Sporting fans are now all buzzing with that release clause agreement :D

It suits them to believe it.  I'm sure we don't mind them selling their fans with a large fee if in fact we are paying way below it.  Not if it helps to get the deal done.

Oddly enough, I was just able to upvote a post.

So the quote might be a 25 every 24 hours type thing, or resets at 10 or so?

If/when these deals are confirmed, you wouldn't have stolen them. You'll have payed what we feel we're due. But there was a time when we sold team captains for 750K, just so we'd have enough cash to pay for utilities... But thankfully, those days are gone.

Was/is he wrong? IT wasn't so much a jab at the foxes, it was reinforcing the point that the player fancied himself worth so much, and yet only had an offer from a (at that time) mid-table premier league club.

Was it demeaning, and chosen poorly? Yes. But you have to understand the chain of events. That jackass was an influential player, with whom we'd be trying to review and extend his contract for nearly a year. His agent, a gigantic A-hole, got seduced by those shady funds people doyen sports, and decided to screw Sporting and Bruno de Carvalho, so naturally, our president was annoyed and frustrated.

One thing you need to understand about football, it's a business. There's a shit-ton of money going around, and you cannot afford to be anything but practical. Vengeance, spite, etc. will only screw you over sooner or later. Bruno de Carvalho summed it up rather nicely on an interview a few weeks back:

"I'll put up with a massive SOB for 100 years, if it's beneficial for the club."

Leagues? Economies, you mean. Our league is stronger than Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, but they pay better than us, so we feed to them as well.

On another note, I don't buy these numbers being floated around. Last night, they were talking about a combined 70 or 80 million, now it's down to 60, with Adrien (still) going for 25? That's a long way away from the 45 release fee for a player we're not prepared to lose, and have little time to adequately replace. Whatever the case, this is going to be a very long (and interesting) day.

I'd reckon the figures quoted 25M rising to 30M are in pounds not euros, so you could possibly get £60M, over 70M euro, which i think will be a good offer for you guys. I know it's gutting because we've gone through all of this with our players and coaching staff, a few of which have left, but hopefully your team can get over the loss.

As optimistic as ever Finny :D

I don't mean the transfer, I mean the rumour. Absolutely no chance we're paying nearly forty million for this guy.

Not possible. We have to report all deals over 10M euros, and all the variables and comissions will appear in the financial report later this season. Besides, we're all for transparency and information, given the fact that we've had enough of that under the table bullshit in the past.

It's the way things are over here... If we could afford to keep our best talent, we'd destroy everything in our path. 10 of the 14 players that won the Paris final are Sporting Academy graduates.

Going to United helped him become the player he is now physically and mentally.

I can see the silva deal being undisclosed from the SCP end. They will claim we paid the release clause but I'm very sure we won't!

Sporting CP will not do that because this board/chairman don't work that away and.. all big transfers will have an Sporting CP mandatory official statement to the stock market - and it must be a true statement, because of the financial reports at the end of the season and also CMVM [portuguese stock market security and regulator] woud fine SCP.

They are a listed company so legally have to disclose transfer fees to the stock exchange

I'm not saying the real fee wont be disclosed in the end.  We would prefer it anyway (if it is lower than reported), but it suits your board for today to let your fans thinks you are getting a larger fee.  It's classic politics, grab the headlines and bury the real news when most people have already forgotten about it.
