As soon as we get the ball into the opposition half everybody takes about 10 touches each, we're getting nowhere.
CORNFOX68 Posted 26 September 2016 Posted 26 September 2016 I think saturday was nothing to do with grappling, 1st goal huth morgan one of them should have attacked the ball and didnt, the mata goal fuchs was tracking mata then just stopped leaving him free, third goal amartey was admiring the stretford end and let his man get away from him set rashford up, last goal pogba just out muscled fuchs, forget grappling we just need to attack the ball and concentrate. .

crazyleicester Posted 26 September 2016 Posted 26 September 2016 When you are at the games you miss so much of what goes on but its funny when I end up watching us live on TV you get to see what madness goes on by some players and Huth (especially) and Wes are total nutcases in our own peno box. I remember watching some of our games laughing my head off along with some mates as we couldn't work out why the ref or lino kept on missing their antics, once again especially Huths. It got to a stage when we put a fiver into the pot before kick off so we could guess what minute Huth would concede a peno or get sent off. As the club whose player was "the giver" it was awesome fun but we knew it couldnt last. Its similar to Shawcross at Stoke. That dude at one stage was regarded as an excellent no nonsense defender until refs clocked on what he was up to. They seemed to target him and the last 2-3 seasons he has gone from future England International to now a bit of a laughing stock as a defender who cant do anything right. His WWE moves in the box are now not acceptable and his usefulness for Stoke has deteriorated. Whilst both Morgan and Huth are still class in some of the things they do like blocking shots and tackling they are less effective in the box and we have to remember with age their energy levels will drop as will their pace. I know neither are that fast anyway but when you change the rules on defending players like this will suffer. They still have plenty to offer along with the rest of our defenders but they better learn zonal marking or find another way or we will continue to ship goals from set pieces.
fazzyfox Posted 26 September 2016 Posted 26 September 2016 If as it seems, the threat of being penalised is affecting the way we defend set pieces (no more bear hugging) then surely that goes both ways and means Morgan, Huth, Slimani and Ulloa will have clear unchallenged runs at the other end for our set pieces (Slimani's first vs Burnley for example). We may have benefitted more than others in the past defensively but should we now look forward to our Centre halves going up and scoring 5 or 6 goals a season and Slimani having multiple opportunities in each game. Also need to buy Crouchy in January and pitch the ball high if no one's going to get away with a hold or pull.

Time for our coaches to get their finger outcand earn their money and Claudio to tell the players, not to talk or even think of such diabolical rubbish... Now I am angry...If our players have failed their basic football intelligence tests time to replace them with the the academy players.. If our defence on that premise sell the fans short, then this forum has the right and should go into meltdown.

This is the problem it is not that we can't defend corners, we were fine against Swansea, Arsenal and Burnley but the rule changes mean it isn't second nature, they are thinking about what they have to do and we all know how dangerous it is when a footballer has to think. They don't just have to do something new, but they also have to actively not follow their instincts. It will lead to mistakes.

Could be time for wing backs again at least against teams that will sling the ball in to the big men. Wing backs coming from Schlupp, Fuchs and Albrighton midfield trio from Drinky, Mendy, Amartey and King with Mahrez, Vardy, Slimani, Gray, Okazaki, Ulloa providing the forward options.

Exactly this of corners have become more difficult to defend then we not only have to adapt how we defend them but also start scoring from them ourselves!

Keep with Plan A - that won us the league ffs.

Yes we was fortunate with our approach dealing with corners last season but that doesn't mean you can concede 3 corners within 10 minutes. We are lacking communication and concentration! When a ball gets rolled into the front post from a corner and then played across the 6 yard box that is a worrying sign! None of that required being 'scared' of conceding a penalty, that is purely dreadful defending!

Too many fouls given away through ariel challenges wether we are attacking or defending.
