Alf Bentley Posted 8 November 2016 Posted 8 November 2016 Who's staying up for some of this, then? I'll give it at least 2-3 hours to try to understand that massive, weird country/continent a little better - and to understand what the winner might do different from Obama. I suppose that it's too much to hope that it might all be clear by about 2am, isn't it? Most of the "swing states" are in the East and they stop voting earlier than us, I believe, so you never know.....but I bet they're still there in a month's time, counting hanging chads in Florida and having gunfights outside polling stations.

I think if it's over by 3am it'll be a Hilary landslide..... I expect to fall asleep and wake up at 6am to some kind of sick feeling in the pits of my guts as I try to make sense of whats happened.

Sounds like the occasion in my misspent youth when I woke up at breakfast time on a train that had just arrived in Paris - and I was supposed to be in Marseille (it had been a good night out in Basel). If Clinton does win, one of the most interesting things will be Trump's reaction: will he call the result rigged and how will his more fanatical supporters respond to that? I suppose there could be real surprises in store: Trump doing better than expected in struggling, mainly white "rust belt" states (Pennsylvania, Michigan etc.) but worse than expected in heavily Mexican states like Nevada & Arizona? I've just got my 2am/3am snacks in....

I'll be staying up for as long as I can, as people can probably tell I've got more than a vested interest in the result this time round. All Hillary needs to do is hold onto Penn and Colorado. With her other more likely holdings and adding just one of Florida, Nevada, North Carolina or my future homestead...that really should be enough.

I would be impressed with him for the first time if he accepted defeat with grace but its not his style - if he does lose I would expect him to spit his dummy, scream fix and foul play and slander and smear. If he wins, I'll genuinely be mortified for global futures.
foxy boxing Posted 8 November 2016 Posted 8 November 2016 this time tomorrow we will know who the next president is, will it make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things? will the last person to leave the united states please turn out the lights?

Wymsey Posted 8 November 2016 Posted 8 November 2016 Can't be the only one who looks at Clinton and thinks 'oh no, she's going to feint soon' instantly. Hasn't looked her best recently.

I certainly will be, I absolutely love an election night, I'll have my prep sheets and sausage rolls ready. With the World Series last week, this tonight and the 5 test matches in India over the next 5 weeks, I'll be seeing more of the early hours than the daytime until Christmas, not good for the body clock. The BBC coverage is being fronted from America by Andrew Neil as well, which makes it even more of a must watch. He's found it very hard over the last few weeks to hide his distain for both of the candidates. 2 hours ago, leicsmac said: I'll be staying up for as long as I can, as people can probably tell I've got more than a vested interest in the result this time round. Hillary is going to win, there is just too much for Trump to do to win, virtually everything has to go his way now and with Florida looking like to go Clinto that about does it. Although Penn now a 25% chance for Trump, up from 15% yesterday in 538. 1 hour ago, Swan Lesta said: If he wins, I'll genuinely be mortified for global futures. You should be moritfied if either wins, we're either heading for a President who is openly bigoted and could oppress minorites or we are heading for one who will be starting wars all over the Middle East, fighting with Russia and probably leaving hundreds of thousands of people dead.

In a world with Trump and Farage in it, I find that incredible! I'm not in love with Hilary at all but its not her first time in the White House - Bill was an amazing spokesperson but she was always the brains behind the presidency. A female president isn't such a bad thing for the USA and I reckon also she has to sound more 'war mongering' and strong minded / have a preparedness to address and balance a number of contemporary issues and some that she faces as a female in American politics.

Was she? Her decisions as secretary of state don't strike me a someone who was the brains behind anything, certainly the arming of the Syrian rebels when it was obvious to anyone with any knowledge of the conflict they were going to end up in the hands of Al Nusra or IS. I fully expect her to win, but I'm just as fearful about the future under her presidency as much, I don't hold out any special hope she'll be good because she has a vagina, although it will probably bode well for us in having a female leader to talk with her.

RedSoxUK Posted 8 November 2016 Posted 8 November 2016 I think Florida and New Hampshire will turn Red, with North Carolina probably going the other way. Either way Trump has to secure Florida and 2/3 other swing states, it's difficult to call how many Democrats are willing to go out and vote for Clinton, especially in swing states that have been targeted by Trump. Michigan is a real worry for the Clinton camp, Colorado could be a shocker too. Keeping North Carolina and securing Florida is a MUST for the Trump camp.
Benguin Posted 8 November 2016 Posted 8 November 2016 It's really frustrating how many idiots there are who love Clinton and won't hear anything against her because they hate Trump. They are both deplorable, hate them both!
Webbo Posted 8 November 2016 Posted 8 November 2016 I can honestly say I don't care who wins. Part of me wants Trump to win just to wind up the smug knowitalls who support Clinton but he's a vile man and doesn't deserve it any more than Hilary. I'm not worried either way, there are checks and balances to stop anything disastrous happening.

If he were to get in then there's no chance he'd last 4 years.
lgfualol Posted 8 November 2016 Posted 8 November 2016 Trump wont have a clue how to be a president. He will just fall out with literally everyone then get ousted after saying "what does this button do?" and sending a nuke flying the isle of wight. Would just be a joke, but at least it will make America the laughing stock instead of us.
