DJ Barry Hammond Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 There is a danger in appointing him... and that is we could then subsequently lose him, especially if he's appointed interim and then didn't get the job full time at the start of next season.

Treacle Fox Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 Give Shakey the job. He can be Leicester's Bob Paisley.

I think the owners can be patient looking for someone, and if someone does come in before the season is over, make sure the know that Shakey is staying as assistant manager. why not?
Guest ttfn Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 The recent history of assistants becoming managers is not good. We should be wary of making any long-term decisions based on what Shakespeare does for this interim period, whether positive or negative.
foxy boxing Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 everyone loves Shakey and it was a great result against Liverpool but we need to be rational in who we appoint as the next manager and the decision needs to be devoid of sentiment!.yes the players gave a good reaction but would they have done that anyway!. we can't just appoint someone the players all like because they will be in their comfort zone too much and the players need to be kept motivated and not just cruise along, they need pushing to their maximum potential and if Shakey can do that then fine but if not!
yorkie1999 Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 Why bother with a manager, why not just have shakey as head coach, bit like tony pulis at wba
Guest Bob Hazels shorts Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 If Shakey becomes manager we lose Shakey the coach
Domsdad Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 I see Motherwell have just sacked Mark McGhee.....

HybridFox Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 Albrighton put in a solid performance last night and justified his starting berth. Many had obviously expected Gray pre match. But reckon Shakey deliberately didn't make wholesale changes to a Ranieri-esque XI just to prove to everyone that the players CAN do it and it was tactical flaws letting them down?
brucey Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 Imagine if we do get past Sevilla (looking much more possible now) while under Shakey? We've spent the last 2 years being a massive troll to world football, and this really will cap it off... an interim manager who's only ever managed 3 league games in his career, taking us to the QFs of the CL (and maybe beyond)
worthosoriginals Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 There's a risk with whoever comes in. He gets my vote. shakespeare with Richard 3 as his assistant, Could be a great union.
nnfox Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 Shakey is vital to the club. I don't want him as manager because he'll get the sack and we'll lose him. Would rather keep him as assistant, away from the limelight and away from the full blown pressure. Caretaker until the end of the season, but not beyond.
Thracian Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 After tonight's display and the manner of it, I'd say Shakespeare should be given the reins until the end of the season with the promise that, if he keeps us up, he'll get first option to try to evolve what is as much his team as anyone's into the continuous trophy challengers it could be. For me we've wasted much of this season and squandered far too much money on people who aren't worthy of joining a pretty elite bunch when it comes to achievement. Shakespeare seems to have a blend of qualities that might well set him apart as a manager. He's recognised as a capable coach. He's humble enough to guage opinion. He has good people skills. And he seems to have the realistic attitudes on which the foundations of success can be built. I'm not saying he's a managerial superstar in the making - only time can tell us that. But I'd like to see him get the chance. It wasn't just the result I liked tonight. It was the goals we scored to get it, the balance of skills, and the collective effort we put in.
Chico1958 Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 Mike Phelan, John Carver, are the first two coaches who spring to mind. Fill the spaces in for your selves
Kaewbudda Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 Great result yesterday. Let's see how it goes on Saturday and take it from there.
midland_red Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 let's see what happens after Dull. A win then and I would definitely give him the job until the end of the season. Then, depending on where we are, the owners will have time to think without being rushed. I thought he was impressive last night - especially the proactive sub. But he did give the impression that he knows someone has already been chosen.

Suspect that we will lose him if we don't appoint him. Feel he's really enjoyed the occasion and has a taste for the big seat now. If not with us, then someone. Probably very soon. As stated, he is probably the guy we want to keep us up. Offer him the season and see what happens?
maddog Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 My only concern with Shakey is the players will be too friendly with him and after the novelty wears off will become complacent. Then the players will start asking questions: why did we get this inexperienced man the job? We are losing he won't get us out of it will he? Shakey is like a best friend to the players, a pal, a mate. I imagine Pearson was like that too and Ranieri was much more distant which they didn't like. That said I would be fine for Shakey to be given the job until the end of the season as interim then the right experienced manager selected in the summer to freshen it up again.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 Shakespeare should atleast get the job until the end of the season, and maybe even beyond if he does well & keeps us up. The players know him, respect him and on last night's showing they are going to play for him, the latter I expected to be the case. Shakespeare knows the players really well, he has worked with some of them for years and he knows how to get the best out of the squad. In my opinion, it is a little late in the season to appoint a manager now, a manager needs time to get to grips with the squad and how he wants them to play. With Shakespeare, there's no settling in period which is highly important right now given the situation we're in.
