The 29-year-old Denmark international played every minute of Leicester City’s historic 2015/16 Premier League winning campaign and has been a key member of the squad since his arrival in the summer of 2011. Schmeichel’s performances throughout the season were crucial to the Foxes’ march to the title, and with just 11 Premier League goals conceded in 2016, the quality at the very top level was there for all to see. Speaking to LCFC TV, Schmeichel said:"I'm just buzzing and I can't wait for the season to get started. It was a very easy decision. It was a case of coming back after winning the Premier League and making sure that the hunger was the same within myself and the squad. I've come back absolutely convinced that this is the place for me to be. "We've taken some massive steps and ever since I arrived it's been fantastic. I've loved being here from minute one." image: http://www.lcfc.com/cms_images/match/569698369-215280-3103681.JPG With 220 Leicester City appearances to his name, Schmeichel is one of the most experienced members of the current squad. That total also includes another ever-present season as the Foxes secured the Championship title under Nigel Pearson in 2013/14. Alongside his outstanding talent for keeping the ball out of the net, Schmeichel’s distribution and quick thinking with the ball have proved to be a significant weapon in Leicester City’s counter-attacking armoury in recent years. The success of Schmeichel and Leicester City since his arrival from Leeds United in 2011 is nothing short of meteoric, and with his new deal keeping him at the Club until 2021, there’s plenty of time for him to enhance his reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the Club’s long history. image: http://www.lcfc.com/cms_images/player/pa-19214437280-1602066.jpg A Manchester City youth product, Schmeichel has also had spells with Darlington, Bury, Falkirk, Cardiff City, Coventry City and Notts County during his career, which now totals almost 400 appearances in all competitions. Following those loan stints at Darlington and Falkirk at the start of his career, Schmeichel made the first of eight Premier League appearances for Manchester City in August 2007 in a 2-0 win away at West Ham United, after which came another two clean sheets in 1-0 wins at home to Derby County and Manchester United. image: http://www.lcfc.com/cms_images/player/schmeichel-4-3-lc7807-005280-3228560.jpg The 2011/12 Leicester City Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year made his debut for the Denmark national team in February 2013 against Macedonia. Another cap against Malta followed before he almost single-handedly kept England at bay in a 1-0 friendly defeat at Wembley in March 2014. After being named in the Football League Team of the Decade alongside City skipper Wes Morgan in 2015, Schmeichel has gone on to establish himself as no.1 for Denmark as well as building a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most talented goalkeepers.

lifted*fox Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Good. Let's hope what he says about the hunger still being the same throughout the squad is true. If it is, we're in for another good season.
Matt Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Brilliant! Just sort the kicking out and I cannot fault him!
CPW22 Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Fantastic news, another key member of the dressing room signing a long term deal.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Good news. Hope he's not on the reported £100k a week, though, there's probably only five goalkeepers in the world worth that.
Tuna Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 If he stays fit, and stays number 1 and fulfills that contract, he'll have made nearly 400 appearances for the club Very important to have a good goalkeeper to build the team around. Remember, it's not long ago we had Tony Warner, Chris Weale, Rab Douglas, Chris Kirkland and Ricardo.
MC Prussian Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 I like the way this season is shaping up - securing the services of nearly all key players on long-term contracts. And even if the team were to be broken up, the club would see nice amounts of £££ as compensation. Thank you for signing the new contract, Kasper! Well done and all the best for the upcoming campaign! You've been at the club for a few years now and are one of our longest-serving players. Great to see loyalty being rewarded.
Corky Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Can't believe he's been here five years already, gone so quickly.
Fox92 Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Really hope it's nowhere near the reported 100k a week.
Vlad the Fox Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 19 minutes ago, Corky said: Can't believe he's been here five years already, gone so quickly. And leeds fans told us he was crap and would be gone after a year when a better offer came in.
Jaspa Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Noice, shows he's perfectly happy and confident to compete with Zeiler Also from outside obviously he's a big guy in the squad identity and mentality. Still more to build and this guy is a solid foundation
Izzy Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Like a fine wine, he gets better as he gets older. Not even in his prime years for a keeper these days so can only improve IMO. Key member of the team, great leader and all round top bloke. Shows great intent that he's signed for another 5 years. Good news indeed...
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Good news No w we have two high quality 'keepers.
Guest WarehamFox Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 One of Sven's successful signings! Long may he improve!
lgfualol Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 Good news. Hope he celebrates it with a clean sheet tomorrow.
lcfcnsk Posted 6 August 2016 Posted 6 August 2016 http://www.lcfc.com/news/article/2016-17/schmeichel-the-place-for-me-to-be-3230180.aspx Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has vowed to continue to work hard for the Club after signing a new five-year deal on Saturday. - Kasper Schmeichel says it’s ‘massive’ for him to sign a new five-year deal with the Club - The stopper committed his future to Leicester City on Saturday - Schmeichel believes playing in the UEFA Champions League will be an amazing experience for the Club’s players and fans - Experiencing the highs and lows of football has created a tight-knit bond between the City squad, according to Schmeichel Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has vowed to continue to work hard for the Club after signing a new five-year deal on Saturday. The Foxes stopper signed a new contract that runs until June 2021, having already played a significant role in the Club’s success over the past five years since joining from Notts County in 2011. Schmeichel won the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year Awards during his debut season at the Club and helped City secure promotion to the Premier League two years later, before playing every minute in the 2015/16 title-winning campaign. After committing to a further five years, Schmeichel told LCFC TV: “I’m delighted – we’ve been talking for a while now and finally come to an agreement, so I’m buzzing and I can’t wait for the season to start. “It was a case of coming back after having won the Premier League, making sure that the hunger was the same within myself and the squad. I’m absolutely convinced that this is the place for me to be. “We’ve taken some massive steps and ever since I’ve arrived, it’s been fantastic from minute one. Everyone has welcomed me ever since I walked through the door. “Obviously it’s massive – five years is a long time in football and that obviously means a lot that the Club wants to sign me up for so long. “I’m just going to be working harder each day to become a better goalkeeper for Leicester. I want to try and improve myself and ultimately that will be good for the Club.” A debut season in the UEFA Champions League beckons for Schmeichel and his Leicester City team-mates, and it’s one that not just the players, but also the fans will be exhilarated by, according to the ‘keeper. “There are a lot of things to look forward to,” said the Denmark international. “This Club has taken a massive step and we’re looking to keep building on that and I’m looking to be a part of that. “Everyone can’t wait for that (the Champions League). It’s going to be a fantastic experience for the players and fans. “We’ve had a little taste of it going to Sweden and the type of atmosphere that our fans can create when they go abroad. We’re hoping we can do really well for them in the Champions League, put on a good show and reach the latter stages.” Schmeichel becomes the sixth member of the first team to sign a new contract this summer, with Wes Morgan, Jamie Vardy, Andy King, Marcin Wasilewski and Ben Chilwell also committing their future to the Club. “It’s a massive thing to sign up the players who have helped get us here,” Schmeichel added. “A lot of the players are ones that I have worked for four or five years. Kingy (Andy King) was obviously before me, but the big skipper (Wes Morgan) signing as well has been massive for everybody. “We’ve experience a lot of highs and lows together. We’ve been through a lot of things in football both on and off the pitch. The experiences we’ve had like getting promoted and winning the league – those sort of things bond you together forever. “When I signed, I thought we definitely had potential to get to the Premier League and do well. It was a dream to win the Premier League. “Something inside me has always said that one day I’d achieve it. I’ve got to be honest, I didn’t think I would achieve it as quickly as I did, but it’s been fantastic.”
