Unfortunately a lot of Leicester so called supporters love finding fault, it's the way of the world these days, look at the errors people make, not what they do well. All the the lads put in a shift tonight and we deserved to win, CH put in plenty of high balls, but no criticism forthcoming from our resident experts. Ranieri deserves a lot of credit, but doubt he will get much.
UPinCarolina Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 Interested now to see what the weekend holds vs Crystal Palace. Especially the starting lineup. Amazing times, no doubt - may this propel us towards righting the ship this weekend.

kushiro Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 Glancing at the lower reaches of the second division (as we used to call it) table this morning it really brought home what many on here have said: 12th place: Ipswich (former UEFA Cup winners) 13th place: Leeds (former Fairs Cup winners) 15th place: Wolves (dubbed unofficial champions of Europe by the media in the early 50s) 16th place: Forest (former European Cup winners) 17th place: Villa (ditto) 20th place: Derby (once European Cup semi-finalists) 21st place: Blackburn (one of a small group of English teams that have appeared in the Champions League) - i.e. better appreciate this special season - we don't know when we'll have another one.
MC Prussian Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 The first 35 minutes were a real mess and the sad part is that the aimless hoofing didn't stop with the first half. You've got to give it to the team that they stuck in as the game progressed and that they gave Copenhagen a better match once the referee had whistled for the second three quarters of an hour. We gave Copenhagen too much space and time to dominate midfield, all those lost passes led to high possession stats for the visitors. Luckily for us, they couldn't manage to hit the target, as oftentimes they got stuck in our back four. We were toothless up front for large parts of the game, either Vardy or Slimani didn't receive the ball as often as they should or they mishit it, putting it either straight at the Copenhagen keeper or wide. It felt like a seamless continuation of the Chelsea away game, with little action to cheer about. Also, hardly any balls were kept on the ground and passed through the middle. We were willfully giving up the possession in favour of what seemed to be Ranieri's intention of going on fast breaks. Trouble is, with a few exceptions it never really worked. Last season's recipe in this campaign doesn't appear to fit at all, as Vardy could hardly get past the Copenhagen defense and Albrighton and Drinkwater were unable to control their long balls which lacked a huge dose of precision. Mahrez, who was mostly anonymous, giving us the lead (also making it the winner later on) came out of nowhere and felt like a product by accident. Good chances on goal we had maybe two or three. That this one went in, I put part down to luck. We didn't deserve to take the lead at that point, as Copenhagen played better. But it's a sign of a proper team when you play badly and still score the opener, I suppose. I can't recall any player having a particularly good game, although I am happy for King who more and more silently dominated his position in midfield the longer the game went on. Glad about the three points and another clean sheet - hugely kept by Schmeichel's heroics, not just that late save against Cornelius towards the very end. The performance, however, was disappointing for long periods of the 90. We can and we have to do better. And please no more late substitutions. Ranieri practically begged for an equalizer when Copenhagen went on to bombard our box in the last ten, fifteen minutes. We were way too deep then and only avoided dropping points in extremis and in a nerve-racking finale.

Still, it's all good confidence boosting and let's take this into the PL Cognitive dissonance for me - Thrilled we have taken 9 points and 3 clean sheets in the CL... But very concerned about our shakiness at the back and lack of firepower in attack, both in this and the PL. Still, well done to Claudio and the lads. They are making us dream again.... 7 hours ago, ramboacdc said: Correct me if I'm wrong but my maths says we need 2 points to guarantee qualification? I am happy we got the 3 points but I think it's time for the owners to start thinking about replacing Ranieri. He's just simply a mediocre coach. He was lucky last season he coattailed the lads' momentum but now he is simply destroying this team. His nonsense press conferences (he talks and talks but doesn't say anything of value) tell you everything you'd need to know about his complete incompetence.

Any PL side would have beaten us to tonight. Ranieri is very limited and cannot find alternatives. Time to look elsewhere before the team self destructs.

But also be disappointed with some absolute horse shit football that we've served up in all three games. The margins are very fine in football and we've had a slice of luck we haven't in the prem this year. In every game the oppo could easily of had a few goals and missed some great chances. The football today, especially first half was utterly woeful. Hoof, hoof, hoof... Oh another hoof. We're better then that, as we showed on the few occasions we decided to pass it on the floor and then support the player. First half I lost count of how many times someone received the ball and then everyone just ran away from him leaving no simple ball, leading to an inevitable punt. It feels like through last season and this we heard people say we were just a counter attacking / long ball team and abandoned the decent football we were also capable of, in favour of the over the top ball every other kick. At our best that's not just what we can do, we had and have more ability than that. That's what's so disappointing. Anyway, a great three points and a great champions league so far! Can't fault the points on the board. Spot on!
Aidan Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 8 hours ago, Grewks said: With all due respect a 1-0 win at home to Copenhagen, is in my opinion, our weakest home result of the season. Some are getting over excited about the gloss of the Champions League. They started with a lad up top tonight who was utter doggo at Cardiff, and the lad alongside him, is rated even worse. Yes we won. Winning whilst playing poorly is great. But we will be nearer to 20th than 17th playing like that this season. I am with you on this.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 Aimess hoofing for the most part. 3 wins from 3 looks great but we were awful. Last season we played direct, fast, counter attacking football. This season we are playing like Wimbledon used to. Imagine what is going to happen to us in the last 16 when we play a proper team and keep giving them the ball back. Unless we get our mojo back we are in for a disappointing season.
STUHILL Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 Guess I will be critcised for being negative after 3 from 3, but I thought we were pretty damn awful but luckily Copenhagen were worse. I thought Mahrez seemed really up for it, in attack and defence and Slimani is still showing up Vardy for work rate, however, I thought Vardy looked a little better. The amount of long hopeless balls though was painful. Albrighton and Drinkwater especially, seemed to be rushing balls over the top to nobody. Not sure whether it is Claudio demanding quick, long balls or just the players trying to force it, but it is just not working and against a better side, we would have been punished. A great result, but we are still way off in terms of performance. Hopefully we will get to see that against Crystal Palace. Would like to see Amartey and Gray start and hopefully Musa can get some game time too.

