Morgan - Clumsy and scarily average without Huth or Schmeichel. Wasilewski - Done at this level Hernandez - Good freebie but not seen him much at CB to judge Benalouane - Not sure he will play for us again Average age about 40. What were we thinking in the Summer?
Gazza M Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 I would like to have seen Benny registered with us. He is probably the most mobile CB we have in the squad. However we know that a young CB was needed in the summer also.
Russell sprout Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 You couldn't foresee the bad defending we've done,nor could the coaching staff, weve been done over by 3 of the top 6 this season in there own backyard,start asking questions at xmas time,not now,there good players having bad games,there's no need to start wanting rid of them

Fox92 Posted 16 October 2016 Posted 16 October 2016 Our preparation for this season was laughable... Going into this season with numerous aging centre backs and Hernandez who is also slow. I'd rather we play Hernandez at centre back now instead of Morgan anyway. We need to buy in Jan, seriously.

Also no quality to replace for injuries and suspensions. Enough of us on here were saying we needed a RB and two quality CB's. I don't think any of us thought we would need them because our players were piss poor though.

What were we thinking in the Summer? Hernandez was bought in but as far as I am aware spent most of his time playing CB in Spain. As for asking what we were thinking, well we were thinking an English Central Defender who has now been called up into the current England squad (Michael Keane). They seemingly wanted too much money. I know he is clumsy regarding ball distribution but I`d make a move for Sakho from Liverpool. He is out of favour and his career is going nowhere at the moment. He is still 26 and I think he is the type of no nonsense defender we need but with a bit more pace.

He moved there in the EFL when wasyl got sent off and didn't look that comfortable.. (He was up against costa though) hernandez seems just about ok as a full back against mediocre CL teams but up against decent PL teams will expose him. We under estimate how much sweeping up behind the centre halves Simpson gets through. Luis isn't really a full back and therefore this covering doesn't come naturally to him. analyse the goals we are conceding and my view (no shit Sherlock) is a lack of concentration. we managed to keep it together for the whole 90 mins each game last year (once the full backs were changed) but this season we are just not there mentally. perhaps the come down from the high of last may needs to work itself through and getting there for the CL fixtures and home matches is about all we can manage at present. We also have precious little planning time for these difficult games compared to last year, especially if Claudio is prioritising analysis of the CL opposition and giving the players less tactical ammunition ahead of the away PL fixtures preceding them.
