Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Just fvck off Hodgson. No one likes you. Retire gracefully you old dinosaur. I'd love a young, passionate, energetic, modern England Manager in charge who could get the best out of this team. Fvck all this talk off possession it's just bollux. I'm lost with England I really am... Dunno, Webbo and ScouseFox seem to have alot of time for him.
fazzyfox Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 So they want to defend in numbers, OK, run at them, take them on, commit them, overload areas, how many free kicks did we force them to concede on the edge of the box?
Kitchandro Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 I thought playing Daniel Sturridge in the quarterback/holding midfield/winger role for the second game running was another tactical stroke of genius by Hodgson. And I especially loved that he decided to play Rooney, his other quarterback/holding midfield/winger, up front for the first time in the tournament just when it looked like Vardy & Kane might have a run out as a front 2. I did not see that one coming. And experimenting with another new starting line up part way through the tournament, despite us needing a win to top the group, as if he still wasn't sure of his best team after being in the job for 4 years - that was marvellous. You've got to hand it to him, his bizarre decisions never fail to surprise.
Dr The Singh Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Dunno, Webbo and ScouseFox seem to have alot of time for him.Webbo jas slot if time for anyone, he is Abe Simpson of this forum, he should be put in an old people's home
foxes_rule1978 Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Would a change of manager really change anything? Maybe he will bring the right players, drinkwater and noble to name two... play the right tactics and try to move the ball forward. Drop Henderson and unfit Wilshere... Kane looks lost too. Andy Carroll would have been of more use.
lestajigs Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Gonna bed I'm getting to angry with this **** on the tv

Lots of 'shots' from the edge, crosses and balls in over hit. I watched Vardy make space at times, only for the ball to go backwards or sideways. I still think Vardy looks inhibited with England, he doesn't seem as confident and outgoing on the pitch as he does with us. There was a few times where he was on the last man and I was expecting him to move and someone to knock it over the top. He didn't seem to be looking for it or, more likely, expecting it though. I think we lacked that killer edge that teams like France have had to squeeze past teams like Albania and Romania. We'll probably look more impressive when we play teams that feel like leaving their third of the pitch.

wardyfox86 Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 After we got sussed out by half time, it would have been nice to have some wingers available as a plan B. Nice 1 Woy!
Izzy Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 "We dominated the game, we had chances, we dominated the game, we had chances, we dominated the game, we had chances". Change the scratched record Woy you twat
adam Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Hodgson clearly not looked on his wall chart and realised the possible opposition after the next game.

Guest Col city fan Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Would a change of manager really change anything? Yes I think so. We CAN play in a different way. I'm not saying it would be any more or any less successful. But the turgid stuff that Roy churns is is reflective of how he sees the game. He sees it a war of attrition. His game plan is to break down the opposition, ultimately so that they cave in under pressure. He isn't expansive. He's 'safe' in his approach and we played exactly in this way in the last World Cup. Other managers may get us getting forward with more pace. It might not work, but we'd look very different. Hodgson reminds me of Van Gaal at Man Utd. He somehow contrives to get players of quality looking distinctively average. Quite solid, but dull and not playing their natural game. That's down to Hodgson. And Neville is no better.
Webbo Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Based on how England have performed in the tournament thus far, no-one can say that they deserved to qualify. They've got 5 points, undefeated, beat Wales. Why don't they deserve to qualify?

ScouseFox Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 we were well good, play like that every game and we'll win it. easy.
Livid Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 There was a point in the first half that summed it up for me. The ball went out to Clyne on the wing Llana is in front of him and instead of making a run and asking him to play him in he points for Clyne to play it back. We have been well and truly spoiled this season. This possession football England play is truly dreadful.
