Sport should be something kids can watch and be inspired by on tv, then go out into the garden, street or field and recreate with their mates.

 

How many families have a nag in their garden and a load of painted fences?

 

It is a sport for the privileged, like F1,Motorsport and sailing, fair play to him for what he did but it's not something every child can do like football, rugby, running, swimming etc.

I'm not displeased Murray won it, he is a great champion, I liked the Kenny's as they've come from humble backgrounds and achieved greatness, Vardy too, not really bothered about privileged sports types who can afford to achieve their dreams without sacrificing as much but still they've worked just as hard, or at least their horse has!

Again I'm biased as I don't like tennis and I can't stand Andy Murray. Yes he's extremely talented and has had a great year (nothing new as he's one of the top tennis players in the world and has been for years) but Vardy has had an incredible year that no player from his background will ever replicate. Great that we won team of the year and that Claudio won manager of the year but Murray can go **** himself the miserable Scottish ****!

Finished 9th overall apparently. Felt he would be in top 2-3. Still, huge night for the team and claudio.

Not sure if our lads were surprised, nervous, hungover or just tired of all the adulation, but they looked like a right bunch of moody, miserable old sods. Not sure what I expected, but the odd smile between them wouldn't have cost much.

i dont think the club give them a bonus for winning sports team of the year.

Definitely deserved by Murray that one - giving it to Vards would have undermined the team aspect to our achievement and Murray winning the Olympics, Wimbledon, and becoming world number 1 is a huge individual achievement.

As a Leicester fan of course I was backing Vardy to win it. However, last year was truly a team effort and when I say team I mean the whole package. Be it, the players, manager, coaching staff, analysts, sports science guys and so on. 

 

Winning the the team of the year was truly deserved. The main award for Vardy may not have been as fitting as his achievement (though great as it was for him individually) in the grand scheme of things may not have been on par with the other individuals he was competing with. Don't get me wrong, individually, his story is great but finishing second top scorer in the premiership and getting in the England squad may not warrant the SPOTY award when looked at individually. Plus, I would prefer there to be no "I" in last year given what they did together. 

 

Great at night of awards for the team. I was truly choked up when they announced team of the year...never thought I'd see the day!

Andy Murray hasn't done anything out of the ordinary really.

 

Someone who's had all the backing since he was a youngster and they realised his potential, and he's won tennis tournaments and become world number one. Great achievement but it's not unheard of. 

 

It's a pretty boring story compared to Vardy's, as they all are tbf. 

 

That showjumper getting 3rd was a real joke though, and I can't help thinking olympians are favoured by the non-sport-following public who suddenly pay attention to the games every 4 years as if it's more important than other sporting occasions.

It's not really a sport though is it? Let alone an exciting one.

 

Only toffs can really compete in it so it's not going to capture the imagination of the public, that's besides the fact it's extremely boring.

 

People do like other sports but there's a good reason why showjumping isn't very popular and there's a good reason why football is by far the most popular.

Skelton deserved the recognition, a good history and story of his sporting achievements, injury and recovery.

I love horse riding, but to be honest I am no close follower of equestrian sports , but this man represented his

Chosen sport, to the highest level.

Murray, I dont or wont discredit his really brilliant achievements, but this year, imo others should of been recognised.

3 times in a row, after other brilliant successes, too much, but not Murrays fault.

Vardy great recognition, well done but even with my bias, not SPOTY in this period...

The LCFC team though.. fully deserving. Simply because of the suprise, coming from nowhere, with

its own sports unknowns. Plus over a 9 month season. 38 games Over  3-4 weather orientated Season

No other team, no matter the greatness within their achievement had to carry the stress of non expectation, 

for so long. To hold out against all challenges then win that title, no other team small or large came near.

What a 2 year period for city fans, Great escape...3 best Player awards , at various levels plus Kasper Gk recognition.

A Humble  coach/manager sweeping up and collecting best coach awards from all over the place in Europe.

A middle club, keeping a successfull period going since 2014, yes we have slumped, but I am sure the journey is far

from over.

 

The fans can be negative and pessimistic  moaners sometimes , but it keeps our feet on the ground .

We fans not has individuals, but as a mass, dont over exaggerate our bias, and for me it creates a great mixed

show of non controlled pro and contra opinions that makes this whole forum one of the best in the 2 top leagues.

So I give us the FFOTY, to our fans.  Fairest forum of the year award..

He broke the record in November last year.

 

Whilst the record still stands the record was last year. I remember being disappointed he wasn't nominated last year.

 

If he was it would have been more fresh in the memories and euphoria around it (For the none Leicester fans around the country), now it's past.

Completely agree. Why anyone thought Vardy had a chance of winning this year I have no idea. 

 

I too was surprised he wasn't nominated last year and believed he would been a good shout to claim the award last year after setting a new record.

 

This year however purely based on his own individual sporting achievement I don't think he has done anything of note to make himself stand out unlike many of the others than were nominated.

 

Andy Murray was pretty much guaranteed to scoop that award tonight after his achievements this year, and rightly so in my opinion.

The one advantage Murray has over other contestants, (except for F1- and look how successful they've been at SPOTY), IMO, is that his schedule means he keeps playing (and therefore in the public eye) until November.  Which means any success at that time - getting to world number 1, winning the davis cup etc., might have a bigger impact compared to others who's success came earlier on in the year.

 

I voted for Mo. Didn't count for much.

 

The problem with Vardy, IMO, is that half (well, most, given the record) of his success was LAST year, and for half of this year, he hasn't been firing, (along with the rest of the team).

 

This is the problem with popularity contests...

I suspect the back story to Nick Skelton's career would have won a few hearts and votes.

 

You can always pick holes in public votes like this..

 

Least somebody wins who is actually good at sport unlike the X-factor where is seems to be about popularity rather than who can sing!
