the club can no longer justify him being there surely. he has presided over the worst recruitment policy (if that's what you can call it).bringing in unproven players from abroad that have failed in the most part to deliver

Jon Rudkin doesn't have the experience or pedigree for a modern DoF role. He has only ever worked within an academy, which let's be honest, has always underperformed.

Look at Les Reed at Southampton. A man that has experienced a plethora of jobs at a high level throughout his career. A man with a common sense, measured, long-term way of thinking and with a clear vision about how the football operations at a club should be run. A man who has created a setup at Southampton that gives the club an identity, stability and success. A man who ensures no player is bigger than the club and replaces any want-a-way players quickly and effectively. A man who admits that he has a list of potential replacement managers updated at all times, just in case.

Compare that to Mr Rudkin. A man who hasn't addressed a failing academy. A man whom doesn't fill gaping holes in the squad during transfer windows (Striker last January, Kante replacement in the summer and CB this window). A man who seems to be universally disliked. A man with seemingly no clear long-term plan, proven by the scattergun approach to transfers. But most worryingly for me, a man whom, when Pearson was sacked, did not have a list of replacements lined up and only considered Ranieri after he declared his interest in the job.

Incredibly, we had a perfect Les Reed-esque person at the club for years and yet we let him leave for Everton. Walsh said he left because it was a promotion. The fact we didn't promote him within our structure and instead stuck with the incompetence of Rudkin is astounding and possibly the most damaging decision the club has made for years.

Nail on the head here. Walsh's thorough recruitment came from an incredibly sound understanding of the modern game, alongside our needs as a club looking to move forward. The sad fact is that money talks; would any of us mind a longer commute if it means a couple of extra million quid in the bank every year? He would have been worth every penny.

You're right we did have such a man at the Club but it wasn't Walsh it was Pearson. Pearson knows exactly how to set up a club for success, That was his biggest asset. He's not the best Coach as he doesn't see things early enough. But he's unlikely to come back so no point in discussing him. Walsh has proven to be a top Scout at all levels whether shopping in Lidl or Harrods.

When the position became available he should have been promoted to DIR instead of Rudkin. That was a huge mistake by the Club and the reason I believe he left.

Now I know we had a 5 year plan to get to the top and the club decided to continue along that line. However last years league win upset those plans and we had a real chance of cementing our position in the top top with a few additions to the squad. that alone would have been a massive step up and one I'm sure most fans would have been happy with while we consolidate and maybe challenge for a few Cups.

The signings have been poor for what we required and I just find it hard to believe that CR is in any way happy. His statements are contradictory to say the least. Either way he's failing us. If he doesn't choose the players then he should say he cannot be expected to keep us up with the signings we've made, If h'e only the Coach then he's not getting the best from the squad by playing players out of position and not seeing the gaping hole in Midfield. In short he's Bullshitting and not convincing anyone. Someone from the club needs to come out and say who selects the players and who negotiates the Contracts. I've said it many times before the most important person at any Club is the right Manager and I don't care what he cost's as he'll always prove cheap at twice the price.

All in all it's a total mess now and not what I expected from this season. A little quality fine tuning was all that was needed.

Surely a deal with Walsh like the one Holloway had at Blackpool would have made sense a percentage of the increase in players signed by him would have been worth every penny.

Bonus for appearances by players he signed. Bonus if a signing scored x amount of goals or clean sheets. Find it hard to believe we couldn't have just made a deal with him that could have kept hold of him.

Ironically, Pearson would actually be a good candidate for a DoF, not that he would want it, but he does tick a lot of the boxes.

Those types of conditions are usually in place in most scouting contracts and seems only fair.

Walsh was a Pearson appointment and should have been promoted to DOF instead of Rudkin . He had the experience and the knowledge and just as important the contacts around the world.

On the other hand Rudkin probably wanted him out and got his way.

The person most likely responsible for all of this is Susan Whelan after all she's the Chief Executive but sadly she's not a Football person and Rudkin probably convinced her he knew what he was talking about.

I've often wondered if someone wanted Walsh gone as he was deemed to have too much say/clout (well deserved and earned that it was) Should definitely have done everything we could to keep him.

Perhaps I'm not looking into this in too much detail but transfer dealings have been poor since Walsh has left with parties even coming out saying it was hard to do business.

