We could do a lot worse than our very own Shakey (Nigel Pearson)..

"???y  army, CRAIG SHAKESPEARE"

It was literally how NP would play. The 14/15 season played like it just so unlucky. 15/16 season played the same and won the league.

It was great to see the desire back in the team. A team with a plan and togetherness*.

I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be given it til the end of the season.

Respect that man! Win at hull. He's the manager!

Absolutely.

Tonight was always going to be a reaction. Let's see how we do at the weekend before getting carried away.

Totally agree.

This is in no way a criticism of Shakey, he's by all accounts a brilliant assistant manager and the players clearly love him but therein lies the problem I think. A number 2 often has the luxury of being the good cop and I've heard a lot about how good he is at raising spirits which IMHO is an approach that usually works brilliantly in the short term but not so much in the longer term. I guess that's why so many assistants who do go on to be managers tend to do really well at first before fizzing out quite quickly.

Maybe I'm doing Shakey a massive disservice and he's more than capable of making the move up but there's no doubt he'd be in a minority that can and you can't really tell after 90 minutes in charge.

Well it was said prior to this game that 4 pts from Liverpool and Hull would get him the job, so a draw vs Hull would do it. Not sure if he'd be offered it till end of season or more long term though?

Why rush?

Good tonight but so was Man City.......one game only!

i would leave it at least 2-3 games before definitively giving him any deal to the end of the season......

The real test will be how the team responds after conceding first (which didn't happen today). If they fall behind and don't withdraw into a shell like they have during all preceding games, then Shakespeare should get the job.

Watching his interview after the match, he said he had been an assistant manager for so many years. He also said that he wants the job. I get the feeling that if City bring in another manager, he will get a managers job with another club in the not too distant future.

Give him the job until the end of the season if we beat hull.

One of the best managers of all time. If we're serious about competing in the CL, hire Van Gaal.

Let's concentrate on competing in the PL first!

If we beat Hull I'd definitely give it him til the end of the season.

If we can get someone better in if we stay up then we should. Someone progressive, modern, fairly young. A Kovac, Bronckhorst, Wagner, whoever.

But for now, nobody better than Shakespeare is going to come in to a relegation scrap in March.

Lets not be reactionary, give him another 3 games. Until then, I'd still like to see Van Gaal at Leicester.

Serving pies?

Another stupid thread....remember when we beat Man City and everyone thought we were Barcelona.....De Ja Vu, he's had one game. You will be calling for his head if we loose to Hull on saturday.

I don't quite get those saying give it to him to the end of the season then get a new man in the summer. Surely if he does well (say gets us to mid table and a good european performance) then why wouldn't he get the job full time? Just because he has never been a manager doesn't mean he couldn't be a good one for us on a long term basis. Has learned his trade from Nige & Claudio 2 pretty successful blokes for us. I'm sure if Shakey steadies the ship then the managers who didn't fancy it now (i.e Mancini etc) would happily come when the hard work is done.

Give Shakey the Hull game, if we win the job should be his til the summer, if we end the season well it should be his permanently.

Shakespeare as manager and bring Pearson in as DoF.

Ideal scenario; Pearson won't be swearing at the cameras but will be doing all of his excellent work behind the scenes in setting up how a football club should run.
