Read the first few posts and genuinely went cold.

Weird thing but he's the one constant since I started supporting them.

Almost feel like he's a family friend.

My heart sank. Agreed with the last bit, never met him but feel I've known him for years. Brilliant bloke.

Its a shame it's taken this for people to speak out about how much of a lcfc legend he is (myself included, no criticism of anyone!) he really deserves to be treated as the great ambassador he is.

You might all think you're leicesters biggest fan (take that the right way!) but I don't think there's anyone out there that loves our fantastic club more than Birch.

Listening to the radio earlier to a Watford fan talking about how Taylor was such a legend for them and was genuinely upset at his death got me thinking that that's how we would react when the Birch passes away. Now a few hours later he is in hospital I'm sure he will pull through the absolute trooper. Every Leicester Fan will be wishing him a speedy recovery

Club Statement:

Leicester City Ambassador Alan Birchenall has been admitted to hospital after he was taken ill on Thursday evening.

Alan was transferred to Glenfield Hospital in Leicester after falling ill while representing the Club at the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards at King Power Stadium.

The Club will provide an update on Alan’s condition on Friday once the results of overnight tests have provided an accurate diagnosis.

Never met him and don't know a lot about him like you lot do, read about him and listened to him on radio and understand he is 'Mr Leicester City'.

My biggest memory of him is when he walked out our Premiere League trophy with his face beaming and eyes shining like stars wearing the biggest grin I've ever seen.

We need him around far, far longer.

Get well soon 'Birch'.

Dear Lord. I was just talking about him to my Dad yesterday as he was recounting a story about a friend who met Birch during a recent charity event and just what a simply wonderful, salt of the earth person he is - Reminisced, posed for photos with my dad's mate, etc...

Get well soon Birch. Hope you get the round the clock care you need.

As a post script, I'm glad the awards ceremony was called off after he was taken ill, I guess it's the least they could do..

Only finished listening to the Boot Room podcast a couple of hours ago and then the club tweeted almost immediately after that he'd been taken to hospital. Hope he gets well soon, he really is Mr Leicester City and has been perhaps the one consistent thing at the club in the 20 odd years I've supported it. And as ever he was on top form on the boot room tonight - said doobries about 20 times as usual and had a lot of memories about this great club.

get well soon Birch.

From listening to the birch on the radio, he seems like such a sweet man. I loved listening to how proud he was of the team last year, and how proud he was to present the team the trophy.

I hope he recovers quickly and can enjoy the continued success of the club he loves so much.
