Maybe he doesn't feel like he needs to be loyal to the club after what happened to his close friend NP.

Also Mendy is a CR buy, again maybe SW is a little peeved that Kante went and scouts see players that they have scouted as their own little projects.

This added to the fact that Everton have a different job offer plus the fact that they are embarking on a new project with big spending ahead

Well he hasn't joined Derby if he rates NP so much and thought we were after Mendy before CR got here and CR can also claim to have brought through talent Martial,Terry, Cech, etc if he goes lets wish him well and thank him, perhaps computer technology makes his job easier in monitoring targets for any replacement and perhaps we could argue we are also embarking on a big project with big spending ahead.

I'm struggling, but here is a positive spin on things.

The club maybe think that Walsh isn't DoF material. Ok, he's clearly a great judge of player, good coach and very likeable person, but as a DoF he will be negotiating with clubs, players and agents. To do so requires somebody ruthless, persuasive and head strong. Perhaps Walsh is too nice and quiet for that sort of role.

The club may also think the setup is already in place and the benefits of signing unproven, hungry players with good attitudes and worth ethics are obvious. Maybe the club feel confident that with this setup and philosophy in place, and with Ranieri to make the final call on which players to sign, we don't really NEED Walsh anymore.

This is all very disconcerting because so many clubs have got their transfer dealings horribly wrong for years. Signing expensive talented players, but collecting them rather than building a team. I always had this amazing sense confidence in the club when Walsh was here because I knew we did things right, singing good players who wanted to be part of a team and with no egos. With him gone it's all up in the air and it feels very strange.

My concern is that more players leave (+ probably Shakespeare), on silly minimum fee release clauses that Rudkin has allowed, and some of the new non-Walsh signings flop. The fans will turn on Rudkin, and the possibly owners, out of the frustration of blowing the best position this club has ever been in.

Positive spin, pre season games against Celtic,PSG, Barcelona and Man Utd at Wembley, Champions league football, breaking our transfer record twice in a week, making £25 million on a player who did not want to stay winning the league and everything being done by our beloved Leicester unless of course you only supported us for the glory so cheer up Rincy you could support Forest.

There are probably loads of little reasons:

More money

More responsibility

Nearer his family roots

What happened with Pearson

Not having the same role he used to here

Manager signing own players like Mendy

Hard work done on transfers like Kante scuppered with shit release clauses

I thought Mendy had been scouted by Walsh before Kante?

How much is Steve Walsh on anyway? Surely the club could offer him more if that's the issue?

Ah well, done the Premier League, now time to get back into our box I suppose!

Dunno about that, fist link I can find is days after Ranieri was announced, he's played with him before obviously. Kante was bid on long before that as we didn't have a manager at the time.

Ah OK, memory isn't what it used to be :)

Will be a big loss if he does go, but will go with my best wishes. Id like to think that his techniques and methods in recruitment have been imparted to others at the club. Plus we have to have some faith in Ranieri identifying some players too.

The one thing that does concern me is that we are spending so much time firefighting trying to keep our players and now staff here, i hope we still have enough effort going into new recruitment!

Thought it was generally accepted that we went after Mendy and the guy who went to Villa. Kante was always on the radar but became even more an important target when the other two didn't happen.

Outrageous if true.

This has to be the worst summer we've ever had. Makes me not want to watch football anymore. It's shit. How could we let this happen?

We're going down. Oh well

Not the way I remember it, rumours started about Kante very early. A bit of googling shows up these dates...

Kante rumours started around 17th June

Pearson leaves Leicester 30th June

Talk of a bid being made very early July when we had no manager (remember lots of chat on here about who was making the decisions with no manager)

Ranieri Joined 13th July

Mendy rumours around 17th July

Vertout bid was around 29th July

Kante Joined 3rd August

We know Ranieri took some persuading about Kante

Kante even talked about us not having a manager when they first bid not that long ago.

This summer was always going to be challenging. Atletico, Dortmund etc lost key players after winning their domestic leagues, even Southampton get torn apart every year, but they all re-build. Relax and enjoy what is still the best era in our history!

This ain't as cut and dry as Rob Tanner thinks...

I can't play down how big a loss this will be. He had a clear eye for talent. For me, what he does what was set us apart from so many other clubs of our size - it maximised what we got for our money as opposed to others in this league who throw silly money at average players. He didn't get every one right but even Fergie signed Anderson.

After such a strong fight against adversity last year it's almost as if we're saying "that's your lot". I've seen plenty of our fans have that mentality on here as well, almost as if whatever happens from now on is completely irrelevant, can't get my head around it.

I know we aren't your usual stature of champions but we shouldn't be getting picked apart this easily, by clubs who aren't even in Europe. Our top scout, our best player and our top academy coach all gone in the space of about a fortnight. I can't put a positive spin on that.

it's his job to find players like that, it's not a mistake or good fortune. He clearly spotted something others ignored.

if anything it shows how important his eye is and how wrong the stats team can get it sometimes.

Did you quote the wrong post? I'm confused lol

I believe there is a chance based on my post first thing this morning

the staff have seen him leave but has he actually gone and said goodbye or can he convinced to come back ??

its not much of a straw but it's all we have I think.

The worst thing about this is the timing of it all.

For the best head of recruitment we've had to leave during the most important transfer window in our history, is far from ideal.

Well, maybe not. I think it's likely that the list of targets we've identified is known by others at the club. If so, then we'll only feel the effects of losing Walsh further down the line - maybe next season or the one after.
