Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri will assess Kasper Schmeichel’s fitness ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.

While it may be too soon for the stopper to make a return from his hand injury, Schmeichel is progressing well and could potentially feature as early as Tuesday against Bournemouth, according to Ranieri.

The Denmark international has not played for the Foxes since fracturing his hand against FC Copenhagen in early November.

The City boss said: “Kasper is getting better and maybe he is ready for Bournemouth. I think Saturday is too soon but let me speak to him on Friday.

“For the me the possibility [to play against Manchester City] is no, but Kasper is a fighter. He could be [ready].”

Meanwhile, Ranieri was pleased with Nampalys Mendy’s return to action against FC Porto and says the midfielder is available for selection on Saturday.

Ranieri added: “Of course now he’s made just a week or 10 days with us. I wanted to give to him just 60 minutes, not all the match.

“I couldn’t change any more and he played all the match, so he needs to recover a little more. He’s available, but not to play from the beginning.”

Finally, Danny Drinkwater is in contention to face Bournemouth on Tuesday evening as he serves the final game of his three-match suspension against Man City.

“He’s getting better,” Ranieri said of Drinkwater. “For him it was right for him to make a match after two suspended matches. Now Saturday, then he’s available for Bournemouth next.”

I don't expect us to win, but can we please just have a performance with energy and passion! Closing down and tight marking, with aggression and hunger all over the pitch.

i am so glad I will be in the air coming back from porto while this game is being played - after the result/performance here in porto I dont want to let the football get in the way of having a good time - just a few more drinks of port should wipe my memory of the last game - im sure it didnt happen it was just a nightmare wasnt it ?

Their penalty was a bit weak and we might have scored a couple, so I think we can agree the real score was 4-2

Fernandinho has been their rock in midfield.

Regardless of how limited our midfield will/can be, theirs might not hold up if Yaya/Fernando/Gundogan/whoever can't step up.

That's not a bad idea actually playing a rock in our midfield. Could probably pass and tackle better than anything we already have and show better movement off the ball as well.

Seriously we won't be able to cope with their movement and Gundogan looks a really good player.

I can handle a loss here as long as we put in a good performance and show some fight. If we end up losing 2-0 but actually try and lose because they have more quality, then that would be OK for me.

If we are 3 or 4 down at half time with another disgraceful display then the team can do one.

i'm going with OP we can easily smash out a draw in this

It's a shame the Fearless Foxes exhibition at the New Walk Museum has gone - Claudio and the players could do with another visit there before the game this weekend to remind them of what's it's like to FIGHT and be FEARLESS.

We've got all the fight and fearlessness of a ****ing damp sponge at the moment.

time for me to hang my boots up from this forum.  I have been a member since Jan 2006 and I can even recall my first post a thread re Dion Dublin, what a good buy he would be for us, he can play in defence or attack, how wrong was I he was sent off on his debut against West Ham.  Lol.

I fear now, the lunatics, however, have taken over the asylum so it is time for me to go.  For all the doom mongers, put me downers, moaners and whingers, on this forum I would like to sign out with the followings,

if if you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you but make allowances for all their doubting too,. If you can wait but not be tired by waiting.  Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, or being hated, don't give way to hating.  And yet look too good, nor talk to wise.  If you can dream and make dreams your master, if you can think and not make thoughts your aim, if you can meet with triumph and disaster, and treat those two imposters just the same, if you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken, twisted by knives, to trap a fool or watch the things you gave your life to broken, and stoop and build em up with worn out tools.  If you can make one heap of all your winnings and risk it on one turn or pitch or toss.,. If you can force your heart and sinew to serve your turn long after they are gone, and so hold on where there is nothing in you except the will which says, to them, hold on.

if you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue or walk with kings nor lose the common touch if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you if all men count with you, but none too much, if you can fill the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds worth of distant run, yours is the earth and everything's that's in it.  And which is more you'll be a man my son!

Leicester will play 4 4 fooking 2.