Ranieri deserves a lot of credit, but doubt he will get much. Ridiculous. If "so called supporters" actually want to call the game as they saw it they can, it doesn't make you any more of a fan sat there deluded we played well and that there wasn't clearly still a lot of problems. As for Copenhagen, at least they attempted to pass and move and work the ball up the pitch, yes much of it ended with a cross or "high ball", but most of it wasn't aimless hoofing with nothing else. They also don't have a team anywhere near as expensive as ours, they also aren't performing below standard as we have been. A better team would have put us to the sword again last night.
Foxhateram Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 But we gave the ball back to the opposition as often last season. Hence us having such low possesion facts. Tonight was like last seasons side and we looked good. We did score 2 goals remember and the second (which was not bloody offside!) was really well worked. In spells we also played some good football and kept the ball much better. Not sure where all the negativity is coming from! We just won against a side with a very strong team who haven't lost for a fairly long amount of time. King a stand out performer for me. His big challenges and interceptions were vital tonight. He has to start against Palace now. A step above Amartey who's positioning i feel is often questionable, despite his quality of holding up the ball. As for late subs. I think Ulloa and Okazaki were the right changes. Okazaku helped us fill the midfield a little more and Ulloa always offers extra height for defending and also knocking on Scheichels distribution. Overall I think we arrived with a plan and pulled it off. On to the next game please.
CosbehFox Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 Hoof! We'd turned into Levein era tactics first half. If the long balls were more accurate and played in the channel between full back/centre back, we'd have got more change as they were playing such a high line. The issue was when you play so many aimless hoofs you've gotta get the team up the pitch and win the second phase of possession which we simply did better in the second half.
Mikey Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 Thought first half we were really quite poor. Long ball after long ball after long ball. Very lucky to be ahead I thought. 2nd half was much better. Kept the ball on the floor better, defended well, and what a save from Kasper at the end.
ThurmastonFox Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 Good result, Copenhagen fans were lively. Disappointed to see blocks of seats empty in the west stand, guess they were uefa returns. All in all an industrial performance which got us 3 more points.
GloverFox Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 Un-frigging believable ..... just got into work to be confronted by one man shitty fan and one spudder fan both whining that we got an easy group and that all the teams in our group are championship level at best!!!! F@@king really !!! Number 6 Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 Very poor first half. Least we could do after an aimless hoof is aim to win the second balls but we rarely did. Pressing and closing players down was improved though. Was a bit strange seeing Vardy wide so frequently. Second half started much better. A good spell which should have culminated in the slim goal. Seemed to then ease off and try to hold out and would have failed were it not for a wonder save. Can't afford to play like that against Palace but we'll get through the group as winners now for sure. Got to see someone fill the void between the two banks of 4 and striker now. Is so obvious and has been for weeks.
Callabinho Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 It was like watching a Micky Adams side last night at times. Play like that against palace and we will get hung out to dry.

foxinsocks Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 There was a nice period of play in 2nd half.... what was missing in first half? Movement.... strikers making runs or circles... midfielders running thru. We will need to play that well on sat Imo okazaki is key to breaking up play and adding verv and options going fwd. I know many fans are sentimental about king. .... i thought he was a spectator last night. .. no way was he ahead of drinky for mom. Don't know what elliot is thinking. If amarty was a part of that team he must be good.
Crinklyfox Posted 19 October 2016 Posted 19 October 2016 There have been quite a few comments that we didn't play that well last night and I have to agree that I've seen City play better. But we're coming off league form that has been disappointing to say the least. When I saw the team selection my first impression was that Ranieri had gone back to basics - with the exception of Simpson for De Laet and Slimani for Ulloa that looked like the team we started the Premier League with last season. The play was also basic - stick to one tactic that had worked last season, the ball over the top to Vardy, and see how the opposition cope. The result wasn't pretty but the final score was. Every win breeds confidence and sometimes you have to go back to move forward, so no complaints from me about last night, I just hope that we can now build on it and improve as we did before.

Bleddy 'ell, wins the Prem and we're in the Champions League for the first time yet it's time to look elsewhere ha. Even Guardiola wouldn't be able to stop the hoofing in this team. I think it says more about the limited players than Ranieri.
