Fox92 Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 A few clubs helped United after Munich in terms of allowing United to borrow players.
Detroit Blues Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 It does seem to happen somewhat frequently. A few years back there was a plane carrying a KHL team that went down and killed the whole team. Also, around 40 years ago it happened to an american collegiate football team (Marshall). I dont know if there's a similar rule in the brazilian serie A, but in many leagues there provisions should such a disaster occur. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disaster_draft . The way it works is every club selects a certain number of players from it's roster, and the effected club gets to pick one player from each team to rebuild from.
Stadt Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Saw a video of them celebrating reaching the final and I cried my eyes out, I'm not normally an emotional person but this has really got to me because we all know how much a football club can mean to us. Rest in peace.
Samilktray Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Whats happened to the manager/coaching staff etc, were they on the plane? Haven't really heard them mentioned

Haven't really heard them mentioned pretty sure i read the manager had died. his son was part of the group who was meant to travel but didn't own a passport so couldn't get on the plane or something. nuts. hugely sad news all round. not sure how you'd ever truly get over this if you were a part of the club.
kingcarr21 Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Atletico Nacional have requested that the Copa Sudamerica be awarded to Chapecoense. A nice gesture. Ultimately its a game of football which isnt important in the grand scheme of things

But this is practically unprecidented in the modern game, so who knows? You'd assume that the club would be insured against a catastrophic event like this? Can we send them Schlupp?

possiblygeorge Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 They don't deserve that after what they've been through.... You did it. You managed to make me giggle in a tough thread to read
Captain... Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Horrible to happen and massive questions have to be asked on why a plane was flown to its limit fuel wise. It will take some serious goodwill from the footballing community for them to survive, the few remaining players will not be in a state to play for a while, if ever again, the club effectively have to start from scratch. The Munich air crash devastated that United team, but they were still one of the biggest clubs in Europe and had the support and infrastructure to survive, Chapecoense are not Man United, or even Leicester, they are from a city of 200,000 but they probably do not have much in the way of finances. They have only been in the Brazilian top flight 2 seasons, they are nowhere near established. I just can't see any club coming back from this, it is just brutal.
AKCJ Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Things like this put it all into perspective. R.I.P.
StanSP Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 As said above about the disaster draft thing, players will be loaned. But to also ask for club to be exempt from relegation is a class gesture too.

It's the sort of thing where you'd hope the bigger clubs would donate to help them survive.
Balj Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 An old old colleague of mine is associated with the Club - he didn't get go to the game due to ineptness and injury. Lucky bastard - phew. Total sympathy/respect for all on board and their friends and family.

For sure they will get support, but will it be enough to support a complete rebuild of a squad and back room staff and to deal with the psychological scars, the team will forever be known by that plane crash.
Adster Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Heard on Twitter that French Radio are reporting that PSG are going to Donate 40 Million Euro's. Hopefully some other top flight and Prem teams do so also. Tragic news for all involved. RIP.
CosbehFox Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Very sad, very sad. I suppose we know more than most what those players, fans, coaching staff and their entire city was feeling over the past week. And it's just gone. The mental impact on those people involved and then the city as a whole will feel incredibly low. Even upsetting the club will be known as those involved with the plane crash, not the time they ran through four divisions and got to a continental final. I don't know if anyone has seen but their twitter account actually tweeted us in March asking for a friendly in Brazil. Be great if as fans we could do some sort of display at Porto.
Collymore Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 I'm in total shock. I watched them a few times on late night streams and they were a good team. I hope our club can do something, donate some money or a loan a player or whatever. Completely devastating situation.
ScouseFox Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 grim that. footy is meant to be a release. take you from the real world back to being a kid, not the other way round.
SemperEadem Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Leicester had been tweeting the club when they congratulated us on our sucess and asked about a friendly game in Brazil.
jonthefox Posted 29 November 2016 Posted 29 November 2016 Maybe we could show our support?. maybe we could all wear a green scarf , all chip in for a surfer flag ?. Any other ideas?.