I think this window is the final nail in the coffin for Rudkin. Don't want to speak badly of Wague but it screams of a panic loan as much as they want to say we've been scouting him for a long time... he was not a starter for his previous club with a few loans not emerging to much... but 11 hours to handle negotiations on a panic loan, what was he thinking??

I'm not expecting us to sign Messi but all I see is poor management, previously we've had all our business done at the beginning of a window but we finish transfer deadline day with little expectations of incomings. This window it's all been left to last minute with nothing coming to fruition, I'm putting the blame squarely at his feet!

Rudkin has his feet well and truly under the table. Vichai and Top haven't really any footballing stature and have been bowled over by Rudkin for some reason. I've no faith they will act quick enough with Ranieri, I've even less faith they'd be wise enough to dispose of Rudkin too and even less faith of us having a plan for replacing Ranieri with someone better. We'd have to hope quality candidates applied like Claudio did.

Be be thankful for what happened last season, cherish it and don't let what's coming hurt you too much. It might sound drastic but I think this is the start of our return to the chaos of 2002-2008.

It's frustrating because the owners have done some very good things in their time here. For instance, it's admirable that we've had two managers in the same time that Crystal Palace have had six. They wrote off a large amount of debt and have invested in the club. We've also grown commercially. What they need is an experienced football man advising them on what's needed on the pitch.

Agreed. But also, they are very successful businessmen who undoubtedly will be looking to address the current flaws in their investment. We're fortunate enough to have owners who attend a lot of games, so aren't disconnected with what's happening on the pitch. Like the vast majority of us who watch, they will also be very unsatisfied with our signings and demise in the league. They had the balls to get rid of Pearson (who was incredibly popular at the time) when he didn't promote the club in the way they wanted. I am confident that they will attribute a large portion of the blame to Rudkin and his clique, so here's hoping our summer recruitment will be taken by someone far more qualified to do so, alongside a manager with a few fresh ideas on how to progress us.

Looks like the January window will take us down, get Paul Mitchell in from spurs

Get Steve Walsh back and make him DoF. From what I understand things are not all rosey for him at Everton..

Fear that it's too late to sack Rudkin or Ranieri... dismissal now would bury us. We now just have to ride this storm out and hope things can be turned around.

What I find weird is that after we signed Ndidi Ranieri said he had final say on transfers.

Then this week he came out and said he has nothing to do with them and he's just a head coach.

i thought exactly the same - It's as clear as mud :(

I bet he waltzed into his office this morning feeling all pleased with himself over a successful transfer window. He shuffles some paper about for an hour before opening his TMNT lunchbox, to find a nice, neatly cut billy-bear meat sandwich and a note from his wife that reads:

"We're through, you're a ****ing embarrassment - I hope you choke on your sandwich you cvnt."

Interesting if disturbing comments. Out of interest do you have any inside knowledge, or are these simply your considered views? It really saddens me to think that the club has changed trajectory so swiftly.

He's been over promoted with no experience or qualifications and he's out of his depth.

He should have got the players we need signed.

BUT he's not responsible for the players, who won the league last season, now playing without

commitment or fight, in serious relegation trouble.

We're playing the worst football of any team in the league, and it's down to the players!!

Done some incredibly stupid things as you allude to on the football side.

1. Appointed Sven

2. Asked mandaric to appoint Sousa

3. Allowed Walsh to leave and didn't make him feel valued or wanted

4. Appointed Terry Robinson

5. Got involved with Dave Richards

6. Dismantled the youth academy

7. Ran around with the trophy as if they'd won it (I'm joking)

8. Organised the worst pre season in living memory as a vanity project

yes they've done some good stuff but 6 fairly major mistakes there.

I'm sure he won't reveal how he knows but I can vouch for this too

Fair enough. Thing is if we do go down we need to act very quickly in May rather than feeling sorry for ourselves. From what you guys are saying that's unlikely.

usual FT over reaction. No one knows who's fault this is. We have no idea what budget we had. And we have no idea what prices were being quoted for our targets.

But hey let's hang some fecker for it. What is this modern day KKK ?

Let's all march on the club with our city beanie hats pulled down with eye slits in.

Then hang the fecker from a lamp post.

Former double glazing salesman that played a bit of non league football. Over promoted within the academy and now massively over promoted again.
