Good luck to Gokhan. A top professional even though it just didn't quite work out here. He still has quality and showed us glimpses of that. All the best to him.

He was neither expensive nor a flop. For one, he cost Napoli about £15m back in 2011 meaning it was a relatively cheap deal for a Swiss international (and the national side's captain at the time).

As for the flop part, he had few chances in the first team and put in some disappointing performances, but I'd call him a "flop" if his contribution to the team was detrimental to the team's success. And as others have stated, his effect on the other players should not be underestimated, in particular in helping to form our other midfielders and giving advice and being a worthwile influence in training with his experience.

Had a good chat with him back in May at a local event - he loved the club and the fans, loved the village. I wonder if he left his car behind

We really have no quantifiable measure of how much he helped with that, nor how much he contributed to the team spirit. He strikes me as a team player and never (publicly) sulked, which to me says he didn't have a negative effect. Maybe his presence kept the other midfielders on their toes, but the likely summary is that he was surplus to requirements and thus a lesser waste of time and money. Hindsight is beautiful, isn't it?

I get that he's Swiss and all Alex but he was a flop.

He was the Swiss captain and a regular at a top serie a club. We all had high hopes. He barely kicked a ball.

Definite flop, flop not nesc someone who is detrimental to the teams cause just someone who nowhere near met expectation and sorry, I did not expect Gokhan Inler to struggle getting on our bench half the time.

Shame really because he's obviously a good footballer - captained Switzerland and played over 100 times for two top Seria A sides - but it never did work out here as I don't think he suited our style. Best of luck to him, mind.

he just didn't fit into the way we play football and could not get used to the league.still a good player but wanted and needed lots of time on the ball which he just didn't get it playing for us

the swiss guy making himself look like a bigger idiot than normal by pretending inler has been a good signing all year has literally been the only good thing about signing him

We'd have all given up a testicle for Inler several years ago.

Shame for him that it didn't work out but, like Kram, he was bought for a different manager and ultimately a different style of football

And off to ignore you go.

He was just unfortunate to join us for our best ever season, the couple of chances he had to impress he unfortunately didn't take and with the team pretty much unchanged he was never going to get a look in.

Huge flop!  Lets not pretend any different.

He was brought in to run the midfield.  You can say that the form of Drinky and Kante kept him out but lets get real, any supensions or sub appearances were covered by Andy King.  He couldn't get near the team cus he was garbage.

We play a much different to style from what he is used to. I can remember him playing against Manchester United where the game was slower and he looked good. A player that is "garbage" does not captain a good national side in Switzerland or play over 100 times for a side like Napoli.

It didn't work out, that's all, but he's far from "garbage".
