Have our prayers been answered???

only we could have a player in team of the tournament (I think he played one game in midfield) and keep huth and morgan playing ahead of him in that position!

where do you want him played! centre back? full back? sweeper? midfield? he can play in different positions but really needs to master one of them! is still really young and as the old saying goes 'needs time'. has the look of a confidence player that he needs his managers approval and needs to be playing in a team that is doing well and i fear if he is put in this team his confidence and therefore his performances will suffer

You've got to put him in surely. He's already mentally prepared at game level and pretty sure he's had a few decent strikers up against him in that tournament.

I would be licking my lips at the thought of having some fresh energy in that position, or just having an option to try, that's not a complete unknown! Who would give way though.... Huth or Morgan, not that it really matters.

The thing is, thinking back now when Amartey played at CM he showed ability there with his passing and ball retention. To me, he looked fairly comfortable in possession. Before the AFCON he was gaining confidence game by game, and was starting to play his game higher up the field at times too. Which brings me to the point, he could be the "ball playing CB" we were looking for, because at both Copenhagen and Ghana he's shown his capability of bringing the ball out of defence.

I feel like if he had an experienced CB alongside him, he'd potentially do really well. I remember when we played Norwich (H) in the 2015/16 season when Amartey filled in at RB, Morgan was frequently talking to him through the game, giving him hints and pointers. Certainly an option I'd think about utilising in the defensive line.

I'd play him alongside Morgan ASAP.

Amartey is another case of a player becoming better the longer he's out of the team. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

People are forgetting he was getting slated a lot on here before he went to Africa.

Actually the tide had started to turn a bit from what I remember as he became more consistent.

I think Wednesday is the perfect opportunity to play him at CB. Whether that be in a 2 with Morgan or Huth, or in a 3 if CR wants to try a 3-5-2 formation again

You maybe right, but the current pairing are that bad, I think we all just want something to change, it can't really be much worse now can it?

I'd be happy to see him given a run alongside Huth, With Ndidi in midfield with Drinky and get Slim up top with some service into the box, we may just do enough to stay up.

I'm not saying I want him to do it.....but it wouldn't surprise me lol

 True :)

I know it's drastic to drop four players, but right now I'm tempted just to rip up the defence completely. It's not just how poor they are defensively, but how little they offer the team going forward. The confidence of all four players looks totally shot.

I'm not a big fan of sweeping changes... But ff we did line up on Wednesday with a back four of Albrighton - Ndidi - Amartay - Chilwell then I really wouldn't have a problem with that. I'd be pleased that at least Ranieri had acknowledged that there's a big problem and was doing something about it. Switching from a back four to a back three would be like re-arranging the deck-chairs on the Titanic :D

More realistically though, Simpson - Amartay - Morgan - Chilwell would at least look like an improvement on paper to the currently "Four Donkeys of the Aapocalypse".

The thing that I can't get my head around  is how the hell our back four were so damn good last season!

The last time we started Albrighton at RB we lost 3-0, with 2 goals

coming directly down his side.

Before going to the tournament, I was starting to see that Amartey was finding his feet and putting more of a consistent performance game by game. At the beginning, I would have agreed with you, but I do think that now he feels settled and knows a bit more of the premier league, he is getting better.

I would definitely play him at CB at some point. Can't get any worse in that position and with the arrival of Ndidi, his place in the midfield is more of a fight. His very mobile and strong, so alongside either Huth or Morgan, I think he'll be fine.

Shame we didn't play 3-5-2 v Chelsea

we might have known what we were doing

for me, Claudio's biggest errors this season have been playing 3 at the back and not 5-2 ahead as we did two seasons ago

we don't have the players for 3-4-3

Play him at CB on Weds!

Huth looked knackered during the Man U game, and is sooooo slow.

Amartey and Morgan. Or Amartey and Benny please. We will go down if we persist with Huth and Morgan, so weds is a good chance to try Amartey there at least.

just a thought would anyone try 3 at the back, with amartey's return? amartey, morgan, wague?? 3 relatively athletic CB's, allowing us to play higher up the pitch & mahrez can have a free role.

Sure Albrighton was awful at RWB against Chelsea, but we know from our great escape he can play there.

Amartey at CB would be worst than Huth. The only reason he struggles at DM is because he loses concentration and doesn't track. He isn't our saviour. His passing is far better than his defensive work.

if amartey is playing in a 3 at the back, the game will mostly be played infront of him and he'll also have 2 other CB's to support him. at DM in midfield, is where his lack of concentration gets exposed as you say, because he loses runners etc.

however i agree, i think he'd be exposed at CB in our current system.

Another player who should be a fringe player player learning his trade in the toughest league in the world.

Not sure he's ready to play CB, but we have little choice but to make a change!

I'd like to see him tried at CB.

Question is, who would he partner? Morgan or Huth? After the last game I would say Huth, but that would suggest Amartey would need to be play LCB, as history tells us Morgan can only play on the right...
